Jaye Jenkins is dealing with the death of her fiance, an overbearing mother and an awkward social existence when a green eyed stranger stumbles into her life. For some reason she can’t stop thinking about the mysterious man she knows she has no right to be fantasizing about. Suddenly an uncontrollable situation occurs, and in a single moment, one simple act of kindness changes everything.
This is a standalone novel.
After tragedy struck both Jaye and Archer separately life decides to intervene and these two meet under the most unsavory of conditions.
Jaye is searching for a way to move on from her tragedy, but no matter how hard she tries the past still has a firm grip on her future. She isn’t living anymore just merely existing.
Archer has had more than one roadblock thrown into his path. Down on his luck, his mental stability is waning. He doesn’t believe there is any more to life than what he has been dealt. He has lost faith in humanity and in himself.
The chemistry between Archer and Jaye is immediate. Their bond forms over a several months, as does their sexual tension. These two characters, who have faced such adversity take refuge in each other. Slowly they both start to take control of their lives. I loved the push and pull between these two.
Ms. Neal did a fantastic job tackling some heavy topics in this book. As usual, she brought wit, humor and compassion to this story. I loved everything about this book and the characters. It was well written and flowed beautifully. I always enjoy Ms. Neal’s books as she puts characters from other books and series in all her works. Archer and Jay may be in my top 3 favorite Xavier Neal couples!
I have to say that you will need an extra box of tissues…
This book has caught my attention and held it to the end.. Jaye is a librarian that is stuck in rut after the loss of her fiancé but one night that all changes by Archer Cox a homeless man that is caught digging in her trash.
Compassion for another human begins when she has a nosy neighbor that tries to arrest Archer for digging in her trash so Jaye steps in then takes him into her home..
Their hearts start to open up and Jaye helps Archer to see that someone just wants to show him that not everyone is the same and He helps Jaye with healing and moving on to becoming her own person..in the end they find out a little compassion can go a long way in the world..
Here’s a couple of my favorite quotes:
“A little compassion can go a long way,”
…..,That I have to let go of my past. But it’s hard seeing your old life, the life that in the blink of an eye could be your present life again, directly in front of you. It waters the seed of ambiguity. Encourages it to grow, to choke the life out of the hope you’ve built. It buries you in mountains of questions until you begin to wonder if this is all a facade, until you begin to believe that this won’t last.
So everyone needs to read this book…
Compassion was my first experience reading any of Xavier Neal’s works and I could not put it down! If something came up that required my attention, I would have Jaye and Asher on my mind the entire time. I enjoyed the inclusion of an interracial couple. It’s not something you find very often in the world of romance books. Neal’s writing style was different, but I loved it once I caught on. The main characters have complete inner dialogues with themselves, which are witty and humorous.
My favorite thing about Compassion is the overall message of this book, which the world seriously needs to hear right now, and it’s spotlight on how we treat our veterans, the men and women who risk everything for our country. The kindness in this book literally made me cry because it was just so overwhelming. Even just the smallest act of kindness can rock a person’s world and give them hope. You don’t know what has led a person the their current situation in life, so don’t judge them just because they are struggling. Don’t look down on them because they are homeless. Show them compassion and kindness. They are human too.
As expected, Xavier knocks another one out of the park!! The characters are real and funny, sensitive and amazing. Definitely a must read for everyone looking for an amazing story!!
This was the very first book I ever read by Xavier, and I haven’t stopped yet!!!!!
