We don’t get to choose our lives, we only get to live them as they’re handed to us.Mab wanted Tabby to get comfortable with life at the castle before being stressed with the responsibilities of Consort, but Prince Rowan’s timetable means some decisions must be made sooner rather than later.Mab’s a rip-the-bandage-off kind of Queen, which means Tabby and Rowan aren’t in for an easy time. Most … and Rowan aren’t in for an easy time.
Most people are terrified when they find themselves at the mercy of The Dark Queen.
Consort is book three in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy, and should be read in the correct order.

I always eagerly anticipate a new release from Candace Blevins and it doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s one of her urban fantasies, paranormal romances, or her safeword series, each and every story is carefully crafted and delivers on impact (pun intended) time and time again.
“Consort” is the third story that exclusively takes place in the faerie realm and it’s another decadent treat. Having read many of Ms. Blevins books (not necessary for this series), I’m already familiar with the Winter Queen and it was with great delight (I might have squeed) when I found out she was getting her own story in all her wicked yumminess. In story 3, Tabby is fully embracing her role as Consort and we have so much more internal thoughts from Prince Rowan as he embraces his life and all that he has to learn. And, so, so, so much more. This story left me breathless and eager for the conclusion.
As with all her books, Ms. Blevins delivers on her characters and the details that only she seems to write. And I LOVE THEM! “Consort” is book three in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy and it keeps getting better and better.
Wow, what a huge risk for Mab to take in this book with Tabby’s heart! I know why it had to happen but the how and what happened made for some exciting reading!
We see Mab’s reasoning on many things that she does and it gives depth to her actions that were heretofore unknown. Tabby may not know all these things about Mab but she sensed the depths were there.
Rowan learns so much about himself and why he needed to be better in order to be a good King. I’d have liked to see a little more about how he grew into his role but still enjoyed what we did see.
With all that we know now about Mab, Tabby, and Rowan, I am excited to read the next book. Tabby is really growing into being Mabs love and all that entails.
Absolutely spellbinding!
I’m not a “gushy” person, normally! But with this series I find it hard to stick to my ‘normal’ writing style!
What else can you call the progression of Tabby, Rowan and Queen Mag’s relationship, but a lush, sensual mixture of pleasure and pain that makes your body and brain hum with exitement?!
I can’t wait for and I dread the next part of their story, because it will be the last!
Oh, poor Tabby, she is emotionally and physically torn apart in this book. While she is completely unprepared for one, and craves the other, it overwhelmed her, and me, as a reader
Being a slave meant Tabby didn’t have to deal with feelings, and little did she realize in Lady, she was being trained as much as she was training Rowan. Never have to have processed, and move forward, with feelings, she still has so much left from choosing Mad over Rowan. It doesn’t help that after he is freed, she goes a long period without seeing him. Mab knows what is best for her little one though, and forces the situation. Tabby feels deeply for them both, and learns to live with what that means. Of course, by the end of the book, she is in turmoil again because of her feelings
Mab gives Tabby everything she needs, even when Tabby doesn’t realize she needs it. Upon being made Consort, Tabby thought she had to be graceful and perfect, because she was representing Mab in everything. It takes a lot, like a lot a lot, to get through to Tabby that she only ever needs to be herself, and helping her get there in the most painful of ways, is Mab
Rowan was wonderful, amazing, and perfect! He has learned his lesson, and recognizes he has more to learn. He knows his place, and where he is going. He misses Tabby something terrible, but recognizes he has a way to go. When reality presents itself, twice, to what he must do, he quickly adjusts his thoughts and plans to make it happen. Him and Mab working on things together is truly a masterpiece to behold
Tabby comes into her own in this book, with all the flaws, worries, and desires that come from having free will, and it was painfully beautiful to see!
Relationships change over time. Becoming close to someone and sharing experiences with them can create an intimacy which pulls a person away from the person they currently love. For Mab, she knows Tabby is the one she wants forever. Tabby thinks this is what she wants too. But when she learns about Prince Rowan and she’s already fond of him, how will this work? Rowan can be the sadistic Master she enjoys and he is someone who understand her in a different way due to his experiences. Their footing is also more equal than Tabby to Mab.
This is a complication in the story which may make a few readers feel twisted up and anxious. Mab’s relationship with Tabby is multilayered as it continues to mature and grow. Or more specifically, as Tabby’s beautiful butterfly wings emerge as she metamorphosis into a force to be reckon with, the way Mab relates to her changes. Tabby’s growth is truly an inspiration to witness. Ms. Blevins does a nice job of showing the difficulties Tabby struggles with as her position in the Fae world increases. Tabby is not power hunger. She is an insatiable pain slut who loves being under her lover’s power. Both Mab and Rowan fill that desire and it makes it difficult for all.
