Come Back to the Ballpark, Maisy Gray is a romantic comedy about a reluctant woman who is a baseball team’s lucky charm and the man who must get her back in the game… the very day her ex pitches a no-hitter.
“Maisy’s back!” The newspaper headline credits the miracle on the mound to the return of the lucky girl who was once a fixture in the stands. Now, frenzied Turbos fans want Maisy to sprinkle her magic pixie dust over their team again.
Turbos General Manager, Sam Hunter, doesn’t believe in superstition. But he likes his job, so he agrees to his boss’s stupid plan to get the pretty rabbit’s foot back to the stands. He’ll seduce Maisy, reunite her with her ex, offer money, and do whatever it takes to win. It should be easy. Except it’s not. And when the seduction part of the plan backfires, it’s not just the season that’s at stake. It’s Sam’s heart.

Actually I am still reading this book. It is an absolute hoot! I am about 3/4 of the way and am reading it closely. If you skim even a little you are going to miss a lot. I wasn’t expecting much because this was a freebie. Happy surprise. Even though the background is baseball (ugh) the author seems to know her stuff and the characters are diverse and each interesting in their own way. It is a well crafted story about Americans and offers insight into a sliver of our culture in a funny heart warming way. Try it you’ll like it. I’m going to hunt out other books by this author.
Come Back to the Ballpark, Maisy Gray by Cynthia Tennent
Comeback Romance Series #1
Maisy teaches fourth grade. Her life imploded when her childhood sweetheart and fiancé called the wedding off shortly before the wedding. After putting more effort into Kevin’s profession than into her own skills she was a bit at a loss when her life changed so abruptly. So, she went home to lick her wounds.
A few years later she is at the ballpark with her students only to learn that Kevin is pitching and that is not who was supposed to pitch. Being back in the bleachers was hard enough but then to have to look down at her ex on the field…even worse. When Kevin’s pitching slump seems to take a turn for the better and some wily newspaper sports writer writes about the slump being linked to Maisy’s being away so long she becomes “the lucky charm” and the owner wants her there front and center to keep the winning streak going.
Now, how to get a spurned lover back to the ballpark? That is what Sam Hunter is faced with. The fact that he met her in a bar and thought she was hot has nothing to do with getting her to Indianapolis…nope…not at all. So, will his manipulations work? Will she go? Will she be the lucky charm? What will happen? AND…will she get back with Kevin or find something better in Sam?
The two need to communicate more than they do at first but once they do and realize what is truly important in life their lives soon move in a positive direction.
Not sure BUT I think this series is going to center around a town named…Comeback. That said, there were more than a few people mentioned in the book that could have stories told in Indianapolis where the Turbos baseball team resides.
I enjoyed this book that is more a story of growth and finding out what is truly important in life than it is a story of baseball. I enjoyed the insights, family support, friendships and care that were shown for others. The doofus of a team owner should get a comeuppance but doubt he will as money often wins out in the short run.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Do I want to read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to the author for the copy to read and review – This is my honest opinions and rating.
