I just can’t…
I just can’t hardly tell y’all how much I am loving this series!!
It’s so hard to put into words..and also not give anything away!!
I sit there holding my breath each time I turn the page..freaking out..thinking about what is about to happen next lol
Okay..into the final book..3rd book….Gahhh I hope my heart can hold up!!!
This is the second book in this series Cityscape Affair Series and I absolutely couldn’t wait to dive straight into it. This story carries on from the first book Come Undone and carries on with Olivia and David’s story which is epic by the way.
Olivia is still having an extremely tough time of it especially with everything that has happened. She’s still feeling very guilty and very torn in a million directions but doesn’t think she is worthy of feeling that happy. She’s still very withdrawn when it comes to her husband Bill and I think she wants to feel like he cares about her feelings deep down rather than just brushing under the carpet things he doesn’t want to hear.
David is still as hot as ever and has been extremely patient and has been giving her the time and space she needs but deep down it’s killing him and he can’t take much more. David is still completely and utterly in love with Olivia and no matter what he does to try and forget or move on he can’t because she has his heart.
I couldn’t put this book down just as much as the first book and couldn’t take my eyes of David and Olivia’s journey. They have if possible a much stronger connection but the problem is Olivia won’t let herself feel it because she’s scared to death and all the while David wants her to take a leap of faith with him. This author writes fantastically and this story completely flowed, I loved that the reader can still feel connected to these two and totally invested in them. I was really rooting for them both because they have both been suffering terribly. This is one love story you don’t want to miss, I couldn’t put this book down and loved reading every single minute of it. I highly recommend that you read them both in order though so that you can follow exactly what is happening. I can’t wait to jump right into book 3, what an awesome book series this is.
Wow, just wow. What a heartfelt, angsty and juicy middle to this trilogy.
Olivia has been struggling with everything that happened in the first book. And so was David. No matter what they do or how they try, the universe has different ideas.
I am loving this story. It’s so much more than how it’s being perceived. It’s two adults that are really struggling with what is happening in front of them. Knowing what is wrong. But also knowing what is so right.
This series packs an emotional punch. It encourages the reader to be open minded and to be willing to see that there are two sides to every story and relationship. It’s not always black and white. There is no right or wrong. I appreciate that the author didn’t shy away from the sensitive subject. Instead, she forces you outside of you comfort zone while taking you through the emotional wringer. I need to know how it ends. I highly recommend taking a chance on this series.
Damn did I fall in love with this book series!!
I actually started reading this book on a whip. I saw a hot quote on Facebook and as I’ve had the series on my tbr for so long now I thought why not read it now. And damn, I did not get disappointed. I didn’t know what I would get into when starting the Cityscape Affair Series and damn did I fall hard! Olivia and David were just everything! I loved their story.
This series is definitely something else! I never expected to love it so much and go through so many emotions – give me all the FEELS!!! It’s something fresh and unique and definitely one of the most emotional and hottest books I’ve read this year, if not ever! It’s something you just have to experience for yourself.
The Cityscape Affair is a 3-book series (900+ pages) by Jessica Hawkins. It tells the story of Olivia who is married to Bill when she finds her soulmate, David.
Readers pretty much have to accept going in that this book is all about adultery. I was a little bit leery about that at first. I never really got over my discomfort with the topic but I do think Jessica Hawkins handles it well. She shows how Olivia and Bill’s marriage slowly unravels and they grow apart. The first book is just as much about Olivia and Bill as it is about Olivia and David.
Readers also have to buy into instalove. It was literally David’s and Olivia’s eyes meet across a crowded room and that was it. The intensity of their feelings, especially David’s dogged pursuit of the married Olivia, didn’t really resonate with me at first.
I really struggled with Olivia, the heroine, off and on. There were times that she waffled, going back and forth between Bill and David which was annoying. She didn’t always take responsibility for her actions and own up to having the affair that was the final nail in the coffin of her marriage to Bill. Oliva also came off at times as being overly self-centered.
That being said, Jessica Hawkins weaves a really compelling story. I was pretty engrossed in the story even though the whole topic of adultery made me uncomfortable.
On the outside Olivia looked perfect. On the inside she was screaming for help. Olivia was drowning in guilt as well as fear from her past. Olivia poured all her energy into work shutting both Bill and David out emotionally.
Olivia’s character finally takes the time to process her emotions. Being with another man has given her new clarity on her marriage with Bill. She’s opened her eyes to herself.
Overall:
I could relate to Olivia’s doubts and concerns about herself and her relationship with her husband. Her concerns were plausible reasons for having fears of moving forward.
