Book One in the Sapphire Creek seriesNewly divorced and currently unemployed, Regan Sinclair is having a tough year. And she’s about to return to the small Montana town her younger self couldn’t wait to leave. While she’s excited to reconnect with her friends and sisters, she swears it’s only until she figures out her next steps. But putting Sapphire Creek behind her—again—gets harder when she … harder when she sees her best friend’s brother. The boy she kissed and then left without a word.
Security consultant Gavin McCabe is a simple guy. He’s got solid friends, a couple of incredible kids, and a business built from the ground up. Life is trucking along as planned—until Regan reappears and knocks him flat on his ass. Now all bets are off. Years ago he let her walk away without a fight, he won’t make that mistake again.
But Regan’s meddling parents and interfering ex seem determined to stand in Gavin’s way. And those problems are only the beginning. Regan came home to Sapphire Creek after a divorce and with a desire to start over. Visiting family and friends and trying to figure out what she wants to do next, Regan is sneakily coerced into babysitting when her sister becomes ill. Little does she know that she is watching her old flame’s twins.
Gavin is stunned when he returns home and finds the one who got away in his kitchen watching his kids. Old feelings and unanswered questions come back, and Gavin knows he’ll do to convince Regan that they were meant to be. But Regan doesn’t want to stay in the town that she once desperately escaped. This is just a brief stop until Regan moves on. Will Regan give this romance a second chance, or will she leave behind the past for a new beginning?
As Regan and Gavin’s relationship begins to bloom, uncommon things start happening in Sapphire Creek. Rumors of drug use, break-ins, and other dangerous situations put Regan and other’s lives at risk. When their famous friend returns, the situation becomes even tenser. Plus, Regan’s ex-husband and Gavin’s ex-wife complicate matters. It’s interesting to see how Regan and Gavin try to put the pieces together and figure out what is going on. They make a good team, whether it’s caring for Gavin’s adorable and rambunctious kids or trying to solve an unusual and potentially dangerous mystery.
Regan and Gavin are relatable characters, and I love their love story!! Theirs is a wonderful second-chance romance filled with yearning, promise, and passion. They have amazing chemistry, and I love how they reconnect. Gavin is so in love with Regan, and his patience and understanding are almost as swoon-tastic as the spicy scenes!
Another part of the story that I really like is that it focuses on friendships. Regan reconnects with her old friends from Sapphire Creek, and most are also friends with or related to Gavin. They all have such an ease about them, and they whole-heartedly welcome Regan back into the fold. They’re the type of friends that you can not see for years, and when you finally get together, it’s as if no time has passed. They love, support, and accept each other, though they are all different and have all gone in different directions. They have so much fun together, whether it’s hanging at a bar, shopping at an adult store, or cheering on their significant others in a snowy football game. However, it’s not all fun for these friends. They also share their fears and heartbreaks, their secrets and their truths. Their connection is so well-developed and is one of my favorite parts of the novel. I definitely think these secondary characters set the stage for future books in the series.
Regan has a complicated relationship with her family, but I love that she begins to reconnect with her younger sisters. Living in different states, Regan pulled away from her difficult and complicated family, but now that she is back in Sapphire Creek, she has the opportunity to bond more easily with her sisters. Her parents prove more difficult, especially since old wounds and new manipulations prevent a good reunion. They all have complex and not overly healthy relationships with their parents, which unifies them. Many times throughout the story, they try to protect each other from parental influence and other problems, and I love their growing relationship.
This is a great story that I think readers who enjoy contemporary romance will enjoy. The characters are well-developed, and the story is interesting. I’m excited to read the next book in the Sapphire Creek series! Thanks so much to Carmen Cook for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
The storyline was well-written with characters that were so well developed that Gavin and Regan pulled me right into their story as it effortlessly unfolded from page to page!
Regan and Gavin had a one day fling 10 years ago, and though they both had strong feelings for each other, Regan was in a hurry to get out of her parent’s house when she graduated from high school and left without saying goodbye. When she returns and her sisters con her into taking over one of their babysitting jobs, she is surprised to see that the children’s dad is was none other than Gavin McAbe.
As the title implies, things heated up quickly between the two. The romance was sexy and steamy.
In addition to the hot love story, it is a story of true friends. Friends who you can leave for 10 years and come back and pick up right where you left off. Regan reconnects with her close friends who welcome her back as if she never left. She also had to rebuild the relationships with her 2 sisters after being gone without much contact for 10 years.
I enjoyed the book but felt like a lot of it was written as if it wasn’t the first, but maybe 3rd or 4rth book in the series. (They way a lot of the characters were introduced.)
This was a great Novel Debut for Ms. Cook. I look forward to reading the next books in the series and learning more details about Regan’s friends and their love interests.
I just finished the book and I loved it! I was drawn in from page one and I can’t say that often. Gavin and Reagan’s story is so sweet with the world around them going crazy. I not only loved their story but all the characters surrounding them as well. The mystery intrigues me and I can’t wait to continue reading the rest of the series. I definitely recommend this book!
Pick up this second chance love story today – you won’t be disappointed!
This debut novel from Carmen Cook offers a second chance love with drama, danger, and a hot romance. Regan is rebuilding the friendships from her past and reconnecting with her sisters. Gavin is juggling being a single dad with owning his own security business. They reconnect and sparks fly. What really shone through in Coming in Hot was the closeness of the group of friends. The group is there to support, love, and encourage each other. They are a great group of characters and I look forward to their stories being played out in upcoming books. Writing style flows smoothly and you’re hooked to see what is going to happen next. This is not a cliff hanger book though some of the secondary storyline/issues where not solved/explained so I’m hoping they will be in upcoming books. A very good book debut and looking forward to her next book
What a great cast of characters! I so enjoyed getting to know Regan, Gavin, and all their friends and family. The way they enjoy everything fully from a reunion happy hour to the Snow Bowl is awesome! Kind of made me want to live someplace where a snow bowl could happen, except for the snow part. . . but I digress. . . . The way Carmen brought these people to life is wonderful; friendships and family and love. What could be better? Oh, a little suspense thrown in as well – you’ll never see it coming. All in all I find myself wanting to know what happens next for Brooke and Conner and for Mitch and Chloe – the best books always make you feel like you’ve spend time with friends you miss a little when the book ends. Tthis book does that.
