From the bestselling author of Jurassic Park, Timeline, and Sphere comes a gripping thriller about the shocking demise of eight American geologists in the darkest region of the Congo. Deep in the African rain forest, near the ruins of the Lost City of Zinj, a field expedition is brutally killed. At the Houston-based Earth Resources Technology Services, Inc., a horrified supervisor watches a … horrified supervisor watches a gruesome video transmission of that ill-fated group and sees a haunting, grainy, man-like blur moving amongst the bodies. In San Francisco, an extraordinary gorilla named Amy, who has a 620-sign vocabulary, may hold the secret to that fierce carnage. Immediately, a new expedition is sent to the Congo with Amy in tow, descending into a secret, forbidden world where the only escape may be through the grisliest death.

I saw the movie several years ago and it was really scary. The book not nearly as much. It was a good read though!
Excellent reading. You certainly won’t get bored because of all the suspense and good and scary writing.
The book started great, but the ending felt rushed and without detail
Well, it’s kind of a classic now. Not his best but better than everybody else
Michael Crichton’s books are head and shoulders above most thrillers. This particular book is good, and worth reading, but not one of his best. It’s a bit discursive about emerging electronic technologies, and for its time was quite foresighted. But it would have been improved by reducing the technical content and speeding up the narrative. His writing got better with time.
From an outstanding author at the peak of his career.
I read this many years ago, but it is still one of my favourite Crichton books!
I’ve read everything I could find by Michael Crichton since the novelization of West World. Congo is one of the best of the lot.
Not as epic or well-written as works like Jurassic Park. I feel like he tried too hard to make this interesting but ran out of energy. The first half is a bit slow and has too much scientific jargon, but picks up quite a bit in the second half. Some of the human characters don’t feel well written and the author has to keep pointing out their personality flaws/traits over and over again as for-shadowing to something bad happening later. The build up was well done but the ending felt rushed and abrupt.
Read this long ago, so obviously not in digital form, but it’s another Crichton classic.
Starts strong and imaginative with toms of potential but slows to a somewhat predictable ending
This story is a chilling and one of my favorite reads. Suspenseful, scary, great characters and a definate page turner.
I found it enjoyable but not one of my favorites.
Great. The author’s extensive research turned an otherwise flimsy tale into a very good story. It holds together from beginning to end.
Very original. Hard to put down.
