Read chapter one of Nora Roberts’s Come Sundown! The Bodine ranch and resort in western Montana is a family business, an idyllic spot for vacationers. A little over thirty thousand acres and home to four generations, it’s kept running by Bodine Longbow with the help of a large staff, including new hire Callen Skinner. There was another member of the family once: Bodine’s aunt, Alice, who ran off … Alice, who ran off before Bodine was born. She never returned, and the Longbows don’t talk about her much. The younger ones, who never met her, quietly presume she’s dead. But she isn’t. She is not far away, part of a new family, one she never chose–and her mind has been shattered…
When a bartender leaves the resort late one night, and Bo and Cal discover her battered body in the snow, it’s the first sign that danger lurks in the mountains that surround them. The police suspect Cal, but Bo finds herself trusting him–and turning to him as another woman is murdered and the Longbows are stunned by Alice’s sudden reappearance. The twisted story she has to tell about the past–and the threat that follows in her wake–will test the bonds of this strong family, and thrust Bodine into a darkness she could never have imagined.

Come Sundown was outstanding!! The parallel plot structure, excellent character development and amazing Northwest setting kept me engaged in the story. Getting a peek into life on a working ranch and resort in Montana was an educational experience that I enjoyed because it was formerly unfamiliar to me, and I loved learning so much about it, as well as the western part of the U.S.—the recreational activities there, the lingo, cowboys, horses, the humor and attire were all fascinating and fun lessons that will stay with me for a long time. The close-knit Bodine family and the camaraderie they shared was a true highlight, and anyone who reads this book is sure to be taken in by the endearing characters, especially the cowboy, Callen Skinner, whose gentlemanly ways and boyish charm won me over. By the time I was finished with the book I was ready to take a trip to Montana.
Come Sundown had strong characters and a great story. This book contained a lot more grit than any Nora Roberts book I’ve read but that shows her great diversity as a best-selling author.
Loved this book one of Nora Roberts best!
I have always been a fan and this had to be one of my favorite books. She really knows how to tell a good story and keep you on your toes
The story begins with a prologue about Alice Bodine returning home to the Bodine Ranch after running off to go to Los Angeles and become a movie star. Things did not go well for Alice in California and now they are only going to get worse. You are brought into the main story during present time and introduced to the rest of the Bodine and Longbow family. The four generation family lives together in two separate houses on the ranch which has now grown to include a resort. Once again Roberts intertwines many lives as you see how they come together as family and friends. Missing women and an old vengeance are put into play little by little. A good read with as usual wonderful Roberts characters.
Nora Roberts delivers another great book. This one is intriguing as it covers a long time period for one family and has volatile family dynamics in it. There is kidnapping, murder, and cult mentality along with horses, rodeo, and stunt riding. Set in Montana, the descriptions of both people, animals, weather and the natural beauty of Montana are well written.
Another great stand alone novel from Nora Roberts. This is a story of family, tragedy and love. It tells about a family of strong women that can overcome anything. I was caught up in it from the very beginning. Nora weaves everything together for a great ending. Just thought it was a little rushed at the end, but still felt it was great.
This is one of my absolute favorites by the queen of romance. The horror of the kidnapping of the young woman in the beginning and then they way the book would flow from present to past was written seemlessly. Bodine Longbow, was smart and couragous in both what was happening around her and in her personal life. Ms. Roberts always writes a story that is filled with richness and this book was no exception. It was an edge of the seat read, that was also filled with love and family.
Least favorite Nora Roberts book. Predictable, even though the beginning was twisted.
Another great crime mystery and romantic book by a great writer.
Psychologist Anna Fox lives alone in New York, but hasn’t been outside her home for ten months. She has become agoraphobic. Separated from her husband and daughter, Anna occupies her time by drinking too much, watching old movies, helping people on the Agora website, and playing chess online. Another way she spends her time is watching the houses and the people in them who live across the street. One night, she witnesses what she thinks is a murder, but when she tries to report it to the police, there is no body and nobody will admit that the woman ever existed.
The Woman in the Window is very reminiscent of the thriller, Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window. Anna is not a very likable character because of all the poor choices that she makes. There are some twists in the story, but most are very predictable, and the first half of the book is very slow. Overall, The Woman in the Window is a disappointment.
Kudos to the amazing storytelling talent of Nora Roberts! Once again she has penned a tale that holds the reader spellbound, ignites the emotions and stimulates the senses. Come Sundown is filled with remarkable women, the men that cherish them, a sinister presence among them, and all of the magnificent natural splendor of Montana. All in all, a sensational and unforgettable reading experience you won’t want to miss!
I am a huge fan of Nora Roberts. Come Sundown is, IMHO, the best book she’s written to date. It’s hard to put down. The characters, storyline, the nail biting suspense keep you intrigued.
I enjoyed this book. Nora Roberts is a great writer, and I have never read one of her books I did not enjoy. This one has a lot of turns and twists in it that leaves the reader wondering until the end.
I am a huge Nora Roberts Fan. She never disappoints.
A masterclass in how to keep readers glued to the page. I couldn’t put it down, so got nothing done for a couple of days. I live in an English city so a Montana ranch is another world. But I felt like I was there. It was quite dark in places but that makes you root for the characters more, especially poor tragic Alice. I loved it.
Great characters
I received this book through a Goodreads’ giveaway.
I’m a longtime Nora Roberts fan so I was very excited to receive this book. And I wasn’t disappointed.
It starts out with Alice Bodine trying to make her way home three years after leaving the day of her sister’s wedding. But she never makes it. Twenty-five years later she’s found on the side of the road. The story shocks the town and the Bodine clan to it’s core.
This is a suspenseful romance. But it’s also about how a family can come together to weather all of life’s storms. The solid writing and well flushed out characters is something I’ve always liked about Roberts’ work. I’d definitely recommend this book to others who enjoy a good suspenseful romance.
This was such a great book by Nora Roberts. It was a mystery and thriller without being to gory or creepy. This was not a book about romance. It was about a long ago kidnapping that people didn’t even know had happened and there was murder and mystery. It was quite intense at times. I loved it.
I love all of Nora’s books, but I just finished Come Sundown, and it’s pure Nora. Full of love, characters you want to be friends with, with just the right touch of drama to keep you turning pages. I loved it!
