~~ 4 EXHILARATING STARS! ~~
“She’s everything I ever dreamed of having, everything I’ve never been allowed to touch.”
Skye Warren DAZZLES once again in this second stunning installment in her North Security trilogy!
PREMISE:
Allowing brilliant violinist Samantha Brooks to leave the shelter of his arms to embark on a global tour was the hardest thing that Liam North had to do, but the 18-year-old child prodigy was always a star that was destined to shine impossibly bright. But alas, his former ward may be coming into full bloom as she takes the classical music world by storm, but that does not eradicate the gnawing ache of loneliness she still has for the tall, dark and ruggedly dangerous guardian turned one-time lover who raised her as HIS since she was a young orphan. But in truth, Liam is never far away, always lurking in the shadows, watching over his precious Samantha in the event that the danger that’s always dogged her finally strikes. And when it does…HE. WILL. BE. READY.
However, when their fates and destines collide once again, neither is prepared for the firestorm of heat and passion, secrets and subterfuge, terror and treachery that’s about to reach a shattering crescendo! Liam has spent years protecting his pure-hearted beauty from his mortal enemies, but as the stakes keep rising, will his single-minded determination to slay all her dragons destroy them both in the end?
MY MUSINGS:
CONCERTO played out a like a majestic symphony that stirs the heart and crucifies the soul!
If book one was the prelude, well then, this second installment is the GLORIOUS main act. And when the curtain rises prepare to be completely and utterly transported into a world brimming with glitz and glamour, forbidden, soul-burning lust and a plethora of spine-tingling twists and turns that will leave you on the edge of your plush velvety seats!
“The moment her lips touch mine I’m suffused with music, thousands of notes that she’s played for me, a million heartbeats.”
Skye Warren’s vibrant, lyrical narrative intoxicates the senses, and I was once again transfixed by the manner in which she weaves classical music so integrally throughout this exhilarating love story, giving us a multi-tiered, masterfully crafted plot that’s darkly seductive and thrilling sensual, rich in sophistication and grandeur, and teeming with electrifying emotion and breathtaking suspense!
I fell head over heels for Samantha and Liam in book one but just as their connection soared to dizzying heights in this second book, so did my hopeless devotion to them! And if you thought the smoldering sexual tension bubbling below the surface was hot in OVERTURE, well you ain’t seen NOTHING yet because the high voltage chemistry between this fiercely enamored duo was off the charts this time around!
And the character growth throughout this book was beyond fantastic! First we have Samantha, the former musical prodigy turned world-class violinist, who is blossoming from an innocent young girl to a full-fledged woman before our eyes. While she still retains her sweet, kind-hearted spirit, she is no longer is the shy, meek, dutiful little mouse who obeys her guardian’s every command and desperately seeks his approval. Now she is determined to fight her OWN battles and stand up for what she believes in as she embarks on the first leg of a whirlwind tour. And what she believes in most of all beyond making a huge stir in the classical music world is Liam. The tough, commanding ex black op she will never stop loving no matter how many times he tries to push her away for her own good .
As for Liam, holy eff this ALL-ALPHA warrior left me all aquiver! Rough-edged and dominantly sexy, broody and emotionally-closed off, with a tortuously tattered soul, this sworn protector’s feelings for his former ward are as COMPLICATED as they are CAPTIVATING. For as he slowly but surely unravels the devastating truth that tethers him and Samantha together, he vows to safeguard the girl who is the center of his entire universe. She is not only his greatest love and his ultimate Achilles heel, but rouses the primal—predatory–caveman in him, inflaming his twisted desires like no other! But letting down his guard for even a millisecond could lead to sheer and utter catastrophe!
I especially love the scenes when we are inside Liam’s head because it’s in those breath-stealing moments when we see into the inner recesses of his not so iron clad heart and get to behold the chinks in his steely coat of armor. Those rare and enlightening glimpses into his torturous childhood not only have molded him into the man he is today, but, tragically, may have doomed him from ever finding true happiness. SOB! He is a man plagued with so much pain and agony, regret and recrimination, and my heart bled for all that Liam endured in his life.
