Ronie Kendig has done it again!! Bigger, better than ever before. I’m in awe at her storytelling skills right now. First you need to know, Conspiracy of Silence, the 1st book in The Tox Files, is like Da Vinci Code meets Elisha’s Bones meets her Discarded Heroes series. It is that AMAZING! I had to read every single word, afraid I would miss something pivotal.
The history, fight scenes, romantic tension, all made for a page turning read. Seriously!! It was like normal Ronie Kendig writing after drinking an energy drink. And the leading man, Cole “Tox” Russell, who we met in The Warrior’s Seal (0.5 in Tox Files), is back from the dead…or at least that’s what everyone else believes.
He’s been called back because he’s the only one able to carry out the government’s mission. Of course, he calls in his team, Cell, Chiji, Ram, and Haven “Kasey” Cortes. Everyone in his team adds an intriguing layer to the story which must be devoured in one sitting!
*I received a free copy from the publisher. This review is my own, honest opinion.
Addictive!!! Once I started reading this book, I could not stop! Everything about it is fascinating. From Jewish history and archaeology to subterfuge and a life threatening virus, it’s one long adrenaline ride and I loved it! Kendig just gets better and better. She is a master at delving deep into story and creating characters that you will love and hate. I highly recommend this book to fans of contemporary military suspense.
NOTE: Be sure and read the prequel novella first! It’s FREE in ebook.
I was gifted a copy of the book with no expectation of a review. All thoughts are freely given and my honest opinion.
This book was action packed and a fun read. The hero was complex and a bit of a super hero. A real page turner
Thirst of Steel, book three in the Tox Files series by Ronie Kendig, is a brilliant and stunning conclusion to this military thrillers series. Mysterious and violent deaths of seemingly unconnected victims lead team Wraith to the deadly Arrow & Flame Order and to an ancient “rumor”—the dismantled sword of Goliath still thirsts for the blood of its enemies.
This most dangerous mission yet challenges the team more than any other, with much more at stake to them. Personal involvements present complications and risks, like none experienced before.
The intense, non-stop action and the enigmatic connection of Tox to David and the sword of Goliath hurtle the reader to a thrilling and dynamic resolution. I highly recommend Thirst of Steel and the entire Tox Files series to fans of military thrillers. I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Can I give this book SIX STARS?!?!?! What a thriller of a book!
It’s extremely well-written with a wonderfully tightly woven plot that merges the supernatural with history/historical legend and happenings recorded in the Old Testament, a hoard of fabulous characters, a heady romance, plenty of action, drama, intrigue, and mystery, and a good dose of faith thrown in!
Ronie Kendig really knows how to suck a reader in and not let go. She writes action-packed scenes that play out like a movie…then in the next chapter, goes deep into her characters’ pasts and emotional reserves to twist and churn the reader’s heart.
The melding of the supernatural (a carry-over from the prequel Warrior’s Seal along with more explanation), the passage from the book of Numbers in the Old Testament, and history/legend behind the most revered text of Judaism is absolutely breath-taking. The intricately-pieced details in the plot that all fall into place like a jigsaw puzzle in the end blew me away.
I really enjoyed the quiet but tangible Christian faith portrayed through Haven/Kasey, Chiji, and the professor. I also enjoyed the steady and unshakable faith of Ram, who supplied much of the history of Judaism.
Oh, goodness….and the characters!!! How can the reader not fall in love with Tox? He’s such a warrior, loyal to the core and yet such a little boy inside who’s been hurting for so long, just wanting approval and love. And Haven….a beautiful, sweet, constant, and patient woman who believes in Tox no matter what….and refuses to call him Tox, but always addresses him as Cole (his given name).
Throw in a fantastic set of secondary characters who completes the team hunting down an assassin and a cure for a virus and we have a book that can’t be put down. Tzivia, Ram, and Levi changed and matured throughout the book, which was a pleasant surprise since they’re not the main characters….and makes me wonder if these three will have bigger roles in the next book. And Chiji, Tox’s Nigerian “brother”, is such an awesome character. I would like to see more of him!
Truly this book kept me on the edge of my couch the whole time I was reading. Now I’m heading to The Crown of Souls, the next book in the series! Can’t you feel my excitement and anticipation?!?!?!
I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House Publishing via a Goodreads giveaway. I was not required to provide a favorable review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Riveting read! Complex plot, fast action, believable characters! Not only riveting in the boots on the ground account, but the weaving in of history and the softening of a heart that cares deeply but didn’t think could love. If you enjoy a heart-pounding military-type thriller, this novel is one to read.
