From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author K. Bromberg comes a new story in her Everyday Heroes series…
Control is something Desi Whitman abhors. Why live life in black and white perfection when you can messily color outside the lines?
But when she comes face to face with SWAT officer Reznor Mayne, he’s about to show her just how good control can feel.
Every 1001 Dark Nights novella … feel.
Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.

I’m a fan of the 1001 Dark Nights novellas and was excited to see a character I’d met in some of the Author’s other books featured here. The blurb really caught me and got my mind wondering as to where this story was going to go. Overall, I enjoyed it.
I really like Desi and I completely understood where she was coming from with her views on things. I like that she was a bit unconventional for a heroine. She’s smart and strong (that’s not unconventional, especially for this author) but that hint of vulnerability just pulled at me. It pulled at Rez, too. Watching these two circle each other had me smirking for sure.
You can feel the chemistry, and the confusion about it, from both of these characters throughout the book. I liked watching them try to figure out one another while still guarding themselves, only to realize that wouldn’t work. Their relationship was very satisfying to me.
This book was short and sweet, but still packed the emotional punch I’m used to from this Author. I enjoyed getting to know these characters and spending time with them. I would recommend this title.
Control is a novella in the Everyday Heroes series By K. Bromberg. It can be read by a complete standalone. If you did read Cuffed then you have already met Desi as Emerson’s best friend.
Desi doesn’t color inside the lines. She doesn’t see a husband, two-point-five children, and a picket fence in her future. She does see dogs though. She is after all the owner of Doggy Style Grooming. She believes dogs are more loyal than men. She doesn’t trust easily. She has her guard up. She doesn’t get attached. She does feel flutters. She doesn’t swoon. That was until she saw him. SWAT officer Renzor Mayne.
Renzor knew she was different from the moment he saw her. And when they spoke, he knew for sure, she was someone special. Someone who he wouldn’t get enough of, if he got just one taste. But, he also knew he only had six weeks in Sunnyville before going back to San Francisco.
Six weeks. Six weeks of sexual tension. Self defense classes. Haunted Houses. Flirty, fun banter.
Overall…I loved it. It is a novella but it felt like a full-length story. I felt the connection between the characters. The passion. They made me laugh, flush, and even tear up! It was definitely more than I was expecting.
Quotes:
You can only do so much with a sideways stare. But his voice. It’s like liquid sex with a rasp and a rumble and a whole earth-shattering orgasm in between. Hello to you, Mister A-Little-Rugged-And-Whole-Lot-Sexy.
“I don’t need to have mud on me to get dirty.”
“Aren’t you proud of me?” he asks.
“For what?”
“I came to the front door.” He flashes a lightning-quick grin.
“Good boy.”
“Don’t I get a treat?”
NO SPOILERS!
Control was a sexy and surprising standalone novella set in the Everyday Heroes world by K. Bromberg, and I really enjoyed it! The storyline and characters were great, and I loved the author’s writing style.
Reznor Mayne and Desi Whitman were wonderful, and I really enjoyed them and their story. I loved their personalities and red-hot chemistry together, and how most of their relationship progressed throughout. I also enjoyed reading Control from both Reznor and Desi’s point of view, and most of their banter and interactions with each other. Their story was different than I originally expected, but no less entertaining. The only negative was that I wanted more of everything. Control was a novella, so obviously I knew it wasn’t going to be full-length, but I still would’ve enjoyed more depth and detail with Reznor, Desi, and their relationship. However, Control was still an interesting and entertaining read from beginning to end, and I enjoyed it very much.
Control was another sexy and entertaining installment in the Everyday Heroes series, and I would definitely recommend it for fans of this series. K. Bromberg did a wonderful job with Reznor and Desi’s story, and I was happy with the conclusion. The Everyday Heroes series has been amazing, especially Cuffed and Combust, and although I’m sad to see it end, I can’t wait to read more from K. Bromberg!
I absolutely LOVED Desi and Reznor’s story! I found myself laughing out loud at times at the things happening in this story and the way Rez and Desi encounter each other. Desi is not at a place in her life that she wants a man. She’s trying to get over something that happened to her and move on with her life.
I ADORED the way in which he was enamored with her. He was strong enough with himself that she didn’t send him running for the hills. Their story had ALL. THE. FEELS. and I was completely captured by this couple. I didn’t want to put this book down.
One thing I enjoyed about this book, is that for 1,001 Dark Nights readers, they don’t have to have read the other books in the series. This book can be read by itself and I personally think it will make readers want to start at the beginning if this is their introduction into K. Bromberg’s writing. She has such a way with words that the reader can’t help but be lost in her worlds. I HIGHLY recommend this read!
Reznor Mayne….enough said!
This novella had everything you look for in one.
I mean, Reznor had everything you’re looking for in a hero.
Desi, I still love her quick wit and sense of humor.
I’m happy to have this chapter and giving Desi her love….
Can’t wait for what’s coming next from Miss Bromberg!