My only disappointment in an otherwise STELLAR novel is that the H&h are not as front and center like they were in book one, and instead, much of the drama revolves around the mystery regarding Samantha’s presumed dead father, the action on and off the stage and the unfolding intrigue with the side characters. Rather than having their taboo love story be so peripheral to the plot, I would have preferred to have seen more emotionally charged erotic scenes focusing on their torrid love connection which is fueled by their uncontrollable forbidden desire. But on a more upbeat note, I was tickled pink by some of the familiar faces that crossed over from the author’s previous books. And yup…there are a fair amount of baddies to keep the adrenaline pumping!
BOTTOM LINE:
Skye Warren’s resplendent story about two forbidden soulmates who are bound by fate and destiny yet may be permanently ripped apart by unspeakable peril, keeps us on pins and needles from start to finish, finally culminating in another pinnacle climax that leaves us gasping! I cannot wait for the final act, SONATA!
Once again, the author comes through with a hot and heavy tale, that is also full of all the emotional feels we love, and a lot of intrigue of which we are just barely beginning to scratch the surface.
Samantha is out in the world and on her own… And yet she is not. She’s still living in a rather cloistered, protected environment, continually shadowed by her assigned body-guard Josh. He is a constant reminder of her past, and yet not the brother she wishes were with her. Samantha is still inexplicably drawn to Liam, as he is to her; even when they are worlds apart. Yet even when they are together, there are worlds between them. Most of that is his doing, still trying to protect her and keep her away from him.
Despite the taboo nature of their relationship, this story feels sexy, not creepy. Samantha is, afterall, now a grown woman, although admittedly a young and sheltered one. But in many ways she is mature beyond her years, as she needed to be for most of her life, just to protect herself. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. Liam, on the other hand, is still hung-up on the inpropriety of his attraction for her. Even after a rather significant revelation though, he comes across as a tortured love interest, not a disturbing letch. This is perhaps bouyed by the fact that he never showed the slightest bit of inappropriate attention to her when she was younger. (So much so, in fact, that she actually feels rather deprived of human contact during her time being raised by the North brothers.)
Samantha and Liam both make some dubious decisions that have rather severe consequences. In addtition to which, betrayal comes from some unexpected sources, one of which hit me particularly hard, and I’m not sure will be easily recovered from, if at all.
While nothing was actually resolved in this book, there were several story lines that were at least somewhat furthered. Most definitely, there is a lot to be resolved in the next installment. I hope it gives us all of the answers we’re looking for, as well as closure, and preferably in a good way!
I thought this was going to be the end, but nope, it’s the middle book. I began to suspect when it felt like the story was far from finished three-quarters along the way, and this author doesn’t do hurried endings. The tension continues…
Samantha starts on her tour, this time with Josh North as her bodyguard. Liam stayed in the North compound, investigating the threat against Samantha, and assigned his brother Josh with the task to keep Samantha safe. I loved that the tour starts in Tanglewood, where other fantastic characters live, especially Bea.
The rehearsals for the tour start, and we see Samantha start to adapt to adulthood. She’s still a little naive, a little lost. Harry March, the headliner for the tour, arrives and starts flirting with her. There are executives who turn the tour into a sort of reality tour and Samantha ends up acting, dancing, apart from playing the violin. It’s a lively, complicated time, made worse for the low thrum of a menace against her. Josh is competent watching over her, but there are still intrusions into the theater, that involve someone is letting them in.
Samantha’s father is getting near and sending communications. Liam can’t take it any longer, being apart from Samantha is worse than losing a limb. When he sees that the threat is near Samantha, he comes to Tanglewood but tries to stay apart from her.
This book really felt like a transition book because we see the back and forth between Samantha and Liam, the menace that threatens Samantha, Josh’s removal from North Securities, and all the shenanigans in the tour. There’s chaos, sexy times between Samantha and Liam, some PR scandals, but nothing is resolved. After a dramatic plot twist, the book ends in a sort of pause, and we get to wait for the next installment.
I loved seeing Samantha adulting and Liam fighting his demons. I also love Josh and hope he gets his book. These North brothers are broken, growing in with an alcoholic father who thrived in abusing and tormenting his three sons. Even though they appear heartless, they do have feelings and honor. It was a great read and can’t wait for the finale!
i have A LOT of fucking feelings right now. A FUCKING LOT.
That is all … not really LOL
Let’s talk about Skye Warren for a minute before I tell you anything about this story. SHE.CANNOT.BE.TRUSTED. Seriously, I love her deeply, but no.
