Lieutenant Eve Dallas uncovers a conspiracy when she investigates the murders of some of New York City’s troubled youth in this thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series.Leading the demolition of a long-empty New York building that once housed a makeshift shelter for troubled teenagers, Lieutenant Eve Dallas’s husband uncovers two skeletons wrapped in plastic. And by the time … plastic. And by the time Eve’s done with the crime scene, there are twelve murders to be solved.
The victims are all young girls. A tattooed tough girl who dealt in illegal drugs. The runaway daughter of a pair of well-to-do doctors. They all had their stories. And they all lost their chance for a better life.
Then Eve discovers a connection between the victims and someone she knows. And she grows even more determined to reveal the secrets of the place that was called The Sanctuary—and the evil concealed in one human heart.

This is a great JD Robb (Nora Roberts) mystery. Love the storyline — bodies found in an abandoned building that Roarke has just purchased; how they identify the bodies, how they try to figure out what happened to the victims, the introduction of a new main person (Dr. DeWinters). This is a great series for mystery lovers and Nora Roberts fans. I like in this one how Eve feels that the victims could have been Roarke and Eve. Great storyline, that you may guess at least part of early, but still definitely worth it!
I really enjoyed this book, but it is not easy to read.
I love the characters and the whole series
I have read most of these books but realized I missed the first couple of them. I was able to catch up. Thank you.
Love the mystery, with a strong love interest and a fantastic, persevering main character.
After about 18 months in between reading the last book, I am so glad I came back to them. I missed this world! The gang was mostly back together, though I did miss a few regulars. We met some new characters, some I hope we never see again (Dr Bones-lady) and others I hope will become regulars (Quilla.) The mystery was good until the last chapter, and the feels got to me too. This is series writing at its best, and I hope we see Eve and Roarke for many years to come.
enjoy this series. Written so well it makes you want to be one of the characters. I started listening to this series when I was traveling by car for work.
Lt. Dallas, Eve and Det. Dahliah, Peabody- homicide cops that are total opposites. You have professional mentorship, murder, NYPSD GEEK squad, plus love stories, bickering which just draws you into the books. My hubby even enjoyed the books.
Love, Love reading the latest one now!!
Outstand series by JD Robb aka Nora Roberts
We are in book #38 in this series and it is still going strong. I think what I am really enjoying about these books is pretty much Eve. She has come so far in her emotional growth and allowing people in her life. In this book, I have to really give a shout out to the scenes between Eve and Dennis Mira. There were only a few, but they really packed a punch.
The storyline was interesting, kind of a cold case. The villain was a bit of a surprise. I think a few reviews had mentioned they weren’t sure who they felt more sorry for. Granted 12 girls were killed and that will always trump the reasons for them being murdered.
We also are introduced to a new character, Dr. Garnet DeWinter, the new forensic anthropologist. There were a few run-ins with her, but nothing significant at this point. I am curious what will or if anything happens between these two very strong women.
All in all another great installation to this amazing series.
Should be a 6 star book. Awesome
Eve Dallas rocks! She is one of my favorite fictional characters. I love the relationship between her and her husband Rourke. I’m still waiting for a movie or tv series. There are enough books in the series to provide more than enough material!
Love all the “death” series, and most all of the Nora Roberts books as well.
Eve does what she does. She is top cop from day one, even when they find 12 dead girls during an excavation of her husband’s latest project. Of course, the one who killed these girls 15 years+ ago is not easy to find…as you would expect. Per usual, you have to find out what happens next. (That’s the joy of reading a J.D. Robb or Nora Roberts book, isn’t it?) I’m ready for another…
All of JD Robb’s In Death books are great reads.
Another great book in the Eve Dallas series. Its good to see the characters grow and develop thru the series. Kept me turning the pages. Great as a stand alone book as it is a great, next in series book.
Love any and all J D Robb books!! Ky Eve Dallas and Roarke are truly an amazing couple!
The story builds with intriguing suspense in search of the killer of 12 young girls. Until Dallas finds they’re the result of a brothers twisted response to his mother’s suicide.
As usual the author never disappoints me. Enjoyable read.
Love the futuristic world of mystery Robb creates. The world may spin on technical progress but the human darkness remains the same.
Great series