Reznor and Desi are going to have to give up the reins if they want to experience all that can be gained from losing Control. Reznor needed a break from his high speed life and some time away is just the ticket. Agreeing to teach a self defense class in Sunnyville was supposed to be something for him to do in his down time, but Desi Whitman is making it very hard to keep his heart rate down. Reznor Mayne is just the man Desi is taking classes from. After coming out the otherwise of her situation, she just wanted something to give some peace of mind, but he’s making it very hard to find any! Their battle of wills and test of stubbornness is classic KB and it will leave you begging for more.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book
4.5* I had to giggle when Desi and Reznor first meet. This is something I could totally see myself doing. Open mouth and insert foot and just keep digging that whole bigger and bigger.
Reznor is in town for a break from his high stress job and is helping to coach self-defense classes. Desi is taking that self-defense class and he just happens to be her coach. These two click right from the start and their attraction is off the charts.
I felt for both Desi and Reznor in this book. Would they both give each other what they both needed? Would one want too much and the other not enough? Would one give up their fear or would it be too hard for them to conquer?
I was excited to see Desi get swept off her feet here. In Kristy’s Everyday Hero’s series, she’s the fiercely independent BFF who doesn’t do relationships, so I thoroughly enjoyed seeing her swoon and feel the flutters for Reznor. Shoot, I swooned for Rez. Just thinking his name makes me want to fan myself. If you’re new to Kristy’s writing, Control gives you a taste of her dynamic characters, heartfelt storylines, and just enough steam to make you blush and think, “I shouldn’t be reading this in public!” I loved Desi’s hostility towards Rez and their banter; she’s my favorite kind of sassy character. Even more so, I loved seeing Rez chase Desi and break down her walls. I would not be upset if Kristy decided to give us more of the two of them.
“What is it, Desi, that makes you push me away when clearly you want me to stay?”
Control by K. Bromberg was a sexy, charming, and sweet novella packed with quite an emotional punch! I absolutely loved Desi and Reznor. There were scorching hot fireworks right off the bat and their banter was steamy with a little bite! I was entertained and charmed from beginning to end and I knew once I started, there was no setting this romantic gem down. This incredible, fast-paced, easy to read novella is set in Bromberg’s Everyday Heroes world so it’s possible that you’ve already met the feisty Desi. If not, no worries, because this can be read as a complete standalone, although, I will highly recommend practically anything that this woman writes. If you’re looking for a swoonTASTIC love story with all the FEELS, you must pick up this book and you must check out Bromberg’s backlist because you will NEVER be disappointed…only absolutely delighted and utterly entertained.
Control By K Bromberg is a novella that is part of the Everyday Heroes series. This may be a novella, but it’s got all the feels of a classic Bromberg novel, and in this story we see K Bromberg at her best.
Enter Reznor Mayne, confident and in control S.W.A.T commander in the city of San Francisco. After leading his team for years, he finds himself at a crossroads, questioning decisions he’s made in a particular call the team was involved in. Feeling the need to get away and recharge after the incident, he ends up in Sunnyvale as a self defense instructor. Just so happens his good friend from the police academy, Grant Malone is living in Sunnyvale, married with children.
Desi Whitman is a self assured and stubborn young lady. Working as a dog groomer, Desi lives her life with no regrets. Dating and no serious relationships are top priority for Desi, and hanging out with her bff Emmerson, who happens to married to the HOT Grant Malone!!! But not is all as it seems with Desi, she’s recently had a traumatic event happen in her life, which has caused her to become more closed off from everyone. She decides to finally take steps to combat the fear she’s feeling in the self defense classes being held in her home town of Sunnyvale!!
From the moment these two meet, the connection is palpable. Desi already in her mind assumes that Hottie Mctotty, is there waiting on someone from the previous class. She lets Reznor know in no uncertain terms what she thinks about the instructors teaching the self defense classes, never realizing that he soon will be her instructor, and her neighbor!!
Reznor is intrigued by the beautiful Desi. From the moment he meets her at the class, he knows Desi is hiding something. She’s been hurt by someone, and as they get know each other he’s determined to find out what happened to this charming and beautiful young woman. But Desi has her walls up, she’s doesn’t want help from anyone, especially Reznor. But Reznor wont’ be denied, he feels the heat simmering between them both every time their near each other. Desi feels it too, but she knows this is different with him, the need to loose control with him is unlike anything she’s felt before.
Bromberg gives us a compelling and captivating story, with characters you can connect with. With her words she has you emotionally invested in the well being of Desi and Reznor, rooting for them to push thru the obstacles that are in their way, and fight till there’s nothing left to give, just to be together!! Did I also mention the chemistry between these two is off the charts HOT, and she gives us one of the most erotic scenes I’ve ever read!!! Read this feel good novella, you’ll be so glad you did!!
I was very excited to read this story as I loved Desi in Cuffed and Ms. Bromberg did not disappoint. Desi is feisty and stubborn as ever and unfortunately she’s closed her heart at the idea of love and relationships. You can never go wrong with a hot SWAT agent and Reznor (love his name and it screams hot sexy man) is all that and more. He’s a sexy and protective alpha who is determined to win Desi over. Both are dealing with traumatic issues from the past and once they let their guards down, they were perfect for each other and their love helped them heal. I absolutely loved this couple.
Control is great novella with an engaging storyline that you don’t want to miss.
