A Standalone Second Chance Romance. It didn’t matter how young we were.We just knew.Forever was stamped on our hearts, no matter what forces tried to keep us apart. They tried, and they failed. We were happy. We lived, we loved, and we made plans. But as the years went by, we watched helplessly as those plans faded into dusty aspirations.Yet we endured. Time and time again, we came out stronger.… aspirations.
Yet we endured.
Time and time again, we came out stronger.
Until life threw the ultimate test our way, and he surrendered.
Defeated and desperate, he made a choice.
One that tore all our promises in two—leaving me pregnant, alone, and terrified.
Now he’s free, and that love is still there.
It’s everything else that’s changed.

Ah… Ms Ella Fields. The queen of love stories that have a way of gutting you first. Corrode is unique in that both h & H are strong likable people from the beginning, who just want to do right by one another. One terrible mistake changes their path, and tears them apart. The road to forgiveness is hard, and even in the midst of healing, threatens to destroy them both.
“Because at the very foundation of it all, we had a deep understanding of each other. We were friends. Friends who were in love.”
I love her writing style so much- sentences that flow, and are not endlessly wordy. Characters with flaws, but show tremendous growth. Supporting characters with important stories of their own. Ella Fields will always be an automatic 1-click for me.
Ella Fields is such an amazing author with a gift of story telling that enthralls and engages the reader, inviting them to live the story as their reality. Corrode was no different.
It is an amazing story of two people, two souls, that meet by chance and discover a spark of such a strong connection that survives time, experiences and betrayals.
I loved her characters so much, all of her characters. They have depth, and yet, their humanity shows through the weaknesses they give-in to and their emotions. I enjoyed getting to know both Felix and Maggie, their beginning, their history, their love story, and their current lives.
This story is a journey of heartbreak and hope. You will feel everything; the love, the lust, the anger, and the pain.
I honestly could not put the book down. I was a part of it for a bit and I didn’t want to leave.
I love stories full of angst, full of differing emotions that make you feel as you read, seeing the events in your mind and actually experiencing them with the characters, and Corrode fits that description to a T.
This was an amazing story, a second chance romance written in such an emotionally brilliant way, you wouldn’t want to let them go.
totally recommend this series
Wow! Heartbreaking, gut wrenching second chance romance. I am so glad that I got the chance to read this! Thank you Ella! I really don’t have any words, just read it. Oh wait I do a few words, Felix is HOT! Now go read it!
I loved this book. It was great to see Felix’s story play out! Not going to lie, it wasn’t as hot and steamy as Cyanide, but the story was amazing. There were little hints that Maggie’s disappearance wasn’t so cut-and-dry, and when things start to get brought out, the water works began. Loved these two.
Well, s**t!
I’m pretty peeved that I had no idea who Ella Fields was, until a few days ago.
After seeing some posts, from another author, about the works of Ella Fields, I asked her is this someone I should be reading? Her immediate response was – YES!
And boy oh boy, this book has not disappointed. I have had trouble putting it down to get things done in my “real” life! This story is so beautiful and romantic, with the perfect amount of angst and heartbreak. EXACTLY the type of book I adore!
Felix and Maggie are each other’s first true love. And each other’s only love – forever. For what was thought to begin as a bit of fooling around at a party, they fall desperately in love.
Ella has written their initial love so perfectly. It makes you remember what it felt like to have those little butterflies at the beginning of a relationship or the way your heart rate picks up when your first love holds your hand. The journey of Felix & Maggie is as much stunning as it is heartbreaking, at times.
To read this story in past & present is great. It is written so you really do want to see where they started and how they got to where they are now. Other authors try to write past/present and it doesn’t always work well – for Ella…. she knows how to write it well.
I absolutely loved this book and have already recommended it to quite a few people – just in the couple of days it took me to read it!
Thank you to Jeannine Allison for making my reading world a little brighter, by recommending Ella Fields to me.
And thank you to Ella Fields for giving me a story and characters that I truly could not put down. My TBR list has now grown….and my credit card will hate me a little more!
It’s no surprise that I was impatiently waiting for Felix and Maggie’s story. I adore Ella Field’s writing style and I knew this one would pack plenty of punch. I was not wrong.
Nobody else writes characters that I want to equally strangle and cuddle quite like Ella. She has a natural gift for creating beautifully flawed, real, raw characters that stay with you long after you finish the story. They’re not always the easy, popular characters but they are ones who will move you.
Love stories that matter.
Felix is the perfect blend of dirty alpha we love
“I’ll be satisfied when you tell me your name.”
“Why do you want to know?” I didn’t know where my bravado had come from, but I wasn’t going to complain.
