With behind-the-scenes stories from the set, as well as tales from her bohemian upbringing in West Hollywood and her headline-making advocacy work on behalf of HIV awareness and abused … awareness and abused children, Confessions of a Prairie Bitch is a must for fans of everything Little House: the classic television series and its many stars like Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert; Gilbert’s bestselling memoir Prairie Tale… and, of course, the beloved series of books by Laura Ingalls Wilder that started it all.

This was a fun book that I loved. This girl from the quirky, dysfunctional family, developed a wonderful family with the characters on this show. She describes and lives with the behind the scenes actors on this show. Very entertaining but sometimes serious and sad. At the end, she prevails, moves on and makes the world a better place along the …
I enjoyed this book. I have always been a Little House fan and enjoyed the behind the scenes stories.
Great book, lots of behind the scenes info
Better than I expected.
this is an interesting behind the scenes view of a very popular television program i remember well.
Informative read that is often humorous, yet has personal memories of tragic childhood events. Yes, it is one person’s point of view – but worth the time to read that point of view.
Entertaining and finding out about other characters. Good read.
Alison is a wonderful writer. The book is simply fantastic!
If you were/are a fan of Little House on the Prairie TV show, this is a lovely book to read. Loved to learn about Nellie!
I really liked this book – unlike other “Hollywood” recounts, this one is fresh and upbeat. And I was never a rabid fan of the TV series ….
She does a good job of letting you in on the real people from the show. Doesn’t bash anyone but also doesn’t portray them as saints. Next I am going to read “half pints” to see how they compare.
Very interesting. Funny . Insight into the world of child actors
Totally delightful and entertaining autobiography. Alison has survived unbelievably difficult circumstances and has kept her soul and humor together. Her voice is intelligent, hilarious and has very insightful perspective. I want her to do a volume 2 in a few years.
Did not know what to expect, super glad I read! Perfect for snow days or beach read.
A lot of the F-word and shocking in some parts but very interesting.
Enjoyed her writin, but not necessarily the language. No real need for it in mu opinion. She had a hard life but she shows how to be strong and survive. Good book, not for teens though.
Gives a look into television series creation and some of the people involved. Doesn’t assign feelings to anyone other than the author. From soul crushing abuse as a child to gaining sense of self and control over her own life to involvement with organizations helping those who had little or no resources for their own suffering.
Insightful, open memoir about the good and the bad in her life.
Alison Arngrim’s book is a combination “behind-the-scenes” look at Little House on the Prairie and a story of her overcoming a challenging childhood to become a strong advocate of survivors of AIDS and childhood abuse. She has a great sense of humor, and comes off as smart and fun to know.