Ms. Kendig is the Queen of Military Suspense! I enjoyed following Cole “Tox” Russell and his team as they hunted assassins and a cure for a deadly virus. It was so much fun visiting Israel and London. This story is non-stop, heart pounding action with a dash of romance.
I recommend this book to those who enjoy action-packed military stories.
I won a copy. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
I always love Ronie Kendig books, but I had a really hard time getting into this. I can’t read the first book Warrior’s Seal so I was so lost the first part of the book.
Once I got into it I really enjoyed it. I loved the characters and the story was awesome. 🙂
Military fiction isn’t normally my genre, but I enjoyed this fast-paced, story, the characters, the political intrigue, and biblical history. It reminded me of Mission Impossible and History Detectives rolled into one action packed roller coaster ride. I found myself immersed in the characters: Tox, Haven, Ram, Tszivia, Maangi, Thor, Cell, Levi, Dr. Cathay, etc. all who have distinct personalities and develop well as the story progresses. The story has completion, but there is plenty of intrigue, suspense and a dash of romance that sets the stage for the next book, which I have purchased and have already started. Conclusion: this genre and author are on their way to becoming a new favorite!
I had never read Ronie Kendig before when I picked up this book, and WOW, was I in for a treat! Tox drew me in instantly, and Kendig’s research on all the different aspects of government really shone through. And the romantic aspect was just amazing (I’m not a huge fan of romance, so the fact that I actually enjoyed this should count for something). The characters were realistic and entertaining. I immediately started the second book!!
Confusing. Hard to follow.
No I would not recommend this book
I have read majority of Ronie Kendig’s books, so I had a pretty good idea what I was in for when I picked up Conspiracy of Silence. I expected a strong hero who has a job or background in the military, strong heroine’s, a setting that takes place in other countries, and a plot that moves at all times. With Conspiracy of Silence, I read all of these things and was pleasantly surprised with how much I really enjoyed this book.
First, the writing is strong and concise. Kendig does a great job at inviting me into the setting in a foreign country and allows me to experience a different culture than I have ever visited. I really enjoyed how she stays in one character’s perspective at one time. She doesn’t confuse me at all. I feel like I am invited into their internal struggles and allowed to empathize with each individual characters.
As for the characters, I really enjoyed getting to know and understand Tox. He is a strong hero who has military skills that make him shine on the page. He gripped me from the first moment I met him. Tox cares about family and would do anything to protect his niece. Even though he can kill a person with his physical skills, he is still a deeply caring person. First, with the hint of romance with Tzivia, than with a blast from the past romance with Haven. Don’t worry! The romance is not the overarching story or takes away from the fast pace novel. It is a side note that deepens the characters.
The plot reminds me a lot of the Indiana Jones movies. It features a hunt for a Biblical artifact that has gone missing that could release a deadly plague on the world. It is fast pace, and Kendig does allow the characters and the readers alike to take breathers once in a while. Kendig’s ability to incorporate her research about the Aleppo Code into the story without boring me was an amazing feet.
While the story is original, it isn’t completely predictable, and I really can’t wait to see what the next book in the series holds. There really isn’t anything that I would shy away from. I believe teenagers would enjoy this book as much as any adult who loves adventures in their novels. Since the novel is a hunt for a Biblical artifact, there is a lot of mention of God, not preaching at the reader, but clues from the Bible to help Tox and his crew to solve the mystery. I believe fans of Kendig and Indiana Jones will devour this novel. I know I did.
With the hunt for a Biblical mystery, Ronie Kendig’s Conspiracy of Silence invited me into a new world of intrigue with relatable characters to experience a world I have never encountered. I really can’t wait for the next installment. Write faster, Ronie!
I received a complimentary copy of Conspiracy of Silence from Bethany House Publishers and Ronie Kendig, and the opinions stated are all my own
I really liked the prequel and the triology…i like Ronie Kendig’ development of characters and storyline…i like the fact she involves the readers into the story with the characters to the plot.
If you love Indiana Jones meets Jason Bourne…you’ll love Kendig!
Kendig delivers every time…Mystery, action, Special Forces, archaeology, romance…what a read!
I always know Kendig will catch me and keep me enthralled through the entire book. Conspiracy of Silence met every expectation. It had military suspense, Jason Bourne style, meets Indiana Jones, archaeology mystery, with a touch of romance. It took me to different parts of the world and made history come alive. It’s important to read the prequel “The Warrior’s Seal” to gain more of an understanding of this book. It is a quick, action-packed read and really brings this book to life.