Now that that is out of the way, let’s talk about this block of words in Liam and Samantha’s journey. Actually, I can’t tell you anything that happens plot-wise, but I can assure you that it ended/paused exactly as/where it should have. I mean it doesn’t take a genius, based on the ending of Overture to figure out that what happened was going to happen. Now the details of it of course, no, we can’t even try because, see above, #NoTrustNoneZeroZilch LOL
When Skye writes a journey, it is never simple. Never take it at face value, because it just never really turns out any way you might think it will. She is extraordinarily good at twisting plots like pretzels and everything still coming up at the end with a smile. I’m honestly in awe at her talent. Her brain scares me a little because who the hell thinks up this shit, but her talent is just awe-inspiring. That’s why she’s a go-to author for me. I know she’s gonna fuck with my head, but I still can’t stop myself from reading her words …. just phenomenal.
So yeah, I’m enjoying the heck out of Samantha and Liam but I’m not gonna lie … I’m a little scared of Sonata
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book after we were left with one heck of a cliffhanger in Overture , and let me tell you not only did we get more of the exciting rollercoaster ride that we had in the first book but we got more of the passion between Liam and Samantha as well.
Skye Warren has taken us on a ride of “what ifs” and I for one was thrilled with it. Does it matter that the person you have fallen for was your caregiver for part of your life, or that there is a large age gap between the two of you, or what about the fact that you are now old enough to leave the nest and fly on your own but the only place you really want to be is in his arms? These are all true for Samantha who is now eighteen years old and traveling the world playing violin in front of audiences that are amazed by her talent but that’s not all, there is also danger lurking in the shadowed seats. The question is will Liam be there to save her?
Book one left us on a cliffhanger with Samantha leaving Liam’s home and starting her new journey. Concerto also leaves us with a whopper of a cliffhanger so be warned, book three, Sonata, isn’t available until August 2019. Happy Reading!!!
Book two takes a while to get into. We start off with Samantha going out on tour. A lot of the beginning is her learning on the tour. Liam comes and goes. Midway through these two start to learn more about each other. They make rash decisions, and then regret returns them to each other. Plot twists keep everything interesting. Both of their families come and go. The book stops at a good point to lead us into book 3.
Concerto surpassed my expectations.
When we last left Samantha she was , IMO, still on the naive side and just beginning to get her feet wet with the explorations of emotional maturity that arrive with adulthood.
Not to mention we were left on a bit of a “What? Who? How?” cliffy.
In Concerto Samantha evolves. She becomes a force to be reckoned with not only on as a true prodigy but also on an emotional level. I thought this was the perfect culmination of previous events. The secrets she holds in that complex mind of hers not to mention the fire that now burns within the woman she has become.
It took some close calls for Samantha to realize that she needed to stand for herself but when she finally finds the strength – She was beautiful.
There was a lot, and I mean a lot, of plot twists and hidden agendas that were brought under the spotlight in Concerto. I was so angry with Liam and his stubborn self-flagellation and then Josh’s behavior had me wanting to toss my kindle and WTH Henry?
I am not going to risk giving away any of the surprises that Warren has graced her readers with in Concerto
I will say
I need to know how this ends
I need justice
I need a new Kindle, I believe mine may have cracked during that last scene
Concerto was the unbelievable and captivating second book in the North Security triology. Liam and Samantha’s story continued in this emotionally riveting and spellbinding read. With each shared moment and as secrets come to light I was hooked and hanging on every word. I loved the interactions between Liam and Samantha and how much they each grew as individuals and together throughout Concerto. I enjoyed the visit back to Tanglewood and catching up with its charming residents. With amazing characters, suspense, action, drama, tension and twists I didn’t anticipate Concerto kept me on my toes and desperate for more. I can’t wait to read the epic conclusion to Liam and Samantha’s story in Sonata!
Where on earth do I begin! I pre-ordered Overture since the synopsis not only sparked my interest, but the very thought of reading a forbidden romance revolving around a noble instrument such as is the violin…well, I was sold. And I have to say as a frustrated musician, Warren’s research into and knowledge of the finer points of music is outstanding. So, when it hit my Kindle in the early hours of the morning; I picked it up and that was that! Everyone started to move except me! Those curious looks thrown my way went ignored. I’d begun the book and had no wish whatsoever to put it down, but was it worth supporting long faces and grumbles. No doubt about it!
