Core 52 removes both barriers, offering a common-sense solution that fits into our busy lives. Respected Bible professor and teaching pastor Mark E. Moore developed this proven process from thirty-five years of helping people grow deeper in God’s Word.

This simple approach allows you to become familiar with the big ideas of the Bible in less time and with less effort than other reading plans. In one year, you can master the core of the Bible—focusing on topics from God’s will to worry, happiness to holiness, and leadership to love. These fifty-two core passages are lenses through which you can read the rest of the Bible with clarity and confidence.

This book has been an encouragement to me as I’ve read through it this summer. It’s actually one of the few books I know I will go through again, possibly each year.
It’s like many of the devotional books written to take just fifteen minutes which is a great morning jolt before heading off for the day. Except that it’s not a devotional book! This book gives you deep lessons in those fifteen minutes to help you know and understand your Bible more. People say they don’t have time before work or heading out the door for a busy day, but this book will make you start a new morning routine. You’ll want to get into it each day. And what better way to start your day with God’s Word in your mind!
I do have a confession to make! There were many days I would keep reading to the next chapter because I wanted more. But I finally paced myself and held to the one chapter each morning!
Great book for yourself or for a gift. Make sure you get your own copy, you’ll be underlining and highlighting a lot and that’s probably not a good idea to give someone a gift you’ve already marked in!

To help strengthen your spiritual core
My rating is 4.5 stars
Pastor Mark E. Moore wrote Core 52 as a way for everyday Christians to learn the Bible through daily readings, memorization of Scripture, and prayer. He selected what he considers the most important teachings of the Bible and has organized them into a collection of essays designed to be read one per week. One day a week is dedicated to reading the essay, the next to memorizing scripture, then short Bible readings and practical application.
I like the approach used here. Geared to assist busy people willing to carve out a few minutes a day makes this goal very attainable. The essays are engaging, easy to read, and are consistent with Biblical teaching.
Christians who do not have a solid foundation for what they believe or why they believe it can benefit from going through Core 52. It is also good for those who need a refresher on the basic tenets of the Christian faith and for those who are simply curious about Christianity.

I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
Author Mark Moore lays this book out in such a way that you read a chapter a week (52). During that time you’ll study a Bible truth, memory verses, etc. It really is a great way to study the Word and makes a good devotional. He also gives resources (books to read) for further study.
I don’t hesitate to recommend this book for someone who wants to grow, spiritually. I didn’t agree with everything, and maybe a few subjects could have gone a little deeper but that’s okay. It really is a great resource.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
Core has many meanings in the dictionary but I found it to mean foundational in the title of this book. You will get a foundational understanding of God’s Holy Word. All it takes in this busy world we live in is fifteen minutes a day to read and study a chapter. Then in a year’s time you will have 52 lessons to help understand the Bible more. The first chapter starts with creation and chapter 52 ends with Heaven. In between are chapters covering fundamental ideas from the Bible such as: Knowing God’s Will, Prayer, Money, The Cross, Worship, among many others.
Weekly goals include memorizing scripture and finding ways to carry out the lesson in a mission act. Each chapter ends with key points to further understand the lesson.
Author Mark Moore is a Bible professor and teaching pastor with over thirty five years of experience with helping others grow in the knowledge of God’s teaching through His Word.
If you need to know how to begin a daily Bible study or just learn more of God’s Word, this is the book for you!

Core 52 is for spiritual health what CrossFit is for physical fitness. In just fifteen minutes a day, you can master the fifty-two most important verses in the Bible. Most of us want to know the Bible better, but few reach our goal, often because we’re too busy or we don’t know where to start. Core 52 removes both barriers, offering a commonsense solution that fits into our busy lives. Mark E. Moore mentions that eighty percent of people of people who attend church desire to know the Bible better and that sixty percent who aren’t connected with church also want to be better educated in the Bible.
Some of the topics are devoted to Bible history and the events such as the Creation, The Fall, The Crucifixion, and The Resurrection, and other topics focused is concepts such as Love, Worship, Grace, and Humility. With 52 readings, each one has a five-day plan. With 15 minutes, you can increase your Bible knowledge.
I recommend Core 52 to anyone who desires to better understand God’s word. Core 52 challenges me to remember memory verses and practical ways to put what I have learned into practice. There is an optional “Overachiever Challenge” which offers me a chance to memorize the top 100 Bible verses. Core 52 is a way to build your Bible IQ and Christian worldview.
I received an advanced copy of this book from Waterbrook and Multnomah in return for an honest review.
This book is set up to be used as a sort of weekly devotional. The author took what he considers 52 of the most important subjects and passages for the book. The subjects cover Creation, prayer, money, love, grace, and several other topics.
Each chapter begins with the topic title, a Bible verse about it, a question about the topic, and then the answer. After a few pages covering the topic and question, the key points are listed, and it ends with a plan to master the Bible in a year, 15 minutes a day. Day 1 is read the essay. Day 2 memorize the core text – which is only 1 or 2 verses usually, and review verses from the previous two weeks. Day 3 is read a story from elsewhere in the Bible that illustrates the text from the current week. Day 4 is read the 3 trajectory passages and mediate on them. Day 5 is put it into action.
I didn’t read all 52 chapters/topics, but did several. It seems the author did a great job of picking topics to cover that are at the core of the Bible. He also did a good job of making the book an interesting read, and it doesn’t come off at all like a stuffy boring theological book like some are.