“So when I go home, climb into bed, and wrap my hand around my cock, I know whose name I’ll be whispering into the dark”
With the touch of swoons that make me want to say here take my panties
“Of course. You’re my girl, and that’s never gonna change. You and me, Little Doe. Always.”
But…. there’s also lots more to him. We get his full history – with Jared, with Maggie and what occurred in his life to make him into the man he is – mistakes and all.
Maggie’s character was one I warmed to instantly. She is that perfect blend of naivety, wisdom and strength. She grows so much during the story that I really admired her, her journey was definitely not an easy one. She’s someone I feel very protective and strangely proud of.
Ultimately this is a love story that spans a decade, will rip your heart open, make you laugh and give you enough heat to melt your kindle.
Add to this, two of the best friends any girl could ask for, a baby boy who will make your ovaries explode and the chance to catch up with all the favourites from Cyanide and I finished this book with a giant smile on my face. It’s a book that is definitely worth your precious reading time.
Corrode is book 2 in Ella Fields’s Surface Rust series. It’s a second chance story for Felix and Maggie. Falling in love at 18 wasn’t easy but they made it work. Their love is deep and their happy for many years until Felix makes a poor decision that sends him to jail and Maggie on the run. Consequences from that decision run deep. Can they forgive, forget and love again? The transition from past to present gives you an understanding of their connection and dual POV gives both sides of the story. Another great read in the series.
“All the roads in life…no matter where I’ve been or where I’m going…every single one will always lead me back to you. In this and every life after.”
If I’m being honest I was not really as excited for this book. I love Ella Fields writing and have loved the stories she has told me so far, so I figured I would like this one too. But seriously I was not too sure I was going to love a story about a guy who wound up in jail for bad choices he made trying to support his family and the girl who took off running, keeping the baby from not only him but also his brother, because she didn’t approve of the measures he was taking…. I WAS SO WRONG!!! This story really hit me hard!
There was so much more to the story than I thought there was going to be. Felix has had a hard life. Maggie was disowned by her family because she fell in love with Felix. They had bigger dreams for their lives than they were making happen. She had her reasons for why she stayed away from him and his family. I wont get into them so you can read all about it. But she had great reasons, and when he finally returned to him she wanted nothing more than for things to go back to how they were. She was fortunate enough to have made a couple of great friends just when she needed them. He was angry and having a hard time forgiving her for not standing by him. It is such a beautiful story of them trying to make their way back to each other, to be a family. A story of a man getting over his pride and then fighting to win BACK the woman he loves. A story about a woman who fights so hard to pull herself out of a very dark place to make a better life for her and her child. It was so great that I really only put it down long enough to work… finished it in one day. I was feeling everything! All the heartbreak, all the fear, all of the love. I will not ever doubt Ella again!!!
Well, yet again, I’m not surprised Ella has delivered an outstanding story, this time of second chance love, that is far removed from any other I have read, suffice it to say it stands alone, immaculate in it’s rendition and depiction, 5 stars are not enough!.
Be prepared however, this is not a story you view from the sidelines like an audience at the theater.
Check your heart in at the cloakroom, for you will be walking through this story with it’s characters, stumbling when they fall, breaking when they come apart, laughing with their hilarity and stupidity, and crying an ocean when your emotions are ripped from you with their desperation.
We were introduced to Felix in Cyanide, but that hardly prepares you for all that he is.
He is ALL man, ALL dirty talking Alpha, ALL gentle compassionate lover, a true idiot at times that you really want to clip him one, and “Oh my God, there goes my ovaries” ALL gorgeous Dad!
His heart, Maggie, is a truly beautiful creature, shaped by the sheltered naivety but tangible brutality of her past, yet possessing a resilience and wisdom beyond her experience, she is the perfect siren for our Felix.
And their chubby little cherub Archer, who I want to eat up, may just be the perfect glue to repair the bond of their love, that is tested and stretched to breaking in this heart tearing, anguishing love story.
“The knowledge that came with giving all of yourself, a part of your soul, to someone else evoked a sting. A sense of danger that tried to be heard. But the sweet rapture that wrapped around that knowledge, that suffocated it with an inferno of promise and overwhelming happiness, eclipsed everything.”
I gave a part of my soul in reading, no, experiencing this book, so beautifully executed, this is a story that will resonate with you long after the last page.
One of the best romantic angsty books I’ve read this year
I’m so freaking happy I discovered Ella Fields two months ago! Her two previous books Frayed Silk and Cyanide were incredible and with Corrode she’s cemented herself as a favorite author of mine. Damn, all the feels she delivered with this story. They kept coming at me constantly and hit me right in the heart and gut. It was pretty intense and it’s because she’s created some strong, flawed and well developed characters.
