Vega just wants to finish her time and get home to help her parents. However due to events her time is extended. Along the way, she managed to make some real friendships. Even with all that is going on she remains a kind and decent person. I look forward to seeing what Vega, Amelie and Dax get up to in the next book.
Really enjoyed it and look forward to more. Very interesting story line.
I loved this book and I loved the team of Vega, Dax, Amalie, and Ethan! Yes, they are brilliant but they are also real people. Great story. I can hardly wait for the next one!
Disclaimer: I received an advance reader copy of this book with no strings attached.
Conscript by Pamela Stewart
Couldn’t put it down! Vega is a great, tough as nails character and the storyline had me hooked from the beginning. I listened to the audio version and the narration was well done!
Great sci-fi adventure!
I just finished reading Conscript: Space Opera Adventure (Star Defenders, Book 1) by Pamela Stewart and let me tell you, it was one wild ride. I was already sitting on the edge of my seat by the time I was 5% into the story. And the adrenaline increases from there.
The story centers around Vega Vilante, a planetborn crewman on the starship Lazarus. She and three new friends are in training while they face equipment malfunctions and sabotage, disciplinary action, tough training standards, relationship issues, betrayal, and imprisonment. It is up to them to save the day!
I appreciate the creativity that went into this world building. It is a little bit Ender’s Game meets Harry Potter with a strong female lead. The main characters all have their own distinct personalities and backstories, which makes for good reading when their opinions clash and also when romance blooms. The ship’s Captain and Commander are also stand out characters; I like the relationship between Vega and the Commander and how it grows and changes during the course of the book.
I found myself rooting for these characters and I want to know what happens to them next. I will definitely be reading about them in the next book, Star Defenders Book Two:Cadet.
Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A great space opera.
Conscript easily brings you into the worlds and ways of survival after our solar system can no longer support life due to the sun. Those in-training have distinct personalities, mysteries, and intrigues. The two main characters who are in charge are extremely different in personality, but you can understand how the commander serves the captain with her strong sense of duty.
There were some great surprises along the way – even ones I didn’t suspect, but they made sense! I loved the bonds that Vega makes and strengthens as the action and mystery continues to build throughout the story. (No spoilers, so I’m not going to name names)
Definitely looking forward to bk 2 and I hope that we get some questions answered while the team gets stronger together.

Wow this is a fantastic read. Its fast paced and epically written. This Author has brought a fantastic book to fruition and the characters are fantastic as well. They really bring out the characters. This to me is right up there with divergent. I definitely recommend.

This sci-fi is a page-turner! It has good world-building, interesting characters, plenty of action, and a bit of romance. Accidents are happening and they seem to always be around Vega Volante. When she steps in to help, her motives are questioned. It’s hard to make friends when everyone is against you, but Vega holds on to her inner compass and eventually builds a few lasting friendships. They want to make it into the Academy, but will they survive the rust bucket with all the strange happenings?
I received an ARC. This is my honest and voluntary review.
