Read chapter one of Nora Roberts’s Come Sundown! The Bodine ranch and resort in western Montana is a family business, an idyllic spot for vacationers. A little over thirty thousand acres and home to four generations, it’s kept running by Bodine Longbow with the help of a large staff, including new hire Callen Skinner. There was another member of the family once: Bodine’s aunt, Alice, who ran off … Alice, who ran off before Bodine was born. She never returned, and the Longbows don’t talk about her much. The younger ones, who never met her, quietly presume she’s dead. But she isn’t. She is not far away, part of a new family, one she never chose–and her mind has been shattered…
When a bartender leaves the resort late one night, and Bo and Cal discover her battered body in the snow, it’s the first sign that danger lurks in the mountains that surround them. The police suspect Cal, but Bo finds herself trusting him–and turning to him as another woman is murdered and the Longbows are stunned by Alice’s sudden reappearance. The twisted story she has to tell about the past–and the threat that follows in her wake–will test the bonds of this strong family, and thrust Bodine into a darkness she could never have imagined.

One of her best.
A good read
Come Sundown by Nora Roberts
2017
It’s been awhile since I’ve read a Nora Roberts book.
I’ve mostly read the series books. This definitely had a different flow.
It was a rather complex story about family and rekindled friendships. There is a long history within the Bodine Ranch that is rich with mystery and turmoil. Through the years the family has found its way to grown stronger and more connected as a result. The story overall was strong and provided interesting if not sometimes predictable characters. I found parts of the story to drag on in parts that I didn’t feel added much to the plot. The lag caused me to lose focus on some key information which would have helped me piece together the conclusion.
I had hoped for more but it was still an enjoyable read.
I wish I could give this more than 5 stars. I’ve been reading Nora Roberts for what seems like my entire life, and she consistently creates stories and characters that I fall completely in love with. This story grabbed me immediately and wouldn’t let go. I saw another reviewer use the phrase “heartbreaking and beautiful,” and I could not agree more. The characters are complex and interesting, and interact so well with each other that you almost feel like you’re eavesdropping.
Also: I want to live and work on the Bodine Ranch & Resort.
This was a book that I couldn’t put down.
Another fantastic Nora Roberts book, I was captivated from the start.
This story wavers between the present day and about 25 years in the past leading up slowly to now. A family in Montana runs a ranch and resort. This story is about their lives and their loves. A family member disappeared years ago and suddenly more women are turning up dead, are they connected? I can honestly say wow, I didn’t see that coming at all. There is drama, action, suspense and romance all packed into this book. I enjoyed all the characters, even hated some. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
One of her best books!
Love mysteries and just when you think you know did it. The ending surprises you.
Grittier than t he usual Nora Roberts, this was a haunting story of a family torn apart by the disappearance of one of its members, and the way they manage to come together to heal when she reappears, many years later. Gripping yet positive and romantic
I’m a big fan of Nora Roberts and this book didn’t disappoint me. I fell in love with the characters and because I love animals I also loved the horses. It’s a large book but worth the read.
I loved this book and couldn’t put it down. Hated when it was done. One of the best Nora Roberts books I’ve read
Enjoyed this book. Read it in just a couple of days
One of those books you don’t want to put down.
Can’t miss with Nora Roberts. All her books are great.
My kind of mystery. …My kind of book. Liked it a lot
Excellent book – she never disappoints.
I like all of Nora Roberts books. She is one of my followed authors so that I can be one of the first to read a new book.
Shelter in Place is, I’m not sure what to say about it. It tells the story of several of the people shot in a mass movie theater/mall shooting.
One of the wounded became a police officer to help others. One a Doctor, one an artist. Not all of the wounded had gun shot wounds. They each struggled in their own way to get through the trauma.
I have all of Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb books. I am unable to NOT finish her books the minute I start one.
About 20 pages in, I figured out whodunnit and why. Don’t bother with this – read “Montana Sky” instead. Similar premise, but more interesting.
I have reread this book at least 5 times and each time something new or familiar stands out. I love the build up and how there is not one but two love stories taking place as well as the long lost daughter finding/fighting her way home.
