I read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This story is so much more than just a great read. A wild mix of romance, humor, mystery, falling in love and family. This is a story of social and economic separation and the discord between the fog lands and the downtowners. The strife and acrimony each side feels toward each other is strong and long lasting. This was more than what I was expecting but so well worth the read.
This book is what dark fairytales are made of!! OMG and with a massive dash of hot steamy sex…. Equals a book you can’t put down!! As always, Jennifer has an amazing ability to create strong heroines, something I absolutely ADORE about her books. As a woman, I can’t help but LOVE strong female characters which make them so easy to develop an emotional attachment to…. And once I’m invested in a book emotionally, it becomes a masterpiece in my mind. Phee’s character in this book is by far one of my favorite that Jennifer has created because she’s so relatable. It’s so easy to empathize and relate to her feelings, which of course, makes the book all that more intense! The other thing I loved about this book is that it had dystopian feel to it. I’m a sucker for books that take place in dystopian societies, so pair that with the dark Cinderella feeling twisted story, and beyond hot and steamy sex… makes this the perfect book to snuggle up with. Just don’t start reading it late at night… you might find yourself late to wake the next morning because you couldn’t put it down the night before.
Oh my! This story was not what I expected. I was expecting your normal erotic novel, but no this was so much more. It was an intense and thrilling read. It was an action packed drama filled with danger and corruption.
The two main characters in this book, Bryant and Phee have some real intense chemistry. Their love story was definitely not all roses and sweet nothings. Their love is put to some serious tests and yet they still stay strong. Their sex life is dark and intense. They truly crave each other’s touch, in all forms.
This story line was unique and different. I really enjoyed it. It had the same feel as the Hunger Games. In Lakehurst The downtowners were the “Capital” and the south of downtown called the Fog is like being a “District “. The two don’t mix and certainly don’t date. The COF rule and they slowly kill off the Fog citizens, as they are poor and are a burden. The COF is corrupt and there are some sick men that run it. Taking what they please and not caring who they destroy or kill in the process.
The story is about a forbidden love and the path to make Lakehurst a better place for all. This book is not for the weak minded or anyone who is squeamish. There are some dark scenes. So if sadism or rape bother you then this book is not for you.
I can’t stand it! This is sooo good! It has everything I want in a reading experience…an alternative world, a beautiful couple, hot BDSM elements, evil dudes, good guys, awesome action and adventure, and a spectacular plot. I was twitching in my seat and panting and engrossed to the exclusion of all else. It starts with terrific world building in this dystopian-like story with the sun versus the fog. The strife between the elite that can see the sun and the lowly fog people and the chasm between the two foster rebellion in this exciting, twisted, dark tale. Our heroine, Phee, is from the fog and a dreamer of fantasies while our hero, Bryant, is a sun-born Alpha turned rebel. These two are not supposed to mix but it’s insta-lust/love and nothing can stop them. They are so hot together. The author takes us on a fantastic thrill ride with twists and turns and OMG moments that will leave you breathless. And that doesn’t even include the sizzle between our lovers. This is five stars all the way.
This was such a good book to read hy Jennifer. This book had twist and turns and some back stabbing suspense if it was me in this book I wouldn’t have known who I could trust they all had hidden agendas. I didn’t want to put it down it just sucked me in from the start until I reached the end. From what I understand this is a rerelease with a new name and cover I don’t know what all she changed inside this book, but damn was this book good and love the cover and the name is perfect. I would recommend getting this book. So good so good.
This is my unbiased opinion and my review.
If you like dystopian, good vs evil love stories with a touch of BDSM then this book is for you. Even if you don’t like dystopian don’t let that put you off. I am not a fan but I did enjoy this book. There are some gruesome parts and I am not sure the scene after Phee was kidnapped added anything but apart from that really enjoyed the book. Regan and Easton were great sidekicks and Parks was the solid leader and all of them played their role. The chemistry between Phee and Bryant was electric and amazing and the epilogue was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes.
This is one of those books I always meant to read, so finally got the time, and it was a page turning dynamo of a story! Wow! Phee is engaging in all the best ways – strong, determined but still held onto that edge of hopes and dreams which I enjoyed immensely. It somehow made her more relatable in ways. Bryant was not what one might expect from his upbringing and appearance, and really the two of them together was explosive. Part of what makes this story sing though, is the world built around them. It feels like our world in ways, but it’s not so it’s very easy to imagine and still feel original in it’s own regard. I am a huge fan of dystopian fiction so was eager to try this story out and I was not disappointed. If you’re a fan of dystopian worlds, and enjoy steamy erotic parts as well, then this will definitely be your cup of tea!
This book started out as a romance and became so much more. The characters are well written, especially the female lead. I really enjoyed this book.
I absolutely loved this story. Phee and Bryant come from two different worlds, but discover they have a similar agenda. Phee is a strong heroine who you can’t help but love. Bryant is a hero who will test you at first, but eventually gains your trust. Action, mystery, love, and kink; what else could you need?
