He thought he was done. His career as a special forces sniper was over. He’d lost his leg and his dignity in that ambush. Now, after nearly a year of rehab, he was fighting the toughest battle in his life: prove he was still worthy to serve. His chance: Contract with Fury Security to pull protection for a rancher by the name of Sam Bishop. If he succeeded in routing out the bad guy, Cord would be … Cord would be back on the team.
The bonus:
He’d be able to get the hell away from all the counselors and therapists trying to tell him how to come to grips with his PTSD and missing limb. There were no emotions and feelings in west Texas, just rough necks and grit. Exactly what he needed.
The catch:
Sam’s real name is Samantha and she’s not a codgy old man – she’s the one girl from Cord’s past he never got over. He thought he’d lost his chance with her, and now that he wasn’t a whole man, he didn’t deserve her.
Samantha is determined to show Cord he’s everything she ever wanted. Her biggest battle isn’t the stalker threatening her life: it’s making Cord see he’s worthy of her love and so much more.

Cord thought his career was over until Fury Security gave him a chance to prove himself. Little did he know the person he would be helping was the girl he never got over. This is a fast-paced read with loads of drama and lots of emotion. The story as well as the characters really draw you in. I really liked it.
This is the first title I have read by this author and it won’t be the last!! Cord’s Chance is one of those books that sucks you in and won’t let go til the very end.
Cord is a character I instantly fell in love with. After losing a leg, all he wants to do is get back out there and do what he does best, the military. He never gives up on what he wants, he works harder to get what he wants. But what happens when he is sent to protect the girl from his past?
I can’t wait to read more by this author!
**I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**
Cord’s Chance is the final team member from the Men of Mercy series who is unattached. But he’s still dealing with the loss of his leg from a RPG and but he’s not letting go of his anger and pain is putting it mildly. So when he’s offered a private security job with Fury Security he know that he needs to pass this year to return to active duty. Do I wish there was more to the novella absolutely! However there are new characters introduced for Ms. Cross’s new series Fury Security that I’m excited to hear about.
Samantha Bishop needs to find out who has killed some of her cows and asks for help from Fury Security. Little does she know that it will be Cord her crush from high school who’ll be sent to find out who is bothering her. Sam’s ranch uses equine therapy for wounded veterans for whom she gives counseling for their PTSD. But she came to the ranch when a previous boyfriend became abusive could the attacks be linked to him? First she has to guard her heart and not let Cord know that she has feelings for him while they find the stalker.
I loved the characters including the crusty fellow who stayed with the ranch after her grandfather she never knew left her the ranch. I’m excited to learn more about the veterans at her ranch as well as the men of Fury Security.
Ms Cross gives us another engaging story with complex characters.
The story centers around Cord and Sam. Cord is a sniper who has suffered not only physical losses but also emotional and psychological ones. While recovering he takes a job with a security company. Little did he know that the person he is due to protect, is his HS tutor and the girl he thought was too good for him, even though he had a crush on her. Sam owns a ranch dedicated to rehab veterans using equine therapy.
While the story was interesting, what I appreciated most was the reminder to us , that many of the brave men and women that dedicate themselves to keeping us safe, come back from war with not only physical , but also psychological injuries. As a society, we need to do more to help them return to civilian life. For that, thank you , Ms . Cross.
The one con in the book is that I felt the story ended abruptly and probably would have benefited from another chapter.
I voluntarily read this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Cord’s Chance is an emotionally well written book that grabs the reader from page one and doesn’t let go. Cross is not afraid to bring light to the physical and emotional scars our military men and women come home from war with. She has brilliantly written Cord’s physical rehab after losing his leg and team. All he wants to do is what he always has done be part of the military serving his country and team to the best if his ability. He has not dealt with the emotional aspectsof his injury and rehab and has to prove himself in a test before returning to active duty. He will provide security for a Fury Security client by the name if Sam Bishop. And this is where the story gets really interesting and fast paced. Sam turns out to be Samantha a high school crush if Cord’s. As he deals with his feelings of self doubt and PTSD his emotions are starkly portrayed and all will fall in love with Cord. This protective, loyal alpha male must keep his woman safe at all cost. Samantha is perfect for Cord and their chemistry is off the chart. Although this novella was fast paced it packed alot into a short story. I read this in one sitting and as always Cross did not disappoint
Cord is an injured veteran with internal demons that he is trying to conquer. Samantha is a woman who comes into his life, because someone is trying to hurt her. Cord is assigned to help with the case and is surprised to realize that they know each other. It is also a test to see how far he has come in conquering his demons and to see if his military career is over or not.
This story is powerful and emotional. It is exciting and suspenseful with great action in it. There is also a nice amount of steamy romance too. The story is very well written with very engaging and interesting characters and moves at a good pace. It is a great addition to the awesome Men of Mercy series. I highly recommend it.
