As a reader, I wonder about the purpose or need for a prequel, but then I read a book like Confessions From The Heart by Markinson, and it makes sense. It is like having a history lesson. You get an in depth, up close look at the characters, rounding out your understanding of their personalities.
Cori Tisdale is a woman who appears on the outside to be confident and sure of herself, but keeps her heart wrapped up tight, until she meets Kat. Markinson is very skilled at giving her characters just the right sense of humor, making the dialogue flow, oh so smoothly.
I love the family dynamics, the development of Cori’s mother, Nell and her sister Barb and the extended family history that influences Cori’s view of relationships. She keeps her secrets and her heart tucked far from the reaches of anyone who wants more from her family, than from a relationship with her. Love is an illusion for her, other than the kind of love she has for her friends. I must admit I was almost expecting a different ending with Cori and her BFF, Annie, but was pleasantly surprised. You will find yourself pleasantly involved in this story from page one, all the way to the end…and happy to go back and read Books 1 and 2 of the series.
T.B. Markinson created a wonderful beginning to what I am sure will prove an incredible series with this novel. Lori Prince does an outstanding job with the narration. Cory and Kat provide the main characters but there are no insignificant players in this novel. The characters are surely believable and engaging. The relationship issues among all of them are developed in such a intertwining way that this is one of those audio books that is hard to pause. There are equal measure humor, sensuality, conflict, compassion and meddling. I would include that there is intimate activity that is hot….just saying. I would suggest this novel to anybody looking for some fun, angst and feisty lesbian behavior.
This book was engaging and quickly grabbed my attention from the first chapter. It made me laugh. It made me cry. It took me through a lot of emotions. The characters are well established, and well-rounded and I love a happy ending. This was a slow burn that gave enough background on the two main characters so that you see how they interact with each other and threw in a few surprises along the way! I totally recommend this book and can’t wait to read the sequel. I have already picked up more from this author.
Good prequel to the other 2 books. Highly recommend all 3 in this series.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. I picked it up and three hours passed in the blink of an eye! Good read.
This reminded me of Seinfeld TV shows. You like the characters but nothing much goes on. There is no real plot other than the daily goings on of the characters. This book is a prequel about how the two main characters met and fell in love. It was good. There are two other books the author wrote first. They are also the same type of writing style. I read the other two books also and give three stars for all three books.
I loved this book – it was great. More wonderfulness from T.B. Markinson!
