Another great book by Ms. Cates.
This is the 8th book in the series and it has been a little while since I read the last book but as soon as I started reading, it all came back to me. I love that this series is a cozy magical mystery because you get the best of both worlds. The ending to this book has a great start for the 9th book. Can’t wait for it!
Book 162 towards my goal of 290! 4/5 stars for this witchy cozy mystery. It’s been too long since I read a witchy cozy, and way too long since I visited with these characters! Great for fans of Misspelled! The storyline was great in this one! Can’t wait to see wedding shenanigans in the next book! Can’t recommend this cozy series enough! Definitely recommend!
I do so enjoy reading A Magical Bakery Mystery, Cozy Mystery Series… this one was an enjoyable read!… I have the next ready to go!
This series is a fun, quick series. Cookies and Clairvoyance is the 8th book but could be read as a standalone. I enjoy each book as I get to know Katie and the other characters of the Magical Bakery Mystery series more. This book has me laughing and rooting along with the characters.
Another fabulous addition to the Magical Bakery series. I loved how the ongoing story line moved along and hope that there is a wedding soon! The turmoil surrounding the murder and other events was high this time and had me turning pages faster and faster! I’m so glad things turned out the way they did and the lead in to the next book is amazing! I hope it comes sooner than later.
Katie Lightfoot runs the Honeybee Bakery and café with her aunt and uncle. She’s got a lot going on in addition to baking where a little beneficial magic is added to the recipes. She’s juggling wedding plans and a visit from her father when she receives a call from detective Peter Quinn where he’s on a murder case that seems to have a touch of the unusual to it. Katie is drawn into the investigation and faces an unknown danger which may change her life forever.
I LOVE this series and this book is no exception. Bailey Cates keeps the series fresh and it’s great to get to know the characters better and better with each book. I was drawn into this book from the beginning and kept hooked until the end. I highly recommend it and suggest you read the series in order.
Thanks to Penguin’s First To Read Program for a digital ARC of this book to review.
I really enjoyed this book. This is the first entry in the Magical Bakery Mystery series that I have read, although it is the 8th entry. With that said, I can say that this book can definitely be read as a stand alone. There are many references to events that took place in earlier books, but none are of such importance that they impact this one. (It might be beneficial to start with earlier books so that you can become familiar with characters and background information if that’s important to you.)
Katie has moved from Akron to Savannah where she works in her aunt’s bakery. She has recently learned that she is a witch (after her mom kept magic out of the equation while she was growing up). She has a familiar (pup) and is getting ready to marry her firefighter boyfriend Declan. When a patron of the bakery is murdered, Detective Quinn (reluctantly) calls upon Katie to assist him in the case.
There are so many elements to this cozy mystery. The story touches on various forms of magic and spirituality including witchcraft, shamans, Native tribal beliefs, and even leprechauns. It’s all quite interesting and adds some oomph to the book overall. The characters are quite likable and exude southern charm and hospitality. Furthermore, the setting of Savannah is awesome since it’s considered to be one, if not the most, haunted cities in the United States.
The mystery itself at times seems to take a bit of a backseat to other subplots in the story but I was okay with that. The ending ties up rather quickly but feels complete.
I intend on going back to the beginning of the series and reading them from start to finish after reading this entry.
I would definitely recommend this book to others who enjoy light, cozy mysteries with some supernatural elements. The added bonus of recipes from the bakery is a nice touch as well! They all sounded pretty yummy!