The plot works up to a crescendo of incredible intensity. And if it were ever possible, between the staves and the sacrifice for pitches of perfection, secrets one could never have imagined lie. Answers to questions are masterfully convoluted evoking a sense of unrest and not just for the reader. Samantha’s wants to know more. Setting out on a quest to conquer the man she’s loved for what seemed like forever, I must say her resourcefulness to draw attention to herself worked wonders.
Young, talented and determined, Samantha has yet to take the world by storm. She’s been schooled to study, has dexterity and stamina in abundance despite lacking in a few life skills. I have no wish to divulge the reasons why she’d been overly protected by her guardian; however, I couldn’t help but fall hard for this lass whose innocent demeanour I found such a becoming trait. In contrast, I think there’s much more to be said about her sad childhood.
‘Growing up isn’t about learning something new. It’s about unlearning the fairy tales you believed as a child.’
For me, Liam is the perfect gentleman. Ex-military, gorgeous, commanding and quite a bit older than Samantha, he’d cease to be her ward when she reaches legal age. Liam’s is torn between love, guilt and duty. His oh-so troubled soul stirred my emotions and I thought if anyone deserved happiness, it was him. Unfortunately, what I wanted and what the author had in mind were completely different things altogether. You won’t hear me complaining though.
“I’m not fighting demons, sweetheart. I am one.”
Regardless of the age difference or the complex situation they were in, I never felt uncomfortable with Liam and Samantha’s inner thoughts which believe you me, they are titillating and heart-wrenching all in one.
“Then how do you think of me?”
‘My greatest pride and my deepest regret.’
Now, whether you like cliffhangers or not in my honest opinion, Liam and Samantha’s story just has to go on because firstly, I didn’t want the book to finish and secondly, goodness me…the intrigue. Being left up in the air often gets the better of me but for once, my only desire was to get my hands on the follow-up, Concerto. Coming in the middle of May, it couldn’t come sooner. Newbie to Warren’s writing, while chatting to book buddies about this book, many of her novels have been recommended to me, so it’s highly likely I’ll be pushing them to the top of my TBR list. Beautifully written, Overture is a without a doubt, a must-one-click. Bravo!
Ahhh…I need more!!!
Concerto is the second book in Skye Warren’s North Security series and I can not wait for the conclusion.
Both Liam and Samantha, have me hooked on every moment of their interactions. There is so much not being said and I can’t wait for it to all come out.
Then there is the danger factor, so many secrets, lies and betrayal. It will keep you ducked in for sure.
This book brings us to Samantha leaving on your and Liam losing is ever loving mind that he doesn’t have complete control over her anymore. We get some more details on the revelations of the first book but are still left without a lot unanswered.
Grab your copy and get started so that you are ready for the last book; you do have to read them all in order.

Epic. Epic. Epic! Skye Warren has delivered another great book with Concerto. Concerto, is installment two of three, in the North Security trilogy. You must read the first installment, Overture, to understand this trilogy. Be prepared to be sucked in by this kick-behind trilogy.
Concerto picks up right where Overture left off and boy is it awesome! Not only do we get more Liam and Samantha, we get a lot more action-packed romance. Samantha is in another city without the man she loves because she left him behind to start a world tour. Not only is her life in danger, she misses Liam like crazy. Will Liam be able to protect her from her past? Or will they get caught in the crossfire?
Skye Warren knows how to play with your emotions. I was on pins and needles while reading Concerto and feeling like throwing my iPad at some points. I loved the action in addition to the romance. It makes it…hot. Be prepared to have your socks knocked off in this epic installment. I cannot wait for summer to come so I can read the final installment, Sonata.
You can definitely see the many layers to
Samantha and Liam in this book.
I was sooo glad to see that. He’s still so tortured,
and she’s more than happy to make him see
that they belong together . That what they have in this
moment should be taken just as that, and trying to make
him see that what they could have, should be taken into
consideration. So many things come to light, good and bad.
I love that he loves her enough to be completely honest
with her. I literally devoured this book. Can’t wait for the
next book, the anticipation is killing me!!!
