A daughter murdered, a mother grieving and searching for justice, the mother’s secret past with ties to the mob. All the ingredients for an enjoyable thriller. The author portrayed the complex and tragic case in a way that drew me in and made the characters realistic, relatable and interesting. Clues left along the way had me certain I knew who the killer was only to have the next twist totally change my mind. A great read that has put this author on my must read list
I didn’t want the book to end! I wanted more details about Sofia’s childhood! Love Kristi’s books!
I was enamored by the cover of this book and intrigued by the blurb. I receive this author’s newsletter and have some of her books noted in my ‘to check out’ list but I have yet had the chance to actually read one of them, until now. While reading a newsletter, I noticed a request for ARC readers for a new book – Coming For You and thought to myself, ‘this would be a great chance to check out her writing’, so I responded and was kindly offered a copy to read and review. The first chapter pulled me in, I was hooked by the third, by the middle I was sitting on the edge of my chair, coming to the close of the story I was holding my breath and by the end, it was a total wow moment. I read the entire book in one sitting; I could not believe it was over and wanted more. This story was definitely one heck of a ride. There was plenty of suspense to keep you turning the pages and several twists and turns to hold your interest. Coming For You was a great read and I really enjoyed the story. The only negative things for me were the ending and the length of the read. Though all questions were answered, I was hoping for more and was a little disappointed as to how it ended. I just always like to see a more finalized, happy ending with standalone books and I felt that it was a tad drawn out; that the discoveries could have been made a little sooner in the story.
Sofia and Jason were a great couple that had a wonderful life with a beautiful daughter heading off to college and terrific longtime friends. In one shocking moment, their world stopped and everything came crashing down at the murder of their daughter. Life stopped in an instant and nothing would ever be the same again. Barely holding on to her sanity and her marriage, Sofia puts everything on the line to hunt for her daughter’s killer. The more she digs for answers, the more confused, anxious and heartbroken she becomes. She becomes suspicious of everything and everyone and as she closes in on the truth, things happen that send her reeling again. This story was a tense, emotional journey for Sofia as she hunts for her daughter’s killer while trying to hold together her marriage and keep her secrets and past hidden. When the truth is finally revealed and the killer caught, will she be able to finally let go and heal? Once all the secrets and lies surface, will her life or her marriage ever be the same?
*I am thankful to the author for the advanced copy I received. I truly enjoyed the story and I am providing my honest review. The thoughts and opinions expressed are solely my own.
Vowing to never give up until she has found and killed the one who murdered her daughter, Sophia sets out to fulfill that promise no matter what. Superbly written, this gut-wrenching novel is not an easy read but it is a breathtaking book that will stay with you long after you have read the last page.
Outstanding and Very Highly Recommended.
Coming For You – a review by Rosemary Kenny
When Sophia and Jason’s daughter Kate is brutally murdered and dumped by a river, Sophia blames herself – and her carefully concealed true identity as the daughter of a Mafia hit man, whom she betrayed and had imprisoned when only a child.
Reinventing her past may now have come back to bite her, taking away the child she loved so dearly.
Which family member had contacted Kate?
Why was Kate’s bff Lily blaming herself?
As Kate begins a vendetta to find the killer, the family’s police liaison officer questions her version of her supposed ‘orphaning’.
Is Marlowe getting too close to Sophia’s secret past?
With more twists and turns than a Chubby Checker Twist-a-thon, you’ll be amazed by the revelation of the killer’s ID.
How will it impact on Sophia and her quest to get justice for Kate?
Get your copy of Kristi Belcamino’s fantastic psychological thriller, Coming For You and see if you can solve the mystery before it’s revealed!
Coming For You: A dark psychological thriller, my second read from author Kristi Belcamino. My first was Taste of Vengeance (Gia Santella #4.5) was set in the Sydney Rye universe. I’m a Sydney Rye fan & that got me to read the book, now I’m a Kristi Belcamino fan as well although Gia often seems like more of a victim than a heroine the writing was so good that I’ll read more of Belcamino’s writings. Well written & enjoyable, a captivating tale that takes unexpected twists & turns, always keeping the reader engaged and guessing until the book’s end. I bought a Kindle copy back in March 2019 & then bought this audiobook in June of the same year. Narrator Chelsea Stephens’ outstanding narration made a great book even better! Now I’m voluntarily reading & reviewing it because every great book needs reviews. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author(RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
A gripping story about 3 closely linked families, and their reactions when tragedy strikes. I didn’t know ‘who dunnit’ or who would be found responsible until the last few pages. Full of twists and turns, it was hard to put down.
This is every parents nightmare. Sofia and Jason host an “empty nest” party with two other couples to celebrate each couple’s daughters going away to college. But when Sofia wakes up the next morning she realizes her daughter, Kate, didn’t come home. She frantically calls around trying to find her with no luck. Then the unthinkable happens—Kate is found—murdered. The parents’ anguish is recounted in heartbreaking detail. Sofia is determined to find the killer. This story is told in flashbacks of Kate’s last few months before her death and Sofia’s childhood and background and the dark secrets she has kept from her family and friends. Could Kate’s death be linked to Sofia’s past? I loved this book. I could not wait to find out what actually happened to Kate. This book is suspenseful and so emotional. Easily a 5*+ read.
i enjoyed this book throughout my reading; an unputdownable one. I liked most the part where it was mentioned that Virgin Mary lost her son in a violent way. very true! I would be like Sophia should I have suffered like her…
I was lucky enough to have gotten a ARC copy of this book. I volunteered to leave this review.