This story is more than relationship tangles and dark as hell kinky shenanigans. There is also personal growth for Rowan and changes for him. Their ever evolving relationship over time is nicely done in a concise manner. I have mentioned it before, and I will mention it again. Ms. Blevins does a bang up job when it comes to compressing time into meaningful chunks. Time flies and yet it doesn’t feel rushed. There is just the right pace so the important pieces to the story are delved into with more detail and emotion. The “time lapsed” writing is done in a way that gives a good highlight and doesn’t come across like a space filler. Ms. Blevin’s pace in this story helps bring closure to open threads and start new ones. I love it.
I am not going to provide any spoilers regarding the sex and kink scenes. Suffice to say, they are hard, intense and wince worthy. The kink is designed for those who revel in intense sensations and dark passion. Did I get arouse? Yes. Did I feel a bit disturbed that I was aroused? Not anymore. I’ve joined the dark side and since Ms. Blevins enticed me with much better things than cookies.
Just when I think this story can not continue anymore, Ms. Blevins throws in another subplot which looks to like it will bloom into the main plot for the next and final installment. This story ends in a fairytale manner and I can’t wait to see what happens after the happily ever after. This kinky fantasy is highly recommended to dark erotic readers who let their deviance roam freely.
*I received an advanced copy. A review was requested. I complied because I was bribed with rough hard sex… just the way I like it.
This is the 3rd story in the Darkish Faerie Tale, and just wow, how much happens throughout. We watch Prince Rowan grow as he learns from the Queen, if he is to be King he needs to learn how to be a good King. Tabby also has her learning points. She really goes through an emotional journey in this installment.
For me, what I really got was how much one person can love another, what they can and will do for that person to make them happy. One big hurdle for Tabby and Rowan was cohabitating for a week, they needed to make sure they could be comfortable around each other as he goes on to be the King. There are circumstances that prevent them from being a couple, won’t go into them as they may spoil parts of the story, but as much as it pained me to read those parts, I can humbly understand their viewpoints. That is another great reason I love reading Candice’s stories, she tells us the why’s and how’s.
And being a Candice Blevins story, of course there is kink, oh boy, is there kink. Lots of pain but lots of pleasure as well, very intense and highly erotic.
Remember that these installments have to be read in order, I cannot wait for the conclusion.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Oh my……..this book hit all the right buttons for me! So @$#%© hot. If you don’t like reading about S/m this is not the book for you.
Consort is a very emotional journey for Tabby, Queen Mab and Rowan. The learning curve is steep, but oh what a ride. Waiting patiently for the next one…..sort of
I seriously can’t guess, is there anything Candace hasn’t done yet in these series ???? what will she put in the last book ??? what ????
this one is screaming Candace Blevins to me, cause I have been reading here for soooo long, I know her favorite thing to write, what her muse craves, and this one book is just up her ally – as they say 🙂 its lovely, its brutal and it had me wincing with the best of them, but it was worth it. but its Candace and she makes it work, as if the “wincing” scenes are just the bonus you singed up for.
this book is great, can’t wait to see the finale, what she has up her sleeve for the grand finale. But I will say one thing (I mean revealing *hint, hint*) – this may be the first time, besides the Dragon king book that we get to see the other, dare I say, softer side of Mab and I’m loving it !!! I’m #TeamMab on this one
In Consort the now Princess Tabitha has new duties. Some are representing the Queen while others are her own responsibilities. Not to mention her studies in many subjects she will require to be the asset that Mab can depend on.
At the same time it’s a joy to watch the relationship grow even when Mab invites others in to play with them. One in particular becomes special first to Tabby, then to Mab so there’s the possibility of breaking Mab’s heart. I felt for all of them as they sorted through their feelings, one for another.
Mab’s devotion to her little one has her finding even more inventive sadism for her and it answers my curiosity about how much a masochist will take when in love and has the need to delight and satisfy their partner.
Ms. Blevins has depicted compelling characters that have fascinated me with their story more than I thought I would be and I’ll bet you will be too.
The third installment in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy is while dark is extremely hot. The fascinating relationship between Mab and Tabby keeps emotions running high and readers can’t help but keep turning the pages to discover what will happen next, especially as Rowen’s slave status draws closer to its conclusion. This means that that Tabby, Mab and Rowen will have to make life altering decisions sooner rather than later which adds to the anticipation building suspense of the story. Please note that this series is in no way intended for anyone faint of heart! There was no way I could put the Consort down until I had read every last page and I can’t wait to read Queen, the fourth and final book in this series.
