#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER (February 2019) Lieutenant Eve Dallas fights to save the innocent–and serve justice to the guilty–on the streets of New York in Connections in Death, the gritty and gripping new In Death novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author J.D. Robb. Homicide cop Eve Dallas and her billionaire husband, Roarke, are building a brand-new school and youth shelter. They … building a brand-new school and youth shelter. They know that the hard life can lead kids toward dangerous crossroads–and with this new project, they hope to nudge a few more of them onto the right path. For expert help, they hire child psychologist Dr. Rochelle Pickering–whose own brother pulled himself out of a spiral of addiction and crime with Rochelle’s support.
Lyle is living with Rochelle while he gets his life together, and he’s thrilled to hear about his sister’s new job offer. But within hours, triumph is followed by tragedy. Returning from a celebratory dinner with her boyfriend, she finds Lyle dead with a syringe in his lap, and Eve’s investigation confirms that this wasn’t just another OD. After all his work to get clean, Lyle’s been pumped full of poison–and a neighbor with a peephole reports seeing a scruffy, pink-haired girl fleeing the scene.
Now Eve and Roarke must venture into the gang territory where Lyle used to run, and the ugly underground world of tattoo parlors and strip joints where everyone has taken a wrong turn somewhere. They both believe in giving people a second chance. Maybe even a third or fourth. But as far as they’re concerned, whoever gave the order on Lyle Pickering’s murder has run out of chances…

JD Robb is awesome! Love Dallas and Roarke.Stories are set in the near future with wonderful characters and a great on going romance that will knock your socks off!
Have read all the Eve Dallas books and it’s like meeting old friends again. Love her and Roark and all the mainstays.
This was an OK addition to the series. The case was a standard one which did not have a great deal of twists as compared to some of the previous books. I read it because I like the series but it was not one if the standouts.
Always entertaining, and with a twist.
I Loved it
CONNECTIONS IN DEATH by J.D. Robb is the 48th novel in the In Death series. I have read all of them and continue to be thoroughly entertained by this series. The novels are police procedurals with this one set in 2061 so they have some technologies that don’t exist today, but that is a minor aspect compared to the mystery contained in each novel.
The story takes place in New York City and the female protagonist is homicide lieutenant Eve Dallas. Eve and her wealthy husband, Roarke are building a school and youth shelter. When the brother of the child psychologist they have hired dies, Eve is called to investigate. The brother was an ex-gang member and drug addict that had been trying to turn his life around. Was his death an overdose or was it murder? With this scenario, the story accelerates. Robb has tackled several themes in this novel ranging from drug addiction to murder to gangs to family dynamics to protection rackets to illegal drug sales and much more.
It is always entertaining to spend time with Eve and Roarke as well as their friends and Eve’s colleagues. This novel brought in some new characters and some of the usual character interactions were missing or significantly reduces. McNabb, Peabody, Feeney, Nadine, Mavis, Trueheart, Baxter and others played minor roles in this story. Additionally, the resolution seemed a little too easy to attain.
For those that are not familiar with this novel, there is some language and violence as well as a couple of steamy scenes in the book. There is also humor within the novel including Eve’s interactions with Summerset. This is an engaging, intense and fast-paced novel and I look forward to the next book in the series.
I enjoyed this book very much. I always like J.D. Robbs stories. The writer keep you interested in the story. They have their steamy parts and keep you wondering what’s next.
Another excellent installment in the Dallas/Rourke series! Once again Dallas proves she’s a kick ass cop and this time Peabody steps up to kick ass level as well! Dallas takes on the gangs and has to figure out the mystery in a hurry before any more dead bodies pile up! Excellent character development wrapped in humor and wit while dealing with very serious and ugly criminal activities. Once again the supporting cast of pals steps up to really flesh out the story. The best part is that the reader on the audio books does an extraordinary job of helping bring the characters and storyline to life! I absolutely can’t wait for the next installment to come out!
This series just keeps getting better. Love Eve and Roarke!! Always have have great characters and well written love it!! Look forward to reading more of this series.
This In Death installment which I did enjoyed focused alot on addiction and gangs which I thoughts was interesting, the story line still had it’s murders with Eve solving the crimes, the suspense wasn’t intense as the norm but that’s ok since it seemed to fit with the story, Crack has a girlfriend, I loved that and I hope we hear more about Crack and Rochelle in upcoming stories.
can’t go wrong with jd robb
I will always love the In Death series, and will always read them when they come out. However, I am finding they are starting to drag a bit. The storylines are just a touch drab. It’s not necessarily that they’re being repeated, although after, what, 48 books you’d think they would overlap some. It’s more that the excitement is going. They seem to be getting shorter and way too predictable.
I truly do think it’s time JD Robb (Nora Roberts) maybe take a break from the In Death books. Let some time pass between them. Find a storyline that will thrill us again, keep us on the hook until we find out what happens at the very end. All those things that are missing now. While I do love Roarke (who doesn’t?), and will always love the personalities of Eve, Peabody, McNab, Feeney and the rest and there are so many to love in these books, I don’t want to reach a point where I cringe at the thought of another In Death book.
This one is about something close to any inner city’s heart; gangs. Eve and crew come across a murder that sparks a whole investigation into 2 separate gangs and all their affiliates. A little predictable in the way it goes. But I’ll leave that to each of you to decide.
I need more, Nora, or I guess I need a vacation from them. I’m sorry to have reached this point as I own and have read every single one of the books in this series, but here I am and I’m hoping your hear me when I say, keep the love alive by giving it time to come up with something fresh. Please.
I am a real fan of JD Robb. The stories and the characters grab you from the first page.
Love this series
I finish each of he rbook and am sorry I read so fast.
Then I have to wait for the announcement of the next one.
I own the whoooooole series!
I love all of the “Death” books! Great characters and storyline.
Anything by J.D. Robb is going to keep the reader rivited and wanting more.
I love how J.D. Robb keeps building her world, bringing in new characters, helping established ones grow, and keeping the reader turning pages with another intriguing futuristic police procedural. If you’re not yet a fan of the series, start with Naked in Death to get all of the delightful backstory and character development.
One of my favorite authors.