This book has plenty of twist and turns to keep you guessing till the end. Loved the book will definitely be reading more of this author’s work.
This is a very intense twisted story about a mother’s love and determination to find her daughter’s killer. Sofia is trying to maintain some semblance of a life, but she finds out about many lies and secrets that she really should not of found. She also has a message for the real killer, “I’m coming for you.” I enjoyed this story very much. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book.
My rating is a solid 4.5, this rating system doesn’t allow for half stars so I went with a 5.
This is the type of book that draws you in and doesn’t let you out. It’s the story of a mother’s emotionally charged search for the killer of her daughter.
She is living every parents’ nightmare and even though she has a tight-knit circle of friends, cannot be consoled by either them, her husband or her daughter’s closest friends. She is also battling her own demons of the past and the book slowly tells her story and why her adult life has been based on a lie. A lie that will cause much pain and damage if it surfaces.
The book lays facts and background out by flipping back and forth in time. With a lot of writers these transitions end up confusing the reader, causing them to re-read passages to remember where you were and where they took you. Belcamino handles these transitions smoothly and uses her writing artfully to give you the very important history of the story.
The ending was a bit of a surprise to me, I was headed in the right direction for the killer’s identity but missed a few subtle hints that would have helped with the identification. The murder was committed as the result of raw human emotion, which I suppose many murders are.
Overall, I thought this was an excellent read and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
LOVED IT! This crime thriller has all the elements of a great story. From the first chapter which sucks you in and won’t let go, Coming For You is a gripping tale of a young girl’s disappearance, a mother who won’t stop searching for answers and a cast of characters who keep you guessing. I literally couldn’t put it down.
This novel is a crime thriller that provides twist and turns for the reader. A woman with a hidden past who thought that past was behind her. She is living a dream life that is destroyed by the mysterious disappearance and murder of her daughter. Our heroine uses the strengths from her past to find the truth and seek justice. As a reader you can’t help bur put yourself in her position and wonder what would I do? This novel has a great depth of emotions that are experienced by the reader as the story line moves through time and changes your vision of the world around you. As a reader I thought I had solved the mystery and with a slight turn doubted everything I though I knew; just like our heroine. Intriguing and suspenseful it lured me into reading late into the night. One can’t help but wonder where our heroine’s life goes from here. Kristi Belcamino is a brilliant writer who never disappoints.
What do you do when your daughter is murdered? Well, this is what Sofia does. Belcamino shows that the answer isn’t as simple or straightforward as it may seem. As Belcamino alternates perspectives between Sofia, as she is dealing with this tragedy in real time, and her daughter, Kate, in the time period that led up to the murder, we get to know both characters…both strong, both flawed. Both characters are compellingly, multi-dimensionally human. Belcamino does an amazing job of making these two characters real and accessible to the reader…you feel what they are going through as the story progresses towards its crushing, provocative conclusion.
This is really Sofia’s journey in learning about, redefining and accepting who she is at her very core as much as it is a thriller.
The only reasons I gave this a 4 instead of a 5 were timeline and character of Jason. I felt the timeline was a bit jumpy and the character of Jason, Sofia’s husband, was under-developed. Neither is a big deal…and Jason only bothered me because all the other characters were so well developed and well reasoned in their structure and consistency.
Though this is currently a stand alone novel, I hope Belcamino considers building this into a series and further developing the character of Sofia. She has the potential of being similarly as deep and powerful and compelling as Lisa Gardner’s Flora Dane character in the D.D. Warren novels.
Overall, an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable read!
I have mixed feelings about this one. I’m a big fan of the author, and have read several of her other books. And like the author, I’m a big fan of strong female leads. The story itself is good. The crime, and it’s solving is totally believable, which is something I require. I don’t usually like books that jump from, 3rd to 1st person narrative, but once you get used to it, it works. The only reason I can’t grade this higher is that it was quite dark. Now, I understand that most/all of the authors books are dark, but in this case, there was a lot of grief depicted. This turned a good bit of the middle section into an uncomfortable read. I realize that it deals with the death of a teenager, and maybe that’s why I found it depressing. Maybe the fact that I have a daughter slightly older than the one in the book put me a little too close to the pain. I did, however like the ending, and the twists on who was the real villain worked quite well.
At the end of the day, I would advise people that like strong female characters read this book. But do so understanding that parts of it can be quite uncomfortable to read.
If you love suspense, mystery and action you will love this book. From the start the book takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride. The main character is Sofia and she has to deal with her daughter’s murder. While you are reading what she is going through, you also get to read about her daughter and her thoughts from before she is murdered up till the point where she is murdered. The way the book is written is awesome as it keeps you on the edge of your seat . You also deal with all the emotions the characters are going through and get to have an inside view to their feelings. I loved this book as it kept me engrossed and it had a shocking ending! Once again Kristi has written a winner!
