Happy Halloween!
This is a fabulous read for all ages, and perfect for the fall with short days and long nights…. I loved the unique characters and how a simple thing like button eyes can become terrifying!
It is interesting. I read this book with two of my children. The youngest thought it was a delightful adventure, but my older girl shuddered. “Momma, I don’t like that Other Mother and her button eyes.” There is a subtlety and sophistication to the terror of the Other Flat with its wonders that made me shiver as well.
Coraline is a delightful …
One of the greatest disservices that we do to our children is pretending that bad things aren’t going to happen to them. While written for children, “Coraline” is absolutely a no-holds-barred horror story in which our heroine (Coraline, a little girl) finds herself pitted against a true monster in a strange place with few resources beside her own …
This is just an almost perfect story, and the audiobook version is even better since it’s narrated by Gaiman himself.
Coraline is a curious girl whose parents don’t seem to have time for her. When she finds a secret door, she heads through and discovers another home and another set of parents just like her own. Only not. Coraline soon learns the …
There are two books tied for my all time #1 favorite read. This is one of them. I had never anticipated a book more than “Coraline” and it blew every expectation I had clear out of the ocean.
This book was pretty creepy. I enjoyed it though. I like that it showed children reading it that the way to be brave is to do something even when you’re scared, and that children can be smart enough to think their way out of difficult situations. I’ve not seen the movie yet, so I’m looking forward to watching that with my kids.
It was awesome, I honestly need to reread this book myself as it’s been a while since I last read it, but it was an awesome book, I recommend it.
Read 2008
OH HOLY COW!!! I really didn’t know what to expect when I decided to read this book. So many people here have read it and made it sound so great that when I found it at my bookstore, I HAD TO BUY IT!!
I LOVED this book. This is one of the best YA books I have read in a good long while (and there are LOTS of them out there). I love how …
4 stars – It was really good
I have wanted to read this book since the movie came out years ago but for some reason I kept forgetting about it. Now after owning this book for three years, I have finally read it. This was a fascinating story about young Coraline and her adventures with the mysterious door in her house.
I was surprised by how …
I thought it was wonderful! I have watched the movie since I was 6 and never really got scared, but this book gave me the chills. I did reconize some parts of the book but it was like a whole different story from the movie! For example Wybie was not in the book! My favroite parts are the rat poems! I recommend this book to readers 11 and up. …
This was one of the most unusual books I’ve ever read, and, as such, was a wonderfully worthwhile read. I do not often come across stories that are so original, and I love the haunting, eerie structure of the plot. It certainly kept me guessing until the end. The cat was such a wonderful touch, and I could not help but sympathize with Coraline. …
love all of Neil Gaiman’s work that I have had the pleasure to read! this story is magic, pure twisted magic.
Imaginative and interesting character.
I loved this book! Just scary enough.
Not my kind of book, I didn’t finish it.
This review is specific to the audiobook version of Coraline. I found it a real treat to listen to the story read by the author. It’s not often you get to hear how they intend for a book to be read.
I loved that Coraline was a strong-willed young girl who demonstrated true courage but who also had her own faults, particularly wanting a more …
so i watched the movie first and i found out there was a book and i love both of them.
If Coraline steps through the door she was warned not to, her entire life will change. Yet, she has to do it twice to get back the life she loves.
Sinister, terrifying and absolutely awesome. This is the kind of book that middle-grade readers will love to read just to get frightened.
The pace, the tension and the imagery draws one in from the …
Gaiman is a god. Nothing he writes is anything short of enthralling.
i like it because they really draw you into the story and makes you want to read it more and more .