Concerto is the sequel to Overture, a trilogy story for Samantha and Liam. Skye Warren got me so hard, I am in love with her writing. Overture is amazing but Concerto has a new spark to it all, can’t wait for what Sonata will deliver. Samantha the teenage prodigy growing up and becoming s strong woman. Liam have been through more than enough in his youth. The raw romance between them had me on my seat from page one until the last one. Liam is always looking to protect Samantha, not trusting anyone they are both struggling with the past and the new things life is throwing at them, making their relationship so vulnerable. This forbidden love romance comes with all kinds of twists and turns I need Sonata now!
This is book #2 in the series, I would recommend reading book 1 first, as this picks up where #1 ends. This story picks up right where Overture left us, with Samantha leaving Liam to go on tour and the readers finding out Alister Brook’s is still alive. Finally on her own, after being Liam’s ward for six years, Samantha has to prepare for her concert with a group of strangers (besides her childhood friend).
Samantha Brooks has left the North Securities compound to start a world tour that she has been hired to perform in. Samantha is finally on her own. Preparing for her upcoming concert, she believes she will remain in the shadows. But with the ever present threat to her life and her new role in the concert, she will now be front and center.
Liam and his brother try to protect Samantha while she’s on tour. A few things happen to where only Liam is protecting her. However, will that be enough? Will he be able to stop anything and anyone from getting to her?
I did receive a free ARC Copy of this book, I received from the author. I am freely leaving an honest review.
So here we go again. Anxiously waiting to see what is going to happen with Samantha and Liam. In Overture, we got that slow burn, taboo romance that kept you wondering what was going to happen. In Concerto, it isn’t slow burn anymore because we know where they both stand but now they have to be apart in order for Samantha to find herself and become the woman she is meant to be. That doesn’t mean that Liam isn’t around. He’s there, silently watching and protecting her.
I was excited to get some of that good ol’ Warren twists that keeps me coming back to her books. While she normally throughs them into her darker series, it worked perfectly here. I never knew what was going to happen between the two of them, which I enjoyed.
Staying within the story, Concerto is just as sexy and naughty as the first book. Seriously, I’m thinking I need to pick up that long forgotten musical instrument I used to play and start playing again. Just to find me a Liam. I’ve enjoyed this series and look forward to what will happen next. WE NEED TO KNOW!
“I killed so many people, but she was the first one I saved.”
In an intense relationship, where the concepts of right and wrong seem blurred and uncertain, two broken and endangered souls seek to understand the true meaning of love.
Liam North tried to stay away from Samantha Brooks. But when a ghost of the past threatens the young violinist’s life, he will spare no effort to protect her. Even if it means putting his own security at risk.
Engaging and controversial. In a warm, enticing and moving narrative, the author delves into the past and the feelings of Liam, Samantha and Josh. While distrust can separate the North brothers, Samantha begins to re-evaluate her and Liam’s feelings trying to discover and build her identity as a woman.
With discoveries about various characters and secrets to be revealed, the author delivers a plot with an electrifying end, where important decisions can forever change the fate of the couple. And the reader is holding his breath suspended while awaiting the latest revelations that will come in the last volume of the trilogy, Sonata.

Out on the world’s stage
—>>> It seems that the secrets and demons are still hiding in the shadows, but none as front and center as Liam North, driven and unrelenting and fiercely protective, who just cannot trust anyone but himself to take care of his precious violin prodigy Samantha. Even while on tour, Liam remains as riveted to her activities and whereabouts, perhaps even more fervently as she is out of his sight, while he tries to clean up the mess created six years ago, something he has been trying to atone for ever since.
Liam and Samantha in this book together are explosive, especially when the taboo element still comes into play to hold their emotions in check. She does mature on this tour away from Liam, finds new way to express herself creatively and sexually, enough to know what she wants and needs from him. And she still wants him, but somehow he has always managed to hold himself aloof from her emotionally. Finally, she may just have realized a way of getting through to him, and things may not be too late for them after all, hopefully. Also, I was intrigued by Josh’s POV as well as Harry’s story, which took the tour onto a complementary twist to parallel Samantha’s trials.
This amazing trilogy that started with “Overture”, continues with an even better book. Usually, the second book in a trilogy is not as good as the first one. However, “Concerto” exceeds its precedent and gives us more suspense, secrets, hidden meanings and of course lustful moments.