Core 52 by Mark E. Moore is a unique way to increase your Biblical I.Q. in just 52 simple lessons. One lesson per week. I have always wanted a way to make myself learn more about the Bible. I think I know a lot about the Bible, but I can always learn more about this everlasting Book. First, Moore writes a essay to give reader something to think about before diving into the actual Bible verses. I think the concept is wonderful and great for Bible learners who want to grow without spending a lot of time stuck in a book or have too little time in their world to focus on a devotional. I enjoyed a number of the lessons, but I can’t wait to spend more time with this book and see what else I can learn.
I received a complimentary copy of Core 52 written by Mark E. Moore from Waterbrook-Multnomah Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
In the introduction to this book author Mark E. Moore tells us that eighty percent of people who attend church desire to know the Bible better and that sixty percent who aren’t connected with any church also want to be better educated in the Bible. Core 52 is certainly a great place to start because Moore has devised a plan that will help us build our Bible IQ in one year. Each week he shares specific Bible scripture, an essay to go with it, and tips to help you further your understanding of that scripture; I especially like that he shares Key Points and an outline titled This Week that will help in achieving your goal. In one year, by devoting fifteen minutes a day, five days a week, to this structured plan, we can gain a greater understanding of God’s Word.
Some weeks the topics are devoted to Bible history and the events that are the basis of Chrisitanity, such as the Creation, The Fall, The Crucifixion, and The Resurrection, and other weeks the focus is on Christian concepts such as Love, Worship, Grace, and Humility. Every topic is pertitent to Christian living and each week is enlightening.
I recommend Core 52 to anyone who wants to understand God’s Word better. It doesn’t matter if you fall in the eighty percent who attend church regularly or the sixty percent who don’t—if you want to know The Holy Bible better, you will truly benefit from Core 52!

Core 52 : A Fifteen-Minute Daily Guide To Build Your Bible IQ In A Year, written by Mark E. Moore, teaching pastor at Christ’s Church of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona, formerly a New Testament professor at Ozark Christian College for twenty-two years, presents the reader with a 52 week plan to learn 52 core texts and concepts of the bible. Moore lays out a five day plan for each week’s topic. Day 1. Read the essay and the three key points to check for comprehension.
Day 2. Memorize the core text and review verses from the previous two
weeks.
Day 3. Read a story or other passage from the bible that illustrates the
text of the week.
Day 4. Read through three trajectory passages.
Day 5. Put it into practice by making time to include an action step,
directly applying what was learned in the week’s lesson.
Moore states that “if you can carve out fifteen minutes a day, five days a week, for one year, you’ll know the vast majority of what every preacher preaches.” He backs up this statement by telling the reader he has applied the Pareto principle or the 80/20 rule to the bible. The Pareto principle says 20 percent of one’s effort yields 80 percent of the results. Moore encourages his readers by affirming his plan, “with this core, you can go further faster, moving from curiosity to confidence.”
After reading through a few weeks of topics I have found that Moore has done a fine job of melding the old and new testament together to explain various concepts. He also uses the bible passages in context as they should be used to make his points, which is important to have reliable bible learning. Some bible study writers pull bible verses and passages out to illustrate a point being made but do not hold the text to the integrity it was intended, I have not found this to be so in Moores book.
One comment I might make is that both the church Pastor Moore is currently at and the college he formerly taught at as a professor are non-denominational christian organizations. I make this observation because I myself am a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. I have many friends from various denominational backgrounds. Through biblical discussions we often vary on some of our viewpoints concerning theology and bible interpretation. I found a few topics in “Core 52″that not surprisingly did not align with my Lutheran beliefs, however that does not change my mind that Moore has written a solid tool for learning some core foundations of the bible. I would just suggest that anyone reading the book that stumbles upon a section that seems to differ from what their particular denomination or previous teaching has upheld, do further study and/or ask their pastor for clarification.
Overall, Moore has developed a good resource to build some daily bible study discipline and common bible knowledge. I feel that Core 52 : A Fifteen-Minute Daily Guide To Build Your Bible IQ In A Year , when used wisely according to each person’s beliefs, can be a helpful aid in becoming more confident in the bible knowledge.

Core 52 is a wonderful guide to learn more about God’s Word, the Bible. The author, Mark E. Moore is a teaching pastor in Phoenix, AZ and has been a professor at several Christian colleges and universities, as well as being the author and co-author of many books. In Core 52 readers will find a well-organized plan to, as the title suggests, build your Bible IQ. I liked the easy to understand language and how the author has laid out the information in a 52-week structure to guide the reader into further understanding of a number of subjects related to the Scriptures. With a suggested time frame of fifteen minutes a day, each week’s subject begins with a several page essay and key points, and then a guide to follow during the week. Readers will learn and build their Bible IQ about subjects such as Creation, Our True Identity, The Holy Spirit, Morality, Money, Knowing God’s Will, and Heaven. Through the week readers are then encouraged to memorize, read, and meditate on specific scriptures, and then a suggestion is given to make application of that week’s lesson. The author also includes something he calls “Overachiever Challenge” and a Bonus Read, that suggests a book to read that is related to the subject of the week. One of the weeks I found especially encouraging is the one on Freedom as Moore reminds readers that freedom begins with Christ’s work on the cross to forgive sin and then freedom is lived out as we live by the Spirit rather than our natural instincts and the recognition of who we are as sons of God. This book is a great resource for one’s personal library (the church library too) and to give as a gift.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from Waterbrook Publishers and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.
