Against the backdrop of an elegant Cornwall mansion before World War II and a vast continent-spanning canvas during the turbulent war years, this involving story tells of an extraordinary young woman’s coming of age, coming to grips with love and sadness, and in every sense of the term, coming home…In 1935, Judith Dunbar is left behind at a British boarding school when her mother and baby … baby sister go off to join her father in Singapore. At Saint Ursula’s, her friendship with Loveday Carey-Lewis sweeps her into the privileged, madcap world of the British aristocracy, teaching her about values, friendship, and wealth. But it will be the drama of war, as it wrenches Judith from those she cares about most, that will teach her about courage…and about love.
Teeming with marvelous, memorable characters in a novel that is a true masterpiece, Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher is a book to be savored, reread, and cherished forever.

Rosamunda Pilcher is an excellent author. I devour all her books and this one was no exception.
Good as always from this author
Great character development. Loved flow of storyline.
Wonderful story. As satisfying as Downton Abby was to watch.
If you’re a Rosamunde Pilcher fan, this book is a must for your library.
What a wonderful story. I hated to leave the characters behind.
Wonderful characters and descriptions
During the quarantine, it was so comforting to read this book. I felt warm and safe. It brightened my mood.
One of the best books I have ever, ever read. Over 900 pages and I loved each and every page.
All books from this author are my favorites, to read again and again. The characters are genuine.
Another wonderful book from a fabulous writer. The characters are unforgettable, and the story brings the world of England to life before and during WWII. It’s a great story for those who are interested in this historical era, and who want a realistic idea of life during this time period.
Has been years since I read this book but I recall it was up there with others by this author, such as Shell Seekers. Great character development. People story, with emotional draws on the reader.
I loved this book-A page turning saga–reminiscent of Brideshead Revisited-great believable characters-maybe a bit too pat of an ending-but it was sure fun getting there-
Beautiful book, deep, romantic and uplifting.
Loved, loved, loved, this book. With the quarantine I’ve been reading a lot of books, mostly quick, shallow reads, but this book was so well written, so descriptive, that I literally wallowed in it. Despite the numerous characters Pilcher introduces them so charmingly that it’s never hard to keep track.
On a trashy day, I can read two books a …
I couldn’t put this book down, even when I sometimes knew what was going to happen. Wonderful Rosamunde Pilcher style, like The Shell Seekers. Escapism!
I loved it-she is one of my favorite authors
One of my favorite books of all times. An annual re-read.
This author writes with such detail, once can actually live in the story; all the characters, the details of Cornwall and the WWII era are vividly written. It would have been five stars, except for a too neatly packaged ending.