The foundation of Felix and Maggie’s relationship was created when they first met when they were eighteen and only grew stronger as the years passed. As did my connection and love for them. Their relationship and love was unparalleled. I loved that I got their history from when they first met and how they both evolved and grew in their relationship and as people. There was no doubt that they were each other’s soul mates, so when Felix made some wrong choices which had consequences my heart broke along with theirs.
How they found their way back to one another was depicted beautifully. I wanted the angst and the tension. I didn’t want an easy solution. I wanted Maggie and Felix to fight. For their love. For them. As a couple but also as individuals. I got that and so much more. These characters made me cry, laugh and soar. I felt them!
The secondary were just as amazing cause they were critical to the story too. Jake and Warren were Maggie’s guardian angels. Jared and Vera aka Hero and Frost made me reminisce. Archie not only stole his parents heart, he also managed to steal mine.
The ending made me sit back with a gigantic smile on my face feeling very content with saying goodbye to these extraordinary characters. I’m saying goodbye but not letting go.
Ella Fields has delivered yet another spectacular book with Corrode. Her narrative is meticulously executed and I was immediately captured thanks to her flawless and intoxicating prose which is strong than ever. Ella Fields is definitely a wonderful and captivating discovery. I recommend all three books!
**BLOWN AWAY**
Ella Fields does not disappoint in this heartbreaking second chance romance between high school sweethearts Felix and Maggie. Young love can be tough, but when your connections is as strong and powerful as theirs, you are sure they can conquer the world. But sometimes life has other obstacles in store and how you handle them can make all the difference in the world.
Felix’s pride and strong need to take care of Maggie, to create the ideal life for them clouds his judgement. Terrible mistakes are made that he can never take back. Their life is altered in ways neither of them imagined and what they envisioned for their happily ever after comes to a screeching halt.
Maggie is smart, naïve and yet so strong once she needs to make a life for herself. It pains her to be without Felix, but it’s what she needs to do. I loved Felix and had no doubt how he felt about his Little Doe. He was a smooth talking, sexy, swoony alpha male that I could not get enough of. I absolutely devoured this story and never wanted to let them go.
They may have been young when their relationship started, but Ella does a great job of making you feel deep in your heart how Felix and Maggie are meant to be together. You don’t doubt their love and deep connection. It’s impossible to think of one without the other.
Felix and Maggie’s love story is filled with pain, sadness and uphill battles. And so once again I found myself yelling at my Kindle and PM’ing friends to vent over bad decisions and secrets. TALK TO EACH OTHER….DON’T DENY YOUR TRUE FEELINGS…WHAT ARE YOU THINING. These are just a few things that crossed my mind as I rode this roller coaster of passions, angst and redemption. Ella is a master at twisting my heart to the point I lose my breath, but I must be a glutton for punishment because I will not miss out on one word she has written. I will keep coming back for more and I suggest you do the same.
If I could give Corrode by Ella Fields more than 5 stars, I definitely would. There was just something so special about Felix & Maggie’s story, and I was completely mesmerized from the beginning. This is just one of those books that you need to experience. You will laugh, cry, yell, cry some more, be heartbroken, surprised……I seriously went through every emotion possible while reading this beautiful story. Please trust me when I say you need to read it. You will not be disappointed.
Omg Ella Fields has hit it out of the park with Felix and Maggie’s story!! An emotional read that grabs you and won’t let go!! I love how she gives us their past and the present. I love Little Archie and her supporting characters are just as amazing as her main characters and let’s not forget a glimpse of previously loved characters!! Don’t miss this story!!
Some of my favourite stories are ones that evolve not over months but over years and that’s what we get reading Felix and Maggie’s story.
Felix made some really bad decisions that pulled him away from Maggie, despite everything they’d been through to be together this time he can’t make it right. Maggie gambled in one thing and it didn’t work and now everything has changed.
I really enjoyed the flow of the story it moved at a realistic pace and the character development was on point. We learn how their relationship developed and why everything fell apart.
Their reunion was full of angst, hurt and feelings of betrayal, i understood the way Felix felt even if he did annoy me with his decisions at times. Maggie has changed I knew she was hiding something but I never guessed what and my heart truly hurt for her.
A really really good well written second chance love story.
WOW. Im so grateful for receiving an ARC of this book!!!! Ella Fields has hit home run number 3 with this absolutely stunning story! I have been looking forward to Maggie & Felix’s story since reading Cyanide and Ella did not disappoint. Beautiful writing. A wonderful balance of drama, humor, sadness, and excitement. You absolutely must read this book!
