Sheriff Tully Barrett never knew trouble had such a pretty face.Brianna Dumont never knew the law could be so handsome and hardheaded. Pampered and privileged, Brianna Dumont escapes the life she’s always known in an effort to clear her father’s good name. She arrives in Baker City, Oregon, intent on selling her father’s shares in a mine. Only the mine is a bust, her father’s partner is a … bust, her father’s partner is a crusty ol’ coot who hates women, and the sheriff in town is determined to keep her behind bars.
With good friends around him, a small ranch of his own, and a fulfilling job as sheriff, Tully Barrett loves his life. Then an exasperating woman shows up, making demands and driving him crazy. No matter how hard he tries to ignore her brains and beauty, she works her way under his skin.
Corsets and Cuffs captures the fun-loving banter of two strong-willed characters determined not to fall in love in this sweet historical romance.

This is an opposites attract sweet romance with a tiny bit of danger set in 1891. Tully is the sheriff in Baker City. Brianna travels to Baker City to sell her fathers holdings in a local gold mine. She needs the money due to the recent murder of her father. But Brianna is also hiding things and trouble eventually follows her to Baker City. Brianna and Tully butt heads from the moment they meet. Brianna is prim, proper and a bit haughty. Tully is gruff and rude towards her. The two engage in insults, teasing and goading that slowly turns into deeper feelings. I did not like Tully or Brianna’s behavior toward each other in the beginning of the book because while their interactions were supposed to be lighthearted, they came across as mean and rude to me. Enemies to lovers is always a fine line to walk, showing animosity between the characters without tipping into meanness. I thought this story went a bit over the edge toward mean. But as the story progressed, Tully and Brianna both became softer and much more likable. Once the insults were softened and/or stopped, I really enjoyed watching Tully and Brianna’s personalities blossom together while they made their inevitable journey to their HEA. I will definitely keep reading in this series.
A wonderful series of stories in Baker City full of endearing characters. This story, third in the series, can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the entire series. The characters are delightful and the storyline flows smoothly throughout vivid scenic descriptions. The well written story and unique characters had me laughing out loud at times. A clean western romance that I highly recommend.
Yet another fantastic book by Shanna Hatfield!
As usual, Shanna’s book is full of men who love their women with such passion yet adore and respect them at the same time and women who love their men and respect them just as much in return.
I absolutely loved the fiery chemistry and teasing banter between Tully and Brianna. It was great fun watching the twists and turns in their relationship as they grew to love one another. Tully is wonderfully outrageous in the comments he makes to rile Brianna just so he can see her feisty response. While he may, at first, come across as gruff and cavedwellerish, Tully is really a gentle, tenderhearted man when and where it truly counts.
I have to be honest and say that Brianna was a little hard to like at first. She behaved quite pompously and just as rudely as she claimed Tully did. She came across as a snooty, high and mighty know it all at the beginning. None of those things endeared her to me. BUT as I got to know Brianna and her story I began to understand how she could have reacted so outrageously considering what she was dealing with at the time (unbeknownst to me). It was a pleasure to see her soften and loosen up from her prim and proper ways as the novel progressed, and by the end, I loved her character just as much as I loved Maggie and Jemma in the first two books in this series.
In addition to wonderful characters, the novel contained just the right amount of mystery and intrigue. I enjoyed trying to figure out what exactly was going on as I moved through the story. More than once, I was surprised by the turn of events.
Corsets and Cuffs is filled with sweet, tender, heart-melting scenes mixed with just the right amount of fiery, flirtatious banter. They’re so perfectly written, you’ll find yourself weak in the knees and feeling like you just might swoon! Shanna weaves a wonderful story with no part left undone-nothing ever feels rushed or incomplete. Her witty, well-thought out writing will keep you enthralled and enchanted all the way through to the end where you’ll be spectacularly satisfied by the conclusion while still anxiously waiting for her next work of art to be crafted and available for you to read.
**I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Oh my, Shanna Hatfield has really written a fantastic story in Tully’s and Brianna’s story. Of course all her books have been fantastic and I have loved every one of them. Baker City Brides is one of the best series I have read. The first two were fantastic, but this one may be my favorite of the three so far.
Imagine a well loved sheriff who is kind and gentle and loved by most and then a well refined eastern woman who has to escape to Baker City who is feisty, intelligent and who can rile the sheriff like no one else and you have a story of awesome characters, both with complex characteristics who are like water and fire, there is no way they can mix.
They both can deal out the best and the sheriff who loves to tease his friends and pull pranks, our refined lady gets so riled and he can get so angry with her that his deputies just stare at him like he is someone totally different.
So how can these two who are so different ever see what is truly about the other and end up in love???? That is question and why you need to read this book. It will have you laughing, putting your hand to your mouth with an “O” hidden, you see unbelievable behavior in the fine sheriff who his friends think he has lost this mine, the whit, the fun, the mysterious reasons Brianna came to Baker City, theft of her bag which holds many of the secrets why she is there and more, Tully with the things he says to Brianna and why she slaps him as he is riling her so badly and his uncouth behavior. There is just so much going on that you can’t to finish it so you just can’t put it down.
This is a highly recommended book and if you want the back stories and more fun adventure start with Crumpets and Cowpies. That title alone made me buy that book, the first of Shanna Hatfield’s stories I had read and loved it so much I just couldn’t stop laughing or put it down
