This is my second–third?–J.D. Robb book so obviously I haven’t read the series in order, but that doesn’t take away from the storyline whatsoever. Ms Robb does an excellent job blending past with present, or should I say future :), to bring us an exciting, mystery novel filled with captivating characters and enough realism to keep this reader on the edge of her seat.
Someone is killing the street people of New York City, otherwise known as sidewalk sleepers. The men and women who have fallen through the cracks of society and now survive on their wits alone. But that’s not enough to save them from the serial killer with a surgeon’s fingers and a heart of stone.
Lieutenant Eve Dallas is assigned the case, but comes up against a bitter enemy. One with the power to end Dallas’s career. Suddenly, she’s in the struggle of her life, not only to stop a murderer, but to save her badge and the very identity that makes her the person she’s become.
I can’t say what draws me to these books more, Eve’s tough exterior that she uses to cover the horrible memories of her youth, or her multi-millionaire husband, Roarke, who for all his riches, will do anything to protect the woman he loves more than life. And then there’s an outstanding cast of secondary characters, each with tales of their own, that add another layer to the In Death series.
Whatever the case may be, this will definitely NOT be my last Eve Dallas book!
I give Conspiracy in Death 5+ lovely kisses- A highly recommended read!
JD has created some of my favorite characters. I was glad to get this to fill in a hole in my digital collection, but I never miss a book in this series. Always recommending her, and am happy to say have “converted” a lot of people to her books! They all stand alone – but once you get started, you’re going to want to know how each character “came into the family”!
The “Death in…” series is excellent. Action-packed, can’t-put-it-down plot twists and turns holds true in each book. Amazing characters keep the action moving. I cannot recommend this series highly enough.
Love love love this series! Always fresh take and so entertaining that I am always counting down the months until the next book!!
I have read all of the “In Death” books, and loved them…this one was disappointing….couldn’t stay awake! Maybe next time pick another religion to be monsters!
I love all her books.
I finally read Conspiracy in Death by J.D. Robb, which would’ve been the August #InDeathReadAlong book. I would’ve read and finished it last month, but life got busy. Now, I think I can read September’s book without any issues. (Hopefully, I won’t be in another reading slump.) I’ve been listening to the In Death books, thanks to Scribd, while deep cleaning around my house. Audiobooks have been my life savior since I have my eight-year-old home with me homeschooling her.
My thoughts on the eighth book in the series:
1. J.D. Robb is a fantastic storyteller. I can’t say it enough how much I adore her stories in each of the In Death books. I love how she has the series set in the future, but I’ve repeated that before in my reviews.
2. Each book has Eve dealing with a new case and a new villain that continually test her physically and mentally. This time though, she’s dealing with someone that should be saving lives instead of taking lives.
3. Eve is determined to find out who is killing sleepers and thinks it’s something to do with the black market. She’s getting too close to finding out who is killing the sleepers and ends up finding out who can trust and not trust in this book.
4. Eve is a strong heroine, but we find out she is vulnerable, like the rest of us in this book. She’s stripped of her most outstanding achievement in life due to another cop that is jealous of her. I was not too fond of this other cop. Eve does have the support team that helps her, and of course, her husband Roarke is there for her the whole time. I love him so much!
5. I love how everyone comes together in support of Eve in this book. They will do anything to help her. Dr. Mira, Peabody, Feeney, McNabb, and several other characters step up to help her. Her most immense support is Roarke. Gosh darn it, I love his character!
Overall, this book receives five stars from me. I loved everything about this story and the case that Eve Dallas and her team dealt with within this book. J.D. Robb made it hard to figure out who was the actual villain in this story. She made me cry a couple of times in this book because of what Eve was going through. This was a tough one for Eve, and I felt everything she felt when reading it. I love books that make me think, and J.D. Robb did a fantastic job with this one. I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series.
If you haven’t read these books yet, then you need to do so now.
I love J.D. Robb. Her stories pull me in. I’ve been reading them for years and have really enjoyed watching the characters grow and develop. Love the settings.
Awesome book
I am obsessed with this series.
Nora Roberts aka J.D. Robb has a knack for writing good dialogue. I have read her books for years. Love them.

I have read all of her books.
A futuristic outlook at organ donation and rekindling of organs. A real page turner, trying to find out who is taking organs from sick/dying people. Several possibilities, read and see who is the killer really is. This one kept me reading, as usual.
As usual, anything written by Nora Roberts under her nom de plume, J.D. Robb, has both well developed characters and story. While this is not the best of her many “… In Death” novels it still meets all the criteria for a good murder mystery. And since it has been written by a noted romance writer, it continues the love story (complete with steamy passages) of Eve and Roarke, two of Nora Roberts’s/J.D. Robb’s best loved characters. If you’ve never read any of this series, but enjoy murder mysteries, or romances backed by an actual storyline, I suggest you check the “…In Death” novels out!
Love J.D. Robb and any of her books on Eve Duncan.
