This is what Drake and Adam keep telling to themselves while rushing into insta-everything: a relationship, after meeting one evening; Drake’s coming out; living together…
I cannot say that this is my favourite by this author, but considering that most of their books have left me a sobbing mess, this one is a short, sweet diversion.
Really good performance by narrator Scott R. Smith!
Short, hot and fun
A closeted cop and a police force whose bigoted. Hence why he’s closeted still.
A coffee shop owner and a gay fireman. Mix them all up, and you have a short story.
Although it’s sweet and fun, there’s also anger and beatings. Good story, well worth the read / listen.
This book is well written, hot and fun. HEA. Good narration from Scott Smith. Although, like usual, I sped up the audio, and I listened at 1.35 speed on audible.

Cops, Cakes, and Coffee is a contemporary romance by Sara York. This is a quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. This is a M/M romance, so it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Ms. York has provided readers with a fun story populated with adorable characters. Drake is a cop playing a charity game against the fire department. He has a bet with his firefighter friend. When he loses the bet he has to read a raunchy poem at a coffee/bar. Adam is the owner of the coffee/bar and asks Drake to go have a burger after he closes. Adam and Drake’s story is packed with drama, humor, steamy sexy bits, action and suspense. I enjoyed reading this book and would happily read more from this author. Cops, Cakes, and Coffee is book 1 of the Love’s First Response Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I’m reviewing the audio edition. This is a great short story. I liked that it had a point of making choices. Does Drake stand up for what he believes in or stay in the closet. When he is almost given no choice he proves to be fearless. This is a fun story when you don’t want to get too involved yet want a complete story. It left me happy at the end and looking forward to the next. The narrator Scott Smith brought these characters to life and put plenty of emotion into the story. I was given a free copy and this is my voluntary review.
too similar to many other books
Update: Audio Review
I found this a fun read. It is a fairly basic romance of a closeted cop and an out and proud man. I think it’s a nice read for one of those nights you’re looking for something sweet and spicy. I liked the storyline of one cop standing up for a friend and lover and having to make decisions that would out himself.
The characters were also interesting. I liked Drake and loved Adam. I spotted Grady’s secret right away but for some reason, I liked Grady even more than Drake and am hoping he gets the next story..
I recommend this if you like sweet romance, Insta-lust/love, fast-moving love, men in uniform (firemen and cops!) and some pretty hot man-sex.
Scott R Smith did a pretty good narration bringing this story to life. I liked the excitement he gave to the story. It was nice getting to listen to a fun sweet story while cooking and cleaning.
Sickly sweet. Great quick read.
This was a cute and sexy story. You have Drake the cop which is super sexy then there’s Adam. Let me tell you Adam can make a cake for me anytime. I agree with him. Nothing beats the flavor of homemade desserts. Especially the way Grandma made them. I just wish the story had a little more to it. Maybe something to show why Drake was closeted. Just felt a little rushed but as usual, it was still a good read by a great author. This is the second time I’ve read it and like all of Sara York’s work, it will always be s part of my rereading library.