Yet, another example of the power of words. They are always magic. This time they just seemed a little more magical than most. Ella did an exceptional job using the words as if they were the threads making the most beautiful of tapestries. The story came alive. From the first words I was sucked in. I couldn’t stop reading. I wanted or rather needed to know what was going to happen. I couldn’t seem to turn the pages fast enough. Then as the end drew near I wanted to freeze time because I didn’t want the story or the words to end. When you find a book like that it is a gift.
Felix. Sweet holy hell. That man is everything. He took on so much weight on his shoulders to try and make something for everyone. His demons ran deep. I felt for him. Watching his journey unfold was truly wonderful. I loved that he was not afraid to express his love for his little doe. Whenever he talked whether dirty or sweet he made me swoon.
Maggie. Such a strong woman. I loved watching her through the early years and then watching her under the guidance of Warren and Jake. Those two men. Sweet holy Mary. Everyone needs friends like those two fairy godmothers. Add in Archer and it just got better.
Together, Felix and Maggie are a testament to the question of whether soulmates are real or not. In this case these two put any thought of it being a myth to bed. Their love was exceptional. It was unconditional. It was messy but more importantly it was real. There were highs and lows but somehow their hearts beat as one showing that they needed the other to survive. They had heat. Good Lord did they have heat. The chemistry was off the charts.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review and I am thankful for the chance to read this before release date. It truly was everything I was expecting and more.
What a Beautiful story of Felix and Maggie .. is a second chance story .. Felix was in jail for awhile leaving alone his girl, pregnant, scared and alone Maggie dessapears for a while not leaving trace of her and her new born son. trying to make her way in life after a very hard incident she ends up leaving with two guys who happen to be her faries as they will called themselves.. they help her for so long and made sure she was always safe .. with food, house and a place to live and also helped to heal her traumas..
Felix is out go jail now but things are not always what they seem, he thinks she abandoned him, he thinks she betrayed him but nothing like that.. he will hate her and do things that he will later regret when he finally knows the truth when he realize why she left and it wasn’t something he could ever anticipated.. he didn’t imagine what she went through, he didn’t know who was responsible for such atrocity but when he finds out he will feel ashamed of himself and won’t stop until recovered what he lost all these time..
the question is if his guilt will consume him or he will forgive himself and continue fighting for her and his son?
Felix owns a repair shop with his brother Jared.. the shop belonged to their foster father Darren.. who passed away awhile ago and now this is the only way they can survive.. Felix is devoted to continue fighting and providing to them no matter the feelings he has for Maggie..
a beautiful real story of two people who love eache other so much and are fighting for their love.. so many people and obstacle and circumstances are about to get between them but they are strong and they can survive and fight for everything they need and want..
“All roads in life… No matter where i’ve been or where i’m going every single one will always lead me back to you, in this and every life after”
Sam, i hate that chick.. she is the typical girl who will smile to you and backstab you as soon as you turn around.. and you won’t see that coming.. she was mean even when she was trying to be nice.. just be aware of her.. you are going to slap her in your mind like 300000 times lol
I Adoreeeee Archie!! every single detail of him made me feel him.. what i love about Ella’s writing is that you can easily put yourself in the characters shoes and you can feel and think like them, you even feel identify and suffer and cry and laugh with them.. i totally saw Archie, i totally felt the anger between Felix and Maggie.. i felt their need and the hate and the want to fight and survive all of this…
you can see in this book other characters like Jared, Vera, Cleo and Isla and many others too..
“you’re my best friend, my heart, there’s always room for error and forgiveness where the hearts concerned” ..
I can’t wait to read more from Ella’s ..
Mags and Felix have one of the sweetest loves I have been privileged to witness. It is a love that blooms in youth and only grows stronger and brighter as the years progress. The salt that stings the cuts which are created by the harsh realities of their lives is what ultimately leads to the healing of those wounds. The strengthening of each individual and the solidification of the two as a couple is the end result of the torturous journey on which life leads them.
I adored seeing the bad boy fall hopelessly in love with the good girl. I loved watching these two support each other in their daily struggles. My heart shattered when life threw curve balls at them and poor decisions rocked the foundation of this amazing twosome. I struggled with them as the fought through their confusion and heartache. I rejoiced when they finally embraced the love that had always connected them.
A bonus I reaceived, in reading Corrode was that I got a glimpse into the lives of a fascinating new couple, as well as, a look into the world favorite couple from from Cyanide. I truly enjoyed watching these couples interconnect with Mags and Felix. It was simply beautiful to see them hold Mags and Felix up as individuals and support them on their odyssey back to each other.
Ella Fields has made another stunning contribution to the Surface Rust world. Her work is quickly becoming a staple in my library of “must-read” authors.
