“Thus begins Cotillion, arguably the funniest, most charming of Georgette Heyer’s many delightful Regency romances.”

This book of Heyer’s includes a most remarkable hero; an amiable, somewhat vacuous young man named Freddy, who ends up protecting and assisting the heroine, a poor orphan named Kitty Charing. Freddy is absolutely charming as he initially resists being drawn into Kitty’s schemes, only to realize that she is the love of his life. Kitty, on the …
Georgette Heyer is still state-of-the-art for period romances. IN fact, she invented the subgenre of Regency romances. She was a scholar of the Regency and her re-creation of period dialog is spot-on. However, the charm of her books lies in the combination of warn, relatable characters and humor. While her characters do what people of the Regency …
Very witty, the right man gets the maiden
Beautiful story, very well written
Another wonderful Heyer where it all comes together in the most amusing way!
This is a re-read and to be honest I’m not sure how many times I’ve read it. Let’s just say its probably close to five times. I fell in love with the author’s books and Cotillion is one of the reasons.
It has many facets to it and a host of colorful characters and situations. It’s cute, sweet, clever, and even a little suspenseful. It is also …
One of the most entertaining of Heyer’s Regencies, she managed to create two funny and engaging characters with a sweet love story.
This was a delightful and witty listen. The characters are engaging and enjoyable. Kitty is put into an impossible situation where she must choose from a group of suitors. She has had a crush on Jack who has a devil-may-care attitude and in coerces Freddy into a trip to London under the pretense of a sham engagement all to get back at Jack. The …
One of my all-time favorite books and favorite author! I am NOT a fan of romance as a book genre whatsoever, and it’s somewhat of an injustice to Georgette Heyer to classify her as a Regency romance author, though she had invented the genre. Her books are so much more than what now passes for a Regency romance. Many of her books are unqualified …
LOVE the Georgette Heyer Regency era books!
“Cotillion” is one of the best of these. A girl from a poor family…..(I don’t want to give away the plot!)…..highly enjoyable read!
She INVENTED the genre, which is now so overused, but she was first….she studied the diaries and old letters and whatever else she could find to learn how the …
I picked up Cotillion from a bargain bin in a second hand book shop in Stirling, Scotland in 1984 because I didn’t know what a cotillion was. That book got me hooked on Georgette Heyer’s regency romance. She’s totally brilliant and if you’ve not read her yet, I want you to share it with me. You won’t regret it!