Cord has undergone intense therapy after losing his leg and has just about isolated himself from his team. They’re all settling down and having babies and Cord can’t believe their HEA. He is offered a temporary job with Fury Security as a kind of test before his CO lets him back onto the team.
Samantha runs an equine therapy ranch on the property left to her by the grandfather she didn’t know. Bu when she reaches out for some help after vandalism and some creepy moments, she doesn’t expect Cord to land on her doorstep. She tutored him back in high school and they had a near miss at something else but Cord doesn’t believe he deserves happiness and they broke up before they ever really got together.
Great mix of suspense, thriller and romance. Creepy stalker exes, over familiar therapy patients and an Alpha protector who has had a knock to his self esteem. Cord and Sam are both strong characters but also have very visible chinks in their armour. Sam would help anyone to her own detriment and Cord will go out of his way to protect those he holds dear. Great read!
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I have to say this was not my favorite Cross book but it was still a great read. I just felt like Cord should of had more to it. This is most likely more of a personal want and opinion but I really wanted to see Cord work out his internal struggles more.
I loved Cord and really felt for him. I could not imagine how hard it is to get back up after losing a leg. Cord definitely has a chip on his shoulder and battles in his head.
You really have no idea what is going on with Sam until later on in the book. Sam is determined and willing to do whatever it takes to keep her ranch running to help protect and heal not just the soldiers but the animals too.
This novella is fast paced, second chance insta-love, with alpha men, head strong women, and really mean bad guys. Cross never fails to write good reads and I could not put this down once I got started!
This was an interesting story about strength, trust & forgiveness. I enjoyed this book & the characters.
I am reading this book again I could not put it down once I started it A well-written book that kept my interest until the end. I received a copy of this book and I am reviewing it.
Give this one a chance
Chance, an injured veteran, is recruited for an assignment with Fury Security in order to determine his fitness to return to duty. Once there he runs into Samantha, the girl he can’t get off his mind and the person who hired Fury. As the story progresses the reader is drawn into their lives and follows the same twists and turns Cord and Samantha do. With surprises, action and suspense, Cord’s Chance is a great addition to the Men of Mercy series.
Cord and Sam are finding second chances are filled with peace, love, and salvation when they reunite in order to save one another. Sam inherited a ranch she admittedly knew little to nothing about. But she thinks in her time she’s turned it into a nice haven for those, both animal and people, that need it. When her Ranch is threatened she knows she it’s her responsibility to protect it so she end lists so help from a private security firm. She just never thought in a million years the man that would be sent to guard her would be the man she hopelessly adored as a teen. Cord needs something to prove to the world that he’s not out of commission just yet. His last OCONTUS assignment left him broken physical and mentally, but he’s determined to push through no matter what. When he’s tapped to do a civilian surveillance job he figures it will be a great way to prove he’s back 100%. He wasn’t counting a blast from the past with Sam. He always knew she was far too good for him, which is why he kept her a arms length, but that game plan isn’t going to work out this time. He’s there to save her but truly she’s the one that saves him.

I fell a little in love with this wounded warrior way before I met Samantha, and realized he wasn’t up for grabs. There strong long held bond, unbroken by time and space, just waiting on a chance to blossom. Add in a stalker, and you have a fast passed read that will keep you up until the end. Lindsay Cross has written another heartfelt read
Lindsay Cross has once again proven to her readers what a fabulous writer she is. This story was so heartfelt. It grabs your attention from the beginning and doesn’t let go. Cord’s story really connected with me. His love for country and duty is something that a lot of readers can relate to. Readers will love his relationship with Sam. I would recommend this book to anyone. I was also thrilled to get a few updates on the rest of the Men of Mercy team. I can’t wait to see what comes next from the author! 5 stars!
Cord’s Chance by Lindsay Cross a very well written story. This is a story with some drama, a bit of suspense, some really great chemistry and love. The characters are strong, independent and smart. This is Cord and Samantha’s story. A page turner, a second chance romance and brought a tear or two to my eyes. Cord is a battle scarred special forces sniper, who lost his leg in an ambush and all he wants is a chance to prove he can still serve. He is given a chance to prove himself when he’s asked to protect a rancher Sam Bishop who is being stalked. Sam short for Samantha is surprised and happy to see her high school crush, Cord who has been assigned to protect her. There are a few twists, with some interesting ups and downs you won’t want to miss in this great story. A must read that will pull at your heartstrings. Hope to see more of the great characters who we are introduced to in this book. I absolutely recommend this great book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
While Cord is recuperating from an injury he is trying to be cleared for duty. He is hired out as security for someone on a ranch that is being threatened. He didn’t know that this was a girl he had a crush on in highschool. they get together as he is trying to find out who is after her and have some sticky situations that they must get out of. She is running a ranch for war vets for therapy and he is not happy about this when he finds out.
