I’ve only recently discovered audio books. Since I knew I liked Lisa Scottolini’s work, I went looking in Overdrive (library) for one of her audio books. This one was available so I grabbed it. It was only the 3rd audio book for me and at first I was surprised that the narrator “acted” out the roles. Since I wasn’t expecting it, I was a bit thrown. However, in the end, the narration added to the tension and drama of the story.
I love a good family drama and Ms. Scottolini wove that into a suspenseful setting and plot. So kind of a two-fer. I found my heart aching for the main character as she navigated the waters of being an ex-step-mom and asking the question of “does love end just because a marriage does?” From my own experiences, I can say that no, it doesn’t. There is no word in the English language for the ex of someone who dies. They aren’t a widow. They aren’t anything. But I can honestly say, that yes, they are something, and just signing on the dotted line to end a marriage doesn’t end the feelings.
If you like family drama, and twisted suspense, this is a book for you.
I read this book in reverse order, but I don’t think it matters. Jill Farrow is a pediatrician
and she has a family 2 girls and
the book is fast-paced with lots of twists and turns.
Its like an action packed movie for the mind.
A very scary believable story. I didn’t want to put it down.
The murder mystery was a good story line, a bit clouded over by the drama of some of the characters, though. Overall, it is a good read with a satisfying conclusion.
This book was an interesting take on family … or ex-family … relationships. There is mystery, intrigue, danger, and action throughout the pages. I loved the main character, Jill Farrow. However, her fiance just irritated me. As the story unfolds, you will develop strong feelings about the characters.
Great read with twists and turns that keep you guessing.
This is the story of a divorced mother who is finally getting her life back on track after a bad divorce. She is about to remarry, has a job as a pediatrician, and her daughter is a happy teenager. Things take a turn when her ex-stepdaughter, Abby, shows up at her house one night claiming that her dad was murdered and begs Jill to help. Jill agrees – even though her fiance doesn’t approve – and finds that things don’t add up. It does look like her ex-husband’s death was not accidental. The further involved she gets with her ex-stepdaugher’s life and the supposed murder, the more in danger she becomes.
I didn’t like this book at all. It was truly awful. The characters were boring, and I rolled my eyes more than once at the constant “I love yous” and hugs these people had for each other. It was overkill and poorly written. I just have nothing good about it. I understand this author has a lot of other good books, and I put one on my challenge for next year, but after reading this….I might re-think it.
Stay away.
