Nate Harvie. Being a twenty-two-year-old, MMA fighter has its perks. His days are filled with a never-ending rotation of free booze, good drugs, and easy girls. Life is good—well, it was until the night he broke his cardinal rule and let Amy get too close. Now, he wants things he shouldn’t—things he can’t have unless he tells the truth.
What should be a brief encounter that scratches a mutual itch grows into so much more before either of them realises. Amy becomes worried about Nate’s worsening behaviour and, before she knows it, she’s facing a choice—stick around and help him or return to the safety of the lonely life she was previously sinking under?
Conflict is the second book in the Black Hearts MMA series by Kylie Hillman. This is a heart-wrenching tale of fate – where a damaged man might have found his forever in the arms of a woman who thought she’d lost hers.
*Non-cliffhanger, full length novel. Can be read as a standalone, however Conflict does contain some spoilers for Brawl, Black Hearts MMA | Book One*

Conflict has finally arrived people!! I have been patiently waiting for this book to drop and I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the direction the author took this book. I loved Amy and Nate together. They just seemed to fit so well. Two souls, broken in different ways, using each other as an anchor to the shore of life. This book just got to me. There was one scene in particular with Nate that just brought tears to my eyes. It showed just how vulnerable he had made himself, but was completely unaware until that very second.
Amy has suffered. A tragic accident left her with a huge hole in her heart, that she has spent two years trying to conceal. she has adopted so many different faces to hid her pain, it is now second nature to her. Desperate to get back to the old Amy, she takes a risk, which comes in the form of a 22 year old MMA fighter who is gorgeous on the outside but little does she know is a emotional time bomb inside.
Nate needs Amy. She is the perfect counterpoint to his wayward personality. She gives him focus and direction, removing the fog from his brain so he can concentrate. Nate is easily thrown off balance and does not deal with stress very well, so to put himself in an extremely stressful situation with hard choices to make does not bode well for Nate. A downward spiral is inevitable.
Their struggle is real, life is not easy at the best of times, but when you are battling demons on the inside as well it makes life just that little bit harder, so to have a partner in your corner for support, especially one with similar demons takes the edge off and makes life just that much easier to bear. Someone to love you, even at your worst, who won’t let you give up or give in, that is what Amy and Nate have, they have carved out their little piece of heaven together, that is something to cherish.
WOW loved this. Nate & Amy story. All confused up with Gabbi and Hooligan. Nate and Amy both have considerable baggage to contend with before they can really embark on any relationship. I did not want to give the game away here but be prepared for an absolute roller coaster of emotions with both Nate and Amy and some pretty hot scenes between them as well. The icing on cake is in the epilogue- I’m saying no more
Real, emotional, heavy and completely absorbing, I am so in love with this story.
This book was such an emotional ride you can feel literally feel the emotion poured in to this story. Nate and Amy’s story is not an easy one, they each carry there own demons and pain but I couldn’t help but hold out hope that these two find happiness.
Kylie Hillman has outdone herself with this book. I was already a huge fan of this author but this book is just something special.
FANTASTIC!!!
This is Nate and Amy’s story. He’s an MMA fighter who thrives on conflict. She’s a widow, having lost her husband and unborn child in a tragic accident. Can these two broken souls come together and heal each other? Kylie takes us on an incredible journey through the struggles of mental illness and the road to healing with this fantastic story. I absolutely loved it.
Conflict follows Brawl and certainly continues the story well but at the same time is a separate storyline in and of itself.
Nathan or Nate Harvie is a twenty-two year old young man who should have the opportunity to be a professional MMA fighter..should being the focal word. Amy is a twenty-eight year old woman who is a widow with a three year old son, trying valiantly to move on with her life. This story is quite potent in more than one way but then again this author is known for making readers really think and she definitely does tackle the hard issues so well.
Another thing about this author is the way she creates visual images using words and expressions, using them to show readers clearly what the mood is like in each scene, for example when Nate describes why he broke Hooligan’s confidence about Gabbi…’as much discrimination as a seagull chasing a chip.’ This perfectly explains what Nate’s like without his medication plus has a sense of fun which helps balance the heavier issues.
My heart absolutely breaks at times for Nate and what he goes through, it certainly is an eye opening look at this condition and explored so well. Having taught many children with the same diagnosis it isn’t until reading this story that I can truly say I have had a peek at the other side. Amy is an extremely likeable character too and one so suited to Nate, their chemistry is very real and very combustible.
Another entertaining story by this talented writer.