Special Forces, Cole “Tox” Russell is pulled back into action after a tragic mission went wrong. Kasey Cortez steps in as an FBI deception expert and Tzivia Khalon is the archaeologist needed to find answers and a cure for a potentially worldwide epidemic. Can they work together and fast enough to stop this plague?
Jason Bourne meets Indiana Jones in this military, history comes to life novel. Archaeology meets modern-day world in this race to figure out a conspiracy of silence that could end the world.
I’m not giving anything away, but this is excellent for male & female readers!
I really enjoyed this book! It’s hard to find a good place to actually stop reading. I love these characters and the fast paced plot with settings around the world make this book a true page-turner.
Oh my! Conspiracy of Silence is full of intense, thrilling action with a suspenseful plot. The team members are loyal and have each other’s backs, even with a harsh history of being caught in the middle of politics and lies. Mistrust and misinformation brings a tension to the scenes as Tox must work with agency contacts and intel that is being fed to him piecemeal and objectives are changed mid-mission. Tox is a strong and determined character with highly skilled training, but he also has his share of flaws and emotional vulnerabilities- which made him more easy to relate to. I loved Kasey’s role as the deception expert, and her history of having an unrequited crush on Tox. She sees him differently than most, and has an innate sense for his real self under all the defenses (except when it comes to how he feels about her). Another great character in Tox’s life is Chiji, a member Tox added to his team after spending time with his family while exiled in Nigeria. His calming influence was needed several times throughout the story as Tox’s rage escalates. It’s interesting how he can keep his cool in all sorts of crazy dangerous scenarios but when his loved ones are harmed, he comes a bit unglued. The Biblical history of the artifacts, Codex, and secret societies are fascinating, especially as they tie in to the present-day war for power. I definitely recommend reading the free e-book of the prequel novella, The Warrior’s Seal, since it introduces the characters and gives details of the mission that is referred to several times in Conspiracy of Silence. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment in The Tox Files and learning more about the team members!
Highly recommend to fans of H.B. Moore’s Omar Zagouri series and Julie Coulter Bellon’s Griffin Force series!
(I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher; all opinions in this review are my own)
I hardly know where to start on this book review, this entire book was nail-biting, action packed, awesomeness from beginning to end! I’ve read almost all of Ronie Kendig’s books, and each new one just gets better!
In order to really get the feel for this book, you need to read the prequel, The Warrior’s Seal. Tox is a man of integrity who has been disowned and declared dead by the US. He agreed to this in order to save his team. Now the government is begging him to come back to help stop an assassin & a deadly plague, and he’s the only one who can do it!
Reading this book was like watching an action movie. It kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting to find out what would happen next. This story really just has it all-special ops, assassins, conspiracy, archaeology, romance, mystery, Biblical history, and so much more.
There is a Christian theme woven throughout the story, and the plague is tied to an Old Testament happening. The author has done a tremendous job at bringing this all together, leaving me eager to learn more about this time period, and these ancient artifacts. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher, but the opinions shared in this review are entirely my own.
Conspiracy of Silence was another non-stop action hit from Ronie Kendig. This book is Kendig at her finest. I was glued to the pages trying to figure things out and wondering how in the world it was all going to work out. I was traveling all over the world alongside the realistic, three-dimensional characters. My favorite was Chiji, but I loved getting to know the entire team and am looking forward to learning more about each one of them in future books. Cole ‘Tox’ Russell was a sure-fire, natural born leader and a great man of integrity. I highly, highly, highly recommend this book! It was awesome and I’m so ready for book two!
One of those books that you’ll get to the end, close it, and just sit there in your chair, your mind and emotions left reeling.
In this stunning, elegantly written conclusion to the Tox Files, Ms Ronie Kendig neatly ties up all her loose threads left from Crown of Souls and Conspiracy of Silence (COS & COS2), while still managing to introduce new characters for her readers to fall in love with. Or hate. Depending on which side they’re on.
In true Ronie Kendig form, the whole novel will keep you on your toes, with sudden twists you may or may not see coming. Following on the return of Leif in the previous book, he comes into the team with attitude and swagger, and it’s just fun to watch his interaction with Wraith.
There’s comedy, a la Barclay Purcell, drama, courtesy of basically everyone…and a touch of romance, thanks to a few couples. One thing I have always appreciated about Ms Kendig’s work is she’s able to keep things real, and the more tender moments never seem forced or just there for the sake of being there. It’s natural, and just as well written as the action scenes.
Overall, loved the book. Total rereading session coming up soon, and it will be the whole series. They’re all just that good. Massive kudos to Ms Kendig at writing another suck you in adventure!
