Confessions of a Prairie Bitch is Alison Arngrim’s comic memoir of growing up as one of television’s most memorable characters—the devious Nellie Oleson on the hit television show Little House on the Prairie. With behind-the-scenes stories from the set, as well as tales from her bohemian upbringing in West Hollywood and her headline-making advocacy work on behalf of HIV awareness and abused … awareness and abused children, Confessions of a Prairie Bitch is a must for fans of everything Little House: the classic television series and its many stars like Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert; Gilbert’s bestselling memoir Prairie Tale… and, of course, the beloved series of books by Laura Ingalls Wilder that started it all.

For those of us who grew up with the Little House books and TV show, it was interesting to learn more about the show and the actors in it, especially the author, who played Nellie Oleson on the show.
If you watched little house on the prairie, this is a must read book!
As a superfan of Little House on the Prairie since childhood, I loved all the behind-the-scenes dish about the show and learning about the talented actress who played bad girl Nellie Oleson so well. Rarely have I read a memoir that is as entertaining as this one. Ms. Arngrim is an amazing storyteller who had me hanging on her every word. Whether …
I laughed, I cried, then I laughed some more!
Fabulously written, a perfect mix of humor, life lessons, and unfortunately, heartbreak. An emotional ride, one that allowed me to experience behind-the-scenes tidbits of one of my favorite shows growing up while also being let in to extremely private and gut-wrenching moments in the author’s life. My …
Nice change of pace, enjoyable
As a Little House fan (I mean, come on, my name is Laura, I’m a brunette, and I grew up into 1970/80s) I bought this book as soon as I saw pouting Nellie on the cover. That bitch…
Turns out, I LOVE this bitch. Allison Angrim is an incredible person who has worked tirelessly for AIDS patients and sexual abuse survivors. The bitchiness she …
Very funny and entertaining. I love how Alison kept her sense of humor in spite of the trauma in her life.
This book wasn’t funny at all. It didn’t seem to follow any timeline. It jumped all over the place and seemed like a patched together bunch of memories that didn’t relate to one another. And the memories were not very interesting. The stories she writes of her life on and off set lacked details and color. Very bland and matter-of-fact. Nothing …
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Alison Arngrim made everything very easy to picture. I highly recommend!
Interesting behind the scenes look at the actress and Little House production. As a long time fan it was entertaining.
I enjoyed this book, didn’t love it though like I thought I would. I admire Alison for surviving a difficult childhood, but I found her to be a bit annoying. Lots of fun “behind-the-scenes” tidbits, made me want to watch the series again and see if I can spot some of the things she mentioned. I would recommend this book, but only if you were a …
Loved the book, a glimpse into a life and a show we loved. Thanks for the memories
Really interesting account and back-story of a favorite tv villain of my childhood.
This is the best celebrity autobiography that I have read. Ms. Arngrim deftly mixes the course of her life with the story of her activism. She combines stories of her time on the set of Little House on the Prairie with stories of her home life to clearly portray the woman she became. She does not feel sorry for herself (which one could easily …
This book was so much better than I expected. Glad I read it.
LOVED IT! Growing up in Hollywood, I enjoyed reading about many familiar places and people. It was entertaining, funny, and uplifting. Gave me an appreciation for how the author handled life as it came to her and her manner of turning it into a benefit. She’s a glass half full type of person with a lot of humor thrown in.
Allison Arngrim gives readers and lovers of “Little House on the Prairie” such a textured and thorough autobiographical look at her crushing background, entry into show business, then her casting in the role of Nellie Oleson, the devious, arrogant brat who plagued Laura Ingalls throughout the series.
This is truly a behind the scenes look — not …
I really enjoyed reading all the behind the scenes details.
A fantastic memoir, beautifully written, very informative, and truly inspirational.
Well-written. I like the author’s style and honesty. She’s a likeable person and it would be fun to know her. The book kept my interest the whole time and it was a surprise to know of her life as a comedian and activist!
