Phee knows that girls like her don’t get the fairytale…
It should have stayed a one-night stand.
Now, it’s too late.
Phee is pulled into a world of danger and corruption where Bryant must put everything at risk to keep her safe, or risk losing her to keep his father’s dream alive.

This book was a mixture of fantasy and reality, with a different government in place. Phee was raised in a dreamlike fantasy world, a place where she could believe she was a golden warrior princess, until that dream world was stripped from her. Living in an ordinary reality was hard for someone like Phee. I loved her character – whimsical and impulsive, almost to a fault, yet feisty and stronger than anyone thought. And then she met Bryant, a sexy, Dominant, alpha male with powerful connections, who played a whole new ballgame, and I loved how he rocked her world. It was steamy and suspenseful, with a fantastic world that kept me enthralled. It’s dark, but also refreshing at the same. Well done!
A post-apocalyptic world

Bryant lives in the sun – he is a prince among common men
In a world where the rich and elite rule and the less fortunate are treated like the dispensable – can two souls from different fairy tales find their happily ever after?

Sexy Alpha heroes who know exactly how to take charge
Seriously evil bad guys, who you love to hate
A storyline filled with twists and subplots and OMG moments that will engage and entertain from the opening pages to the closing
Ophelia “Phee” Everett works at a cafe and is from the “fog”. She strives to escape the fog but knows it is difficult.
Bryant Holbrook meets Phee at the cafe and asks her for a date and the two have an incredible night together.
But things are not as they appear and when Bryant’s infatuation with Phee puts her in danger what will he do?
This was an interesting book and nothing like I thought it was going to be.
I really liked Phee and how she worked hard to get herself out of the fog and stayed out of trouble. She was attracted to Bryant but knew he was from a different background than her and was worried about their differences.
I really liked Bryant initially and how he was trying to convince Phee to go out with him and they definitely had so much chemistry! I was so mad at him after their date and then everything went completely topsy-turvey and I was taken for a huge twist that I didn’t see coming.
I think I would have loved to have more background on the “fog” and Cabal of Freedom. This is my first book by this author so I don’t know if there is more on these subjects in a previous book.
I really liked how Bryant knew what he needed to do to improve peoples living situations and I wasn’t really surprised and the next big turn in the book but I was so sad at what Phee had to go through.
The chemistry between Phee and Bryant was through the roof and they definitely had an intense relationship. I was sad that their relationship took a brief turn for the worse when Phee came back due to the nature of their relationship.
A good book and I look forward to more from this author.
I really liked Phee and Bryant’s story! Phee is one of my favorite female leads so far. I loved her and Reagan! Bryant was also such a sweet, fierce man! I am usually not a fan of political type story lines but this one kept me interested and wondering what was going to happen next!
Everything I have come to expect from Jennifer’s writing!!!! Dark and dirty, intense and sooo good!! Oh and it’s a fairytale retelling, which mean I was super excited before even opening the book! True this was a previously released story (I didn’t read it before don’t be mad Jennifer!) but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth reading. From the blurb you get that the story was added to and edited to flow as one complete book, and that is exactly what it did. Since I found Jennifer’s writing I have not been disappointed and I cannot wait for what is next!
this book was originally titled Of Fog and Fire…and when i first read it, i went into it blind. i didn’t want to read any reviews or the synopsis, b/c i wanted to be pleasantly surprised on how they story unfolded. i was definitely surprised on the different feel of this book from what i’ve gotten used from jennifer bene…and i loved how she can change this up! i enjoyed this book from start to finish. jennifer added so much more to this version that made the story that much better! loved it!
I was not expecting what I read but, I love it! I was kept on the edge of my seat the entire ride. Just when you think you know what’s going to happen, you don’t. There are twists and turns, BDSM, suspense & yumminess. So good that I finished it in one sitting.
WOW! This is quite an exciting, suspenseful, intriguing, fast-moving story. It easily grabbed me from page one, with the interaction between two people from totally different backgrounds, who share a deep sense of justice and caring. Then it got better!
Phee is the cute, smart girl from the wrong side of the tracks, in this case “from the fog.” Bryant is the attractive, wealthy gentleman from the “downtown” where the sun could still shine through. They connect quickly, because of her sassy mouth, and their connection grows deeper and faster than either had anticipated. With their burgeoning love comes outside forces that embroil them in an action packed, intense conflict between the have and have nots. Phee and Bryant work together to overcome tyranny and improve conditions for the less privileged citizens.
There are battles and violence and political suspense. But throughout all the angst their love never falters. The sex is hot and the love between Phee and Bryant just fills the pages with a kind of ethereal beauty that tugged on my heartstrings.
I can’t say enough good things about this book. i couldn’t put this down. kept me up till 330 am reading. emotions run high in this book. it had me laughing and crying and even though this was a standalone with a great ending i still want more of these characters. Just a warning although this has some safe bdsm in it. it also contains some abuse and rape that might be triggers for some people.
This story takes place in a world that is pretty similar to our world technology wise, but the city in which Phee and Bryant live is divided by fog. A chance to see the sky is only for the rich.
Phee is a wonderful character. She hasn’t had it easy in life, but she is determent to make each day count and doesn’t give up. . She is strong and loyal to the people she loves. She is not perfect, but who is and that makes her more realistic.
And the saying ´ don’t judge a book by its cover`, is the perfect way to describe Bryant.
Without giving to much of the story sway. What I loved about this story is that is also shows what happens after the fact. A lot of books end at that point, but not this one. Not everything is always peachy afterwards. There is a lot to be done and hard choices to be made. What I also loved id the way the writing style and the voice of the book changes throughout the book. it runs parallel with what the characters experience.
And if you have read Jennifer Bene’s books before, you know there are also a few very hot scenes and a few darker ones, where you will find yourself turning page after page to find out what happens next.
3.5 Stars
While I did enjoy the premise of this story, girl from the wrong side of town gets her Prince or King as she saw him, I did find it slow to start. I also had loads of questions like Who and What exactly are COF?
But once I hit the halfway point and beyond all of it was tied together.
This story was Insta-love at its finest. The chemistry and action between Bryant & Phee was off the charts explosive. Some of the scenes even had me crossing my legs haha. These 2 had gone through so much tragedy individually but they didn’t let it destroy them. As a couple the continued with the drive that they wouldn’t be pushed around or dictated to, they stood tall and proud side by side.
Bryant & Phee’s story is told in 3rd person, which did put me off slightly as I find it harder to engage with the characters and immersed in what’s going on. But it was well written so I moved past that and just keep reading.
This book isn’t for the faint-hearted or those looking for a romantic fairytale. But if you enjoy your books with dark twists and hot steamy sex and a very Dominant alpha male then this could be the book for you.
When you finish reading and realize it immediately transported you to another dimension, kept you captivated until the last page and then leaves you thinking about it for days later, you know you have just read a really good story. Jennifer Bene is known for her shockingly dark and super hot stories, however, this book does a fabulous job of showing her flexibility and skill as a writer. A tale with jam packed action, mystery and suspense showcases the author’s talent to the max. A fabulous story of Phee and Bryant, expanded beyond expectations, that brings the couple through darkness from the thick fog and raises them into the light through their love. 5 huge stars
