Jan Drexler never fails to deliver a masterful historical Amish fiction story. Convenient Amish Proposal set during the Great Depression Era in Indiana will remind readers life hasn’t always been easy. Bethany and Andrew’s tale is one filled with resilient, courage, healing, learning to let go and faith. Adorable little Mari stole my heart from the beginning, just like Bethany falling in love with her. Andrew’s mother-in-law Rose, I wanted to tell her to mind her own business at times when she came to steal Mari back to Iowa. Andrew and Bethany had their struggles but when sickness hit maybe they could finally find a deeper relationship than their convenient wedding to provide Mari with a mother and Andrew with a housekeeper. There are other budding relationships within Bethany’s family which were all males which made this truly a historical romance. I look forward to reading more of Jan Drexler’s historical Amish books in the future.
I received a complimentary copy of this book at an Amish author/reader event in Shipshewana, IN. I was under no obligation to write a review but have expressed my own thoughts.
I just can’t say enough good things about this book! Jan has delivered once again with a story of marriage of convenience that is set in the Depression times. A time that my grandparents lived in. I can’t imagine how life was then after the stock market crash. I knew it had to be hard.
I loved this book from beginning to end and I highly recommend it.
This author knows how to deliver a powerful read with Amish and Historical mixed together with the right combination and will leave this book reader wanting more!! It will stay on my keeper shelf.
Rose reminds me of someone I know all too well. I perfectly understand why she did it but sometimes it’s hard to let someone else take control even when they know sometimes what’s best or think they know what’s best.
I loved dear Bethany and her family. She’s so very kind and patient! I wish I were more like her. I’m not a very patient person.
I actually found myself praying for Andrew and Mari lol even though I know they are characters in a book. Have you ever found yourself doing that?
I love a good story especially if it’s inspired by an author’s relative. I think it makes it even better because it gives us an insight to that author’s life.
I also believe grandmother’s are special. I lost mine in 2002. I still miss her to this day.
You will enjoy this book very much especially if you love Amish and Historical mixed together.
I strongly recommend this book! Jan is such an excellent writer!!
My thanks to the author for a complimentary copy of this book and NO compensations were recieved. All opinions are my own.
I think it’s absolutely amazing that Jan has a rich history like that. I will say, that since I’m adopted I have no idea who my relatives are. Maybe God has a reason for that I don’t know. All I know is that he’s mighty and wonderful and His ways aren’t always ours even when we think they should be.
Amish fiction and Historical fiction are just two of my favorite genres. A storyline with both? Well yes and thank you very much! I loved this book by Jan Drexler, she is the author of one of my all time favorite series which happened to combine Amish and historical fiction so when I started reading this book it was love at first page.
Set in 1934 this is the story of Andrew a widower who returns to his family farm with his adorable little girl, Mari. Bethany who is his childhood friend is still living on her families neighboring farm. I loved Bethany, her father and brothers immediately. Andrew has a meddling mother in law like none other I have ever seen. Rose thinks she can swoop in and determine the best course of action in the lives of Andrew and Mari and I have to say, Bethany is much more patient than I am for putting up with so much.
As a fan of a marriage of convenience stories this is one is so well written and has charming and less than charming (at times) characters and I have already recommended it to my sister and am now taking this opportunity to recommend it to other readers. I could not put this book down until I finished it so I ended up reading it in one day.
Overall, Convenient Amish Proposal is a book that I absolutely loved and when I read the authors note at the end of the book that this story was inspired by her grandmother’s life, I found myself loving it even more. Ms. Drexler’s writing is amazing, her knowledge of the Amish, the time period she chose and her character development are the reasons why this book will be on my keeper shelf.
