Garrett Goodlove used to be an arrogant criminal defense attorney with a drive to win at all costs. But a pair of tragic events threw him into a bottomless depression, and he retreated into the practice of family law. Now, he tries to settle cases in ways that make everyone happy. He’s a nicer person, but has he lost his edge? His kinder, gentler life is disrupted when the police arrest his … his estranged twin sister, Carly. She’s accused of shoving her husband off a cliff into the storm-tossed Pacific Ocean. Worse, the vicious detective on the case has a grudge against her and has vowed to send her to prison even if he has to cheat to do it.
Carly, deaf since birth, refuses to be defended by anyone other than her twin brother. But the intense connection that binds the siblings tells Garrett that she may not be revealing everything she knows. If Garrett can’t keep this new stress from pushing him back into depression, the defense will fail, condemning his sister to an isolated life in prison, cut off from the deaf community she needs.

Good read!
Very entertaining
loved this book & this author
This is an interesting legal defense with a defendant accused on pretty flimsy evidence; but shows you how easily that could happen to you. Entertaining quick read.
I recommend this book! I cannot wait to read more from this author! The easy-to-read prose of his book and the entertaining and inspirational characters were perfect; very helpful during this pandemic.
Well written, entertaining.
This was a great read from an author I wasn’t familiar with. Will be looking for more.
Absolutely fantastic!!! If you like legal books, you’ll love this one. Well, you’ll probably love it even if you don’t like legal books. Tremendous!!!
Somewhat predictable.
I enjoyed the characters in this book and the glimpse into the world of the deaf that was portrayed. The plot moved quickly and had some twists and turns. I thought it was an enjoyable read.
Another Al Macy keep-me-up-at-night thriller!
GREAT READ!
I don’t usually go for legal dramas but this one was pretty good. It’s funny, in the book, the author writes about the MC (who is a lawyer) doesn’t like to bore the jury because that’s when you lose them. The same can be said about me and legal dramas.
Sooo many of them are sooo boring because the author gets bogged down in legalese and legal strategies that they have me DNF halfway through the book. This one didn’t do much of that, which can be part of why I finished it – that it’s just a plain good story.
Definitely had some plot twists. Character development was a bit incomplete…maybe they are flushed out in latter books. A pretty simple read, but satisfying for the intrigue.
Great read
As much of my work is in the legal field as an expert witness I’m always interested in books about legal cases. This one kept me reading. The fact that the accused was deaf added a new layer and provided a little insight into the world of a non-hearing person. A good story.
Good characters. Different plot.
It proves you can always find the truth if you try. I liked the fact that you can learn more about the world of the hearing impaired and the troubles they can have that are unique. It was good to see them in a different light than what one can perceive.
This has a definite twist on the characters that I found so interesting. He did a good job pointing out legal aspects of the case. Really liked it.
I couldn’t put this book down once I started reading it. I really got into the characters and changed the verdict I’d give a few times during the book.
Very interesting book
Different than I predicted
