Duty bound Earl of Harley needs his family castle restored and the last person he expects to show up to oversee the project is a self-assured, fiery-haired engineer who speaks her mind and makes his body come alive.
A sweet escape:
I enjoyed this unique and modern take on a Lord-of-the-castle finding his one true love. The story drew me in from the beginning and I had fun journeying with the characters. I felt a connection to both Allison and Ian and was eager for them to find a way to be together. I liked that Allison was feisty, independent and strong whilst simultaneously also having a softer, more vulnerable side. This was a sweet story with a little heat and I look forward to reading upcoming books in this series to find out how the rest of the ladies at Historical Restorations make out.

Love when they least expect it! With the first book in a new Modern Masters of Their Castles series, Susan Carlisle steps out of her medical romance roots and delights her readers with a whimsical dash of royalty. In CORNERSTONE OF LOVE, we meet a reluctant Earl and a confidant tradeswoman who instantly connect.
Ian Chalmers became Earl of Hartley upon his father and older brother’s death and though it was never the way he expected to live his life, he stepped up heartily and throws himself into his responsibilities … at the expense of his own happiness.
Allison Moore is an expert in her field of structural engineering and restoration, but she’s looking to move forward in her life and make a few more of her dreams come true.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a strong feminine heroine weaved into a royal romance. The characters showed spunk and a whole lot of heart. I enjoyed it and look forward to more in the series.

Cornerstone of Love by Susan Carlisle is a wonderful first story in her new series Modern Masters if their Castles.
I found a blurb for this story months ago before it was released and immediately marked it to be read. I was not disappointed!
Cornerstone is the story about Ian, the master of his castle, and Allison, the architecture expert, who was hired to restore part of the castle. Modern old world meets modern new world. To say their ideas and personalities clash is putting it mildly.
How do two headstrong, independent and stubborn individuals recognize they have more in common than they have different? You are going to need to read this one to see.
I read this book in one day because I refused to put it down. The characters are excellent and very well developed. The chemistry between these two is beyond wonderful. I laughed, cheered and yelled at these two all through the book. I can’t wait for the next books to release.
I received a copy of this book from the author without expectation of a positive review. The opinions expressed are my own.

I found this to be a surprisingly enjoyable read. Ian and Allison are both a tad rigid and set in their ways, and they both deserve to actually enjoy all that life has to offer. After a less than impressive first meeting, Ian has some seriously making up to do and Allison has to decide if she’ll accept his stilted apologies and attempts to make things right. They move toward friendship and so much more, but reality forces them to either bend together or break apart. Luckily, love can usually find a way to make things right without too much pain and suffering. Thanks to this book, I’m interested to see what the next story in the series brings my way.

Excellent beginning to the Modern Masters of their Castle series. I immediately was drawn into the story. I soon cared about the characters, especially the strong female main character, Allison, who has an interesting job of being a historical engineer restoring a castle.
I love the plot, a bit of adversaries, to friends, to romantic couple. Just enough of spice to make the story interesting. Ian and Allison are a meant to be couple and it was a joy to read their story.
I am starting the next in the series today. I have the entire 3 book series, and the novella, so I am all set to enjoy the world that Susan Carlisle has created!

Ian and Allison’s love story in Cornerstone of Love by Susan Carlisle, book one in her Modern Masters of Their Castles series, is a sweet and enjoyable tale. Ian Chalmers never expected to become the Earl of Hartley or the CEO of Hartley Shipping, but when his father and older brother were killed he didn’t have a choice. Ian allowed these responsibilities to take over his life, doing whatever was expected of him. When a fascinating, free-spirited woman is hired to lead the repairs on Hartley castle, Ian’s structured life is suddenly turned upside down. Alison Moore is the construction engineer who was hired to oversee the repairs on Hartley castle. Her attraction to Ian was off-set by the way he had to be in control of everything within his scope of influence. Allison was determined to get this job done as it would bring her closer to reaching her life’s goal of having a home of her own. As their attraction continues to sizzle and pull them together and with the project nearing completion, Ian and Allison will have to decide what they want most in life. In doing so, they realize their goals are not necessarily the ones they should have been wishing, and working, for; that they need a cornerstone for their love to build upon.
Ms. Carlisle wrote an emotional, flirty, sweet romance that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with emotions, off the charts chemistry, magnetic attraction, wonderful dialogue, and endearing characters giving Ian and Allison a chance at a forever love. I highly recommend Cornerstone of Love to other readers and look forward to the next book in this series.

Cornerstone of Love by Susan Carlisle is the First book in the Modern Masters of Their Castles series. This is the story of Allison Moore and Ian Chalmers. Ian has been left the family title of the Earl of Harley along with the CEO of Hartley International Shipping after the passing of his older brother and father. Never really assume that he would have the title he is now doing his best to get things moving along and the best job that he can. Ian’s family home which is the Harley Castle is in need of repairs which has lead him to hire someone to fix the castle. This is where Allison enters into the pictures. Allison is used to travel due to her family history but has since thought to have a home of her own. Allison is an American who is a engineer that has been hired to oversea the repairs. Sparks and tempers fly from the start between these two until they can’t control their emotions any longer. I really enjoyed their story and hope to read more from this author and series.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit, but felt both the main characters to be a little stiff. Ian finds himself as Earl of Hartley. With the title comes another title, CEO of Hartley International Shipping. He has assumed his roll after the loss of his father and older brother. Being so focused on making sure Hartley continues at it should, he never sees Allison coming. Allison is the no nonsense American Construction Engineer that shows Ian how being a free spirit can be a good thing. When the renovations come to end, will that be the end for the couple? That was the big question. The HEA was perfect for the book.