First, I read this book when it came out in JULY 2018 and it was so good I put it on my minuscule 2nd reads list (6 books). I purchased this copy while on sale for .99 -thanks! It is worth more than .99. As I read it again, I began to think this could be a metaphor for the last few months in America bit it isnt unless the talented Ms. Bene is clairvoyant. Enough on that this was insanely good just as the title describes it has corruption, murders and mass murder, poor destitution, uprising all the markings for an incredible story. Opps, don’t let me forget the tantalizing and titillating sex scenes that will blow your mind. By the end, I had shed tears for the culmination of an intense love story stacked against societal constraints of the haves and have nots remember I said metaphor and clairvoyant since it was released in 2018. Absolutely, mind boggling, well written and a sexy dominant leading man *swoon*
I read this book when it was titled Of Fog and Fire and it is sooo much better in this version. I liked the the original version but love the rewrite! Jennifer Bene has a way of stringing words together to weave a story that is not only good, but will melt your panties, Very imaginative and hot!
This book had me all over the place. In a good way. There was action and danger. Oh, it was hot also! Phee and Bryant are not your likely couple. From two different sides of the track. But through fate they found each other. It’s emotionally charged. It took me on their journey through these two peoples lives. I loved the story! Towards the end have tissue for sure. In the conclusion, Phee and Bryant get their HEA despite all that they had to endure to get there.
Oh man, I picked the worst possible time to read this story. I should have waited until winter and settled down in the snow somewhere because this story was meltingly hot and now I’m all hot and bothered and it’s too damn hot out to cool off. Phee and Bryant are an amazing couple and you will find yourself unable to put it down as you become desperate to find out the outcome.
Loves: How they met. I really do love a sassy female lead. How well Bryant and Phee complemented each other. The secondary characters were wonderful. The suspense. The drama. The fog. Their oh-so-smexy scenes together that practically melted my Kindle. All right. Fine. All of it. I LOVED all of it. Happy? I am.
4.4 stars
This book was not at all what I had expected. I was thinking a darker shade of 50. I was wrong. It was entirely different future. It was intriguing. I enjoyed Bryant and Phee. There were parts of the story that seemed to drag on but not enough for me to not like this story.
This was a very enjoyable book, full of action, suspense and intrigue. It’s was steamy AF and the D/s relationship was realistic and titillating. The dystopian world building was very well done and all the characters were very well developed. Definitely recommend. ***Trigger warning for kidnapping and non con.
Loved this beautifully twisted dark romance.
Ophelia (Phee) is a waitress in downtown, but she lives in the fog. She dreams of living where she can see the sky all the time, only she believes no downtowner would ever date a girl from the fog. Enter Bryant, he is his uncle’s right hand man and his uncle is very high up in the government that oversees how things are run downtown and in the fog. Phee’s sassy mouth catches Bryant’s attention and he asks her on a date. This is a wonderful story and has some twists and dark themes, but I absolutely loved it. Definitely recommend this book as a must read!
Corrupt Desires was a fascinating read that I once I started I couldn’t put it down. I loved the dystopian feeling of the book though I must admit to being a tad bit confused at first. Once I worked it all out I was hooked and swept away by Phee and Bryant’s story. I loved Phee’s sassy and somewhat smart-mouthed character and was just as intrigued by her as Bryant was. There was so much more than meets the eye to Bryant and I enjoyed seeing his layers slowly revealed. Full of intrigue, suspense and twists and turns I didn’t quite expect I was kept on the edge of my seat through their story. Phee and Bryant’s forbidden love and their journey together is one that makes for a perfect afternoon read.
This book was a nonstop read that will keep you on the edge. This book was very hard to put down. This book is a fast pace read that is full of sexy scenes and amazing twists and turns throughout the story
received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
Phee knows that girls like her don’t get the fairytale. Falling for a man like Bryant Holbrook is just begging for heartbreak. Rich boys don’t look twice at waitresses from the fog, at least not until now. One smart-mouthed taunt and his turquoise eyes are all over her. That cocky, bad boy grin tempting her with the impossible. It should have stayed a one night stand. Now it’s too late. Phee is pulled into a world of danger and corruption where Bryant must put everything at risk to keep her safe, or risk losing her too keep his father’s dream alive.
I have to say the first part of this book I was confused. Phee is such a dreamer and I had a hard time deciding which was fantasy in her head and which was the real world. Well apparently the fog is the real world. I don’t understand what type of world it is but if you live in the fog your basically what is a poor person I think. Bryant lives uptown and is apparently part or to be part of the government that rules in this book. I don’t really know I just know that they fit good together and this book has suspense and some really tense moments. It also has a BDSM factor. It’s not a bad book it just wasn’t….Oh I don’t know something was jut missing for me. Maybe I needed more explanation about the world they were living in. Was it just the way the world was or was this book a dystopian book?? I think I needed more about the surroundings and how things worked and I would have liked it better.
Whenever I read Jennifer Bene’s books I can’t help get swept up in her stories and the absolute alpha hot men and the sassy women that bring them to their knees. This story wasn’t the usual dark flavor Bene writes with but it was just as delicious. I thought Phee and Bryant were sexy and so swoony.
I loved that story had a touch of a dystopian feel. I loved learning about the classes of people and the Fog. I was hooked and compelled from the very first page. Phee was my favorite part of this story as she was outspoken and blunt and such a strong heroine. I also love that this story had the trademark sexy and steamy that this author is known for.
All in all, this was fantastic and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future! Bravo! 4 Stars! ~Ratula
