“The hilarious dialog and tension between Savannah and Rafe will delight fans of chick-lit mysteries and romantic suspense.” Jo Ann Vicarel, Library Journal
Savannah Martin has always been a good girl, doing what was expected and full expecting life to fall into place in its turn. But when her perfect husband turns out to be a lying, cheating slime ball – and bad in bed to boot – Savannah kicks … boot – Savannah kicks him to the curb and embarks on life on her own terms. With a new apartment, a new career, and a brand new outlook on life, she’s all set to take the world by storm.
If only the world would stop throwing her curveballs…
Savannah is delighted to be back in her hometown of Sweetwater, surrounded by family and friends, even if it’s only temporarily. The house in Nashville is in the process of being repaired after the fire. Baby Caroline is alive and well and getting bigger every day. And Rafe is all recovered, and is working for Tamara Grimaldi and the Columbia PD, at least for the time being. That could change, but for now, Savannah’s content.
There are flies in the ointment, however. Savannah’s best friend from high school is back in town, and seems to be setting her cap for Savannah’s brother Dix. Savannah has been rooting for Dix and Tamara Grimaldi to get together, and this new development doesn’t make her happy. Sure, she loves Charlotte… but Charlotte already has a husband, and shouldn’t need another one. She especially shouldn’t need Dix, not when Savannah wants Grimaldi to have him.
And then there’s the case Rafe is working on. Katie Graves was a teenager when she disappeared fifteen years ago. Now she’s back—or at least her remains are. And the evidence in what looks like a case of homicide points squarely to one of Savannah’s nearest and dearest. With another Martin on the hot-seat, and Rafe and Grimaldi duty-bound to serve the law, it’s up to Savannah to keep her family safe and out of prison.

When I crave a fun read, I read this series. Unfortunately, I’m all caught up on it now, and I have to wait for each new book to come out. Bummer! But this book was especially fun. I kept wondering how Savannah could be her usual nosey self when she was carting a baby carrier around, but I should have known. She manages quite well:) And the romance/lust between Savannah and Rafe still sizzles (even though it’s all offscreen). I especially liked that Savannah and Rafe worked together to solve this crime, and Rafe got to show how talented he is in his scenes. He asks astute questions and keeps Savannah on a level keel and gets REALLY aggravated with her when she does something especially stupid. This, so far, is one of my favorite books in the series.
Reading a Savanna Martin Mystery is like spending the day with a friend a very nosy friend with the hottest husband one can imagine, but still a friend. Jenna Bennett builds her mysteries into the realistic life of Savannah, Rafe and their friends. While few people would choose to investigate murder, if feels normal in Savannah’s life; it is the every day activities Ms. Bennett includes that draw me back and that make the stories seem so plausible.
In Conflict of Interest, the couple and baby Carrie have moved to her hometown while their seriously burned home in Nashville is being repaired. Rafe, who has taken a short- term job with Grimaldo, the new chief of police, is working with the sheriff’s department to investigate the murder of a teen from the time they were all young. The bones have just been identified so the case is both new and old while all of the evidence, what little there is, is 16-years old. No one seems to have known the victim well, but someone in the Martin family has a close connection that leads to unwise choices and the suspect list. For the 17th time, I love this book.
Well, it’s taken me a while, but I’m finally getting back to one of my favorite book couples. Conflict of Interest is book seventeen in the Savannah Martin Mystery series, one of my favorite series of all time. I don’t have an excuse except that I tend to hoard things I really enjoy and so I downloaded this when it first became available and have been saving it to read. Don’t judge.
Savannah and Rafe are back in Sweetwater, TN, living in Savannah’s childhood home. Their house in Nashville is undergoing repairs after a fire destroyed a good portion of it. Rafe is working with Tamara Grimaldi on the Columbia police force to help her root out potential problems on the force. Although, he is currently “on loan” to the Maury Co sheriff, Bob Satterfield, as the chief investigator on a possible homicide after recent bones are discovered on the Skinner’s property. Rafe had investigated the murders of the entire Skinner family just a few months ago and now there have been bones from a fifteen-year-old cold case that have been discovered on the property. Could they be connected? When Savannah’s sister, Catherine, becomes a suspect you know that there is no way Savannah can keep her nose out of it. Catherine couldn’t have done it, but it turns out she had motive and opportunity. Everyone knows that Catherine would not have committed murder, but her actions, past and present, continue to say otherwise. Now, Savannah is on a mission to prove her sister’s innocence. And, to find out who really committed murder. The problem is that her husband is the chief investigator and she has to tread lightly. Can she do that? Will she make matters worse for Catherine by getting involved? Will she make matters worse for Rafe? Hey, this is Savannah…chances are likely she will make things worse, on all counts.
If you’re a fan of the Stephanie Plum series, you really need to check out Savannah Martin. It’s better!
Another great Savannah and Rafe adventure. Always fun to visit Sweetwater.
I just love the Savanna series! Well done! It was a great read.