Samantha has left the home she knew behind and she’s now in the tour of her life. An adult at last, she has to learn how to fight her own battles. Liam finds it hard to let Samantha on her own. Now on the hunt for her father, she’s always on his mind.
I like how the author gives us access to Liam’s memories. His background story and how he grew up, shaped him in the cold and emotionless man he was before Samantha. Seeing Samantha struggling with adulthood really contributes to the story. They both have been depended in each others presence, and that’s why they struggle from being away from each other. In this book we get to meet new characters, who have their own agenda and they are somehow involved in everything that’s happening.
The last chapters are so intense, that I felt everything alongside the characters. I was so engrossed in what was happening, that I was so sad when the book ended. I’m looking forward to the last book “Sonata”; August can’t come fast enough!!!
Skye Warren is one of my favorite authors. She brings her words to life and her characters into your heart. Concerto is no different. It is sexy and full of suspense. Loved it.
DREAMY’S REVIEW
“He was more than my guardian- he was the axis around which I spun.”
I sit here in amazement, in such awe as I devoured the highly anticipated second book in the North Security Series, Concerto, by Skye Warren.
I absolutely needed this book and now it’s here and I love this beautiful world that Warren has created! It’s addictive, page-turning, and you will NOT be able to put this book down for one second!
What Warren writes is pure magic, so poet, and magnificent!
Concerto is full of suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat, surprising twists, moments that will make you gasp, and chemistry, passion, and an undeniable, sizzling hot connection between our main characters, Liam and Samantha.
“She brings out the wild animal in me, the beast that doesn’t care about laws or morality. She’s mine and I want the world to know it.”
Concerto picks right after the cliff-hanger that quite possibly gave me an anxiety attack (in the best way possible)! Samantha is now off following and living her dreams in preparation for her world tour. I’m doing so, she had to live in a world without the constant in her life, Liam North.
Now that Samantha is without her Guardian, the danger around her grows and the mystery about her father continues to come into light.
Liam North is supposed to keep his distance. He’s supposed to let his Ward go, let her live her life, and let his responsibilities be seen elsewhere and let Samantha take rein of her life. And yet, Liam’s protectiveness reached all new levels the minute Samantha was no longer his Ward.
And even with their distance and time apart, Samantha and Liam’s feelings continue to grow in such a depth that is beautiful in it’s own way. So intense, so pure, and so raw.
“The moment her lips touch mine I’m suffused with music, thousands of notes that she’s played for me, a million heartbeats.”
The tension in this book, my goodness, I love every single bit of it! The internal struggle these two faced, the intensity of their feelings, and just the explosive chemistry these two have! Literally dripping off the pages, it’s so hot!
“He could be a thousand miles away, but I feel his nearness. It pulls me towards him as sure and strong as gravity.”
Within the blurred lines of forbidden and taboo goodness, what Liam and Samantha share is undeniable, inevitable, and written in the stars!
Samantha’s growth and strength and willingness shined through! While Liam’s fierce loyalty, protectiveness, and determination kept me swooning!
“There is so much between Liam and me—obligation and desire, power and respect. I love him the way you love ground you walk on or the air you breathe, with a kind go unquestioning acceptance.”
OMG, this book! These characters, the plot, the flow, the drama, the suspense, the intense emotions, the mystery, the twists and turns, and everything in between will grip at your heart, keep you in your toes, and burning for more!
We’re left with another cliffhanger, which I don’t mind, but BE STILL MY HEART. Here I am with anxiety again, at the edge of my seat, and needing MORE!!
“An invisible string connects me to her.”
I cannot wait for more of Liam and Samantha in Sonata. I need it, more of their story, more of this world, and I absolutely need their HEA!
”You’d love that, wouldn’t you? That would be just the thing for you. The martyr. The savior. I don’t want you to hurt for me, Liam. Can’t you see that? I don’t want to hurt for you. That isn’t how love should be.”
If I could give this book ten stars, I would, without a doubt in sight! It’s THAT amazing!! When I tell you that you NEED this book, grab this baby right now! So mesmerizing, so full of love and passion and longing, and exactly what I needed after being in a book hangover!
… Only to leave me breathless and in yet, another book hangover! One of the best book hangovers! Skye Warren’s writing just does that to you!
Five forbidden stars:
