Coming Home: The Sequel to Flowers in December
By Jane Suen
Coming home is the heart-warming sequel to Flowers in December, Now I wouldn’t read Coming Home until you have read Flowers in December or you probably won’t be able to follow the sequel and you will miss out on loads of information. Some of the characters from Flower in December are also in Coming Home. Just like the first book this one is also a short read, but you will not want for anything story wise. This book has multiple points of views which to me makes the storyline even better. If you are looking for a new author, I really do recommend you pick up Jane’s books you will not be disappointed. Thank you, Jane, for yet another heart wrenching story I LOVED Flowers in December and Coming Home equally.
Coming Home

5 out of 5 stars
I feel like all of my reviews on Jane Suen’s writing are always the same. Jane Suen is a captivating storyteller with a voice that is soft and almost poetic to me. There has never been a piece of writing that I’ve read by this author and didn’t love, despite them all being so different.
Until reading Coming Home, I thought Flowers in December was my favorite. This book exceeded all of my expectations! I loved being reunited
with characters from the first book and seeing where life has taken Connor and Tom!
As always, I’ll be keeping an eye out for more form Jane Suen.
Coming Home, by Jane Suen, is the second book in the Flowers in December series. This book continues Connor’s story as he moves beyond the death of his mother. The author has done a remarkable job of including so much emotional attributes within this short story, similar to the rawness that was experienced in the first book, yet at the same time it felt more defined. The holiday dynamic adding more depth to this novella along with the hope of what many hope to accomplish over the holidays – forgiveness, renewal and the hope of something more. Jane Suen is a talented author and her talent continues to grow with each additional book that is written.
Coming Home is a fun-loving Christmas story by Jane Suen. I like Jane’s other books and I knew that I would like this one as well. The story was a quick read, but it has such a powerful story with in the covers. I felt that the characters could easily be a part of my family or friends. I love Mary Ann character the most. I love how she achieved what she wanted in life. Mary Ann is such a strong female character. This story was filled with emotions and twists and turns. I would suggest a kleenex box near you and to set enough time to complete this story.
Coming Home by Jane Suen a four-star read that will welcome you home. This is the sequel to Flowers in December and will astound you, it’s a great story that even though has elements of Christmas it doesn’t need to read at that time of year. This story starts four-months after the first and I would advise you to read the first part ready as you would be lost if you didn’t. This is such a powerful story and deals with matters that not all find easy to read, the way the author manages to deal with it so gracefully in such a short amount of pages will surprise you.
I really enjoyed this festive heartwarming Christmas story. It was a short read so i was able to get through it in a few hours. It is emotional and sweet read and I just loved Connor. He has suffered a significant lose and he is doing his best to move on with his life. This is the first Christmas he has had to without his mom. I also like all of the other characters. The emotions are high but luckily he has wonderful friends by his side.
This author has an amazing writing style and i am looking forward to reading more by her! I would recommend it to a friend!
Coming Home: Book 2 in the Flowers in December Series by Jane Suen
4 out of 5 stars
This sweet “coming home” story is one for the aching heart. Connor is back home for the holidays. He is honoring his mother and the memories he had with her. Coming home is his way of coming to terms with her passing and his grieving process. Along the way, the re-acquaints himself with forgotten friends and even a possible new love interest. And of course, a new tabby cat..named Tom.
This book made me cry. Not many books will make me full on ugly cry, but this one truly pulled at my heart strings. This story will break your heart into pieces, just to put it back together again. I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone. You will love this.
A great read about moving on. Connor Norton returns to his home town after grieving for the death of his mother. Whilst there, he bumps into Mary Ann, hoping to resume their friendship from the previous novel. But too much time has passed and she is moving on with her life. Can he move on with his life too?
A great read. Well developed plot. Well developed characters like Connor dealing with his grief but still kind underneath or Mary Ann doing what she loves but standing up for herself. Great cast of supporting characters like the supportive Norma or the old friend Alana. I loved the sweet bubbly nature of Ron and his enthusiasm for nature was a lovely touch. Connor’s grief was beautifully written, as he remembers Christmases with her in sweet reminiscences that hit him from nowhere, emotive and sad and sweet.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like with the Christmas feel of the town with its string lights and trees full of life and people. Or the sense of the small town with its little shops and streets where everyone knows each other and where things are the same even after years away which was perfectly written. Or the little coffee shop with its colourful decorations of red and green and ivy and holly bright and jolly in vivid colours, beautifully written.
I also liked the use of dates in the chapter titles, which was a great addition to fuel the Christmas feel of the novel and time passing and also helping with the backstory of Alana for the flashbacks to work well with the narrative of the present. Overall, a wonderful read and I would give it five stars.
Coming Home: the sequel to Flowers in December by Jane Suen is a story of one man who
after the death of his mother is learning to deal with his grief. In order to pull himself out of
his funk he has decided to leave his old life behind and start a new where he grew up. With
old friends and new he celebrates the season of his first christmas without his mother. It is a
very quick but emotional read. Jane is a master at never doing what you think should be and
always leaves me a little frustrated. But having said that she always writes from the heart
and that is infused within her words in her stories.
Read and enjoy but you need to read the first book Flowers in December first.
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this pop up on my feed. I had absolutely adored Flowers in December and was left wanting more, not with loose ends, but still wanting some more of Connor and what would come next for him. This was that and so much more. We just happen to get a lot more than we may have even bargained for. I would highly recommend that you read the first book, Flowers in December before devouring this one, everything will flow and make sense so much more. This one is obviously a holiday/Christmas story but I really feel as is I will be pulling this gem out any time of year, whenever I need an emotional and yet encouraging read. I almost feel as if these two books together would create a great Hallmark Christmas movie. I can’t wait to find out what will come next from Jane Suen! I am sure it will fantastic whatever it will be, and on my to be read list! Happy reading!
Coming Home: The Sequel to Flowers in December By Jane Suen. This is an incredible heartwarming story about forgiveness and more. From Page one I knew I was in for a wonderful story. The characters are relatable and you find yourself really pulling for them. The author knows how to to pull on the heartstrings of readers. I definitely found myself on an emotional roller coaster but it’s so worth it. I couldn’t put it down until the very end. I’m gladly giving this book a five star review and highly recommend it to anyone. It’s a short read but it definitely shouldn’t be missed!
Coming Home: The Sequel to Flowers in December by Jane Suen was a sweet fast-paced novella. Coming Home was told from multiple points of view and I recommend that you read Flowers in December to get a better understanding of what’s happening.
It has been four months since Connor’s mother’s death and he has decided to come home for his first Christmas without her. He runs into an old face and someone he has thought about for months but has that person moved on?
This was a wonderfully written novella. But I need more, you left me wanting to know what is going to happen next.
Coming Home by Jane Suen is the sequel to the great Flowers in December. This book does really need to be read in order as it continues on from book one.
It is a relatively short read, just like the first, but it has everything in it you could want.
After reading the blurb I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel throughout this book but the author does an brilliant job with it. It is highly emotional and packs so much into a small story. The characters all seem to have such a depth to them that carries the story well.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish.
I have read a couple of books from this talented author and she keeps on surprising me. This is the second book in the Flowers of December series. I absolutely love a good self healing story but this author exceeded all my expectations. This is a short book but it has it all. I devoured this incredible story in only a couple of hours.
Connor Norton finds himself back to his hometown. He left for a few months to grieve is mother’s passing. Connor still feels lost without her but her cat Tom makes him feel better. He is happy when he runs into Mary Ann again. Connor cares about her and he wants to start over again. He is still trying to find himself again as well. Will coming home help him with his life or will it make it even more upsetting?
I absolutely loved this book. The storyline has it all romance, hope, healing, and forgiveness. You will fall in love with these characters all over again. Connor is lost without his mom. He thinks that coming back home will give him closure so he can move on. Mary Ann is living her dream but she wishes she had someone to share it with. She is still upset with Connor but a Christmas miracle could happen. I can’t wait to see what this amazing author will have for us next.
Coming Home is Book 2 in the series. Some characters in this book were in the previous book. Connor was living in the city with his moms cat, working and not paying much attention to the cat. Now he’s back home at his mothers house and is trying to relive happy memories. Will he be able to get the cat to be important to him? Is Tom sick or just as heartbroken as Connor? Christmas was always a great holiday he spent with his mom. He spends the holiday making new memories especially for another family who has not seen each other or heard from each other in many years. I thought the book was ok. The writing was good but, I wasn’t really into the story
Another well written story by Jane Suen. Coming Home is the sequel to Flowers in December. Connor has returned to his childhood home after the death of his mother. He rekindles some relationships with those from his past. And hopes to rekindle a relationship with Mary Ann.
As is usual with Jane Suen’s stories is the underlying “moral of the story”. After reading this story I am left wondering which relationships I should go and “fix”.
I suggest reading Flowers in December, so you get a better feel for Connor and the situations that made him the way he is.
Coming Home: The Sequel to Flowers in December
By Jane Suen
4 stars
I was really looking forward to seeing how Connor was coping in the second instalment to Flowers in December – book 1 was very emotional following Connor and his grief over losing his mother and again his emotions flowed through this story but in a different way. This story was more about him making his peace with everything and moving on with his life. I loved seeing Mary-Ann back in his life and also some other secondary characters. We got snippets into a few of the other characters too which was nice. Although the story didn’t end up as I thought and maybe wanted I still enjoyed reading about Connor again.
I would definitely recommend reading book 1 before this one to fully understand everything Connor went through.
Another great read from Jane Suen, I look forward to more from her again in the future.
5 Stars
Coming Home is the sequel to Flowers in December by Jane Suen.
We meet back up with Connor, four months after the end of the first book. He has ‘come home’ for the holidays as a way of honouring his mother and his/their memories . This story is a continuation of the first book, with Connor still coming to terms with his mother’s passing, the grieving process, self-realization, forgiveness, finding a way to move forward, mending bridges, hope, love, and emotion- that happens over the course of the story. I loved it even more than the first book.
I really recommend reading the first book before starting on this one, as all the backstory and other relevant information is contained in that book. Ms. Suen had me hooked quite quickly and engaged me the whole way through. It is a short story, and I finished it quite quickly- but as with the first book, the author infused so much emotional content into the story- it has stayed on my mind long after finishing it.
I wonder what Ms. Suen has up her sleeve for us next. She certainly likes to surprise us!
Thank you, Ms. Suen!
Coming Home by Jane Suen is the sequel to Flowers in December. While I have read a lot of books and generally love Suen’s work, this was not one of my favorites. I think mostly because it didn’t end the way I wanted it to. I kept expecting, and hoping for 2 things to happen, that didn’t. I can’t say what, as it is a spoiler, but just be warned, don’t get your hopes up for a sappy romantic ending. I love the part of the story regarding Alana and her mother, but Mary Ann’s story didn’t end as expected. But, anyone who has read any of the authors books knows that’s normal. She always seems to put a twist in at the end which I sometimes love and sometimes want to scream, in a true page turner fashion.
The story follows Connor Norton, after he and his cat, Tom return to his childhood home. In the previous book, his mother passed away, and he is still grieving. He has to make some decisions about the next steps for his life, and rekindles some friendships along the way. I recommend the book, but it must be read after Flowers in December. I highly recommend you check out Jane Suen’s other works as well. They are all quick easy reads.
Coming Home is the sequel to Jane Suen’s Flowers in December. Connor, whose return to his hometown for his mother’s funeral set the scene for Flowers in December, is coming back for good. He’s realised that the corporate life he worked so hard at isn’t making him, or Tom the cat, happy.
I was expecting this book to develop the relationship between Connor and Mary Ann that was the focus of Flowers in December. It was a pleasant surprise to find that it focuses more broadly on all kinds of relationships – friendships old and new, family and romance. It’s very much a Christmas story as Connor faces his first holiday season without his mum.
I wish Alana had more time to develop – I felt like she was very much in the background and we got most of her story in one go. But I guess it’s good that the book left me wanting more! I’m eager to read more of Alana’s story, as well as seeing how Connor and Mary Ann’s futures pan out.
For me, this is a four star read. If you want something comforting and festive, with plenty of originality, this is a great read! I would recommend starting with Flowers in December, but enough background information is given that you could probably get away with reading it as a standalone.
