Garrett Goodlove used to be an arrogant criminal defense attorney with a drive to win at all costs. But a pair of tragic events threw him into a bottomless depression, and he retreated into the practice of family law. Now, he tries to settle cases in ways that make everyone happy. He’s a nicer person, but has he lost his edge? His kinder, gentler life is disrupted when the police arrest his … his estranged twin sister, Carly. She’s accused of shoving her husband off a cliff into the storm-tossed Pacific Ocean. Worse, the vicious detective on the case has a grudge against her and has vowed to send her to prison even if he has to cheat to do it.
Carly, deaf since birth, refuses to be defended by anyone other than her twin brother. But the intense connection that binds the siblings tells Garrett that she may not be revealing everything she knows. If Garrett can’t keep this new stress from pushing him back into depression, the defense will fail, condemning his sister to an isolated life in prison, cut off from the deaf community she needs.

A good read. Enough action to keep you in the loop. Realistic enough to hold your attention.
I really enjoyed this book!
Well done! Read it in one sitting. Will pass it on to my husband who is too picky for much of my reading fare. I loved the characters (flawed but not stereotypical) the plot, the background, the detail., Everything. The only reason for 4 stars is that I figured it out. But getting to the end was great reading.
I liked it but language offended me. Not necessary.
I thought this was a great book, it had real characters in it That were believable and it was a good story a happy story not full of gratuitous sex and violence and the bad word. I just really liked it
I gave it five stars. Great read, twisted plot, good to the end!
Excellent plot of a murder mystery and trial. It kept your interest and was entertaining.
This book featured a deaf character. There was a lot of information about sign language.
Unusual characters but the plot was a bit strained.
Very enjoyable book with fun characters and excellent detail.
Enjoyable and the main character is a character…
Just a relaxing good read!
Very enjoyable courtroom drama with original, relate-able characters. I was more than happy to suspend belief on some of the more unlikely scenes due to the snappy dialog and intriguing plot twists.
Learned a lot about being deaf while enjoying a good read
A good legal thriller…lives up to its categorisation…
I think that dialogue is difficult to write and this author writes dialogue that is believable and entertaining. The characters are likable and you want to find out what happens. The trial portion is very interesting; the courtroom scenes come to life.
It has been awhile since I have read legal thrillers and this one left me wanting more of the same.
I love a good “Perry Mason” story, and enjoyed this one, along with the reference to him in this book. This is the first I’ve read of this author and will definitely read more. My attention was caught the entire time, no boredom, no fillers, nothing too outrageous, lots of smiles as well as trying to figure out what happened. I also really enjoyed learning some American Sign Language!
Good legal thriller
I would give this book 3.5 stars if that you were an option. He’s a lawyer, so smart, right? He’s had some tragic events happen and he lets his smarts go out the window. Gets tangled up with a women he’s in court against – seems like a dumb thing to do…