What really pulls the reader in is David’s honesty. He faces each situation head on and really reads Olivia. He’s dialed in to her mannerisms, her body language, and her tells. I know David is older but he also seemed wiser. The way he knew how to guide Olivia was perfection. He was in tune to her emotional state.
Jessica’s writing style lines up with my interest of an emotionally driven story. The way she captured Olivia’s emotions had me pausing to recount my own feelings. I share so many personality traits with Olivia’s character. I couldn’t help but compare her situation to my own.
I couldn’t help but get attached to David as well. His motives were honorable despite the circumstances. I found his qualities attractive with how he could withhold his desire to build a better relationship.
From the first glance, I was inlove with Olivia and David. The road was messy and hurt. Olivia with her insecurities and uncertainty. I was bawling my heart out!
Wow! You only think book one will keep you on the edge of your seat. Olivia must make a possible life changing decision and it’s defiantly a rollercoaster ride!
How many of us, women, stay in a toxic relationship? Just because it’s “safe”. Just because it’s comfortable. Just because people around us say so. Just because there’s no other life we know other than the “perfect” life we have.
With the cliffy ending on book one, with this book POV from Olivia, we see all her inner strugle and how she settle in her marriage just to seem perfect. Her “fine” is her way keeping safe distant from everyone around her. Until David broke that molde.
I mean, how can a woman can’t have orgasm even with her own husband and he never wonder or push her to explain why? Or maybe simply asking her what are the scar on her body came from?
Her marriage is already broken from the get go. David coming is only proving it on point for Olivia, for me. I won’t say it’s cheating of heart at this point. Cause Bill the husband never own her heart.
But daaaang those angst this book bring? Heavy. Very heavy. But so on point! Bravo for Jessica Hawkins. Can’t wait to read the next and finale book
S-M-O-K-I-N-G!
After the cliffhanger at the end of Come Undone, I could not start book 2 fast enough.
The triangulated situation with Olivia, Bill and David got seriously emotional and controversial.
Well written and well paced, these characters are far from perfect and not always likable.
I’m not liking Olivia’s guilt and her back and forth gave me an annoying case of whiplash
What a ride!
I’m loving the complexity of this complicated situation and I cannot wait to see how it all ends.
Book two of this compelling trilogy really ups the angst and emotion. The attraction between David and Olivia seems almost elemental and their chemistry burns so brightly. As their story picks-up you are quickly pulled back in and become consumed as the story continues to unfold. This is definitely a series that tugs on your heartstrings, makes you think and has you feeling swoony. I still think David is awesome and I still wish that Olivia could just make a firm decision. I’m very eager to see how it all ends in book three. This is my frank, freely posted review.
A continuation of Come Undone, the story of Olivia, Bill, and David becomes more intense. The chemistry between Olivia and David is unmistakable. There are so many emotions involved that I was frustrated and breathless all at the same time.
I was so excited to find out what would happen to Olivia after the heartbreaking ending in the last book. This second book is even more compelling and thought provoking as the first one was. We learn more about each character, giving them a richness and depth that makes them even more intriguing. I loved the push and pull between Olivia, David and Bill. My sympathies ebbed and flowed as this story grappled with the idea of either settling into a good, safe life or fighting for the soul mate who makes you come alive?! This story has challenged me in every way and I didn’t always like their decisions and actions, but life is messy, never perfect, and it allows us to find beauty in those imperfections. I am so invested in these characters along with their friends who add so much to this story as well. The ending left me breathless and I can’t start the next book fast enough!
The level of angst inside these pages could turn into a ball of flame. Come Alive picks right off where Come Undone finishes. I thought the angst was sky high in the first book but Come Alive literally brings the angst alive. The constant battle with the decision she had to make literally made my face wrinkle and my chest ache. Jessica Hawkins had done it again with her impossible story lines that make you root for a person you didn’t think you would.
Warning: This book does contain cheating so if that is a hard limit for you to read about, be warned. However, if you like to live through your books, truck on ahead. ALSO, make sure you read Come Undone before Come Alive.

The angst is ramped up in the second part of the Cityscape series as Olivia and David continue on the ‘will they won’t they’ path.
In a love triangle your heart always goes out to the one who has had the dirty done on them and in this instance my heart breaks for Bill . You can feel the torn emotions Olivia is going through between keeping her commitment to Bill or following her heart to be with David. Whilst you always think you know which way the heroine will go you can never second guess this author because she has a habit of doing the unexpected.
This series is hot, emotional and full of feelings that you get when you meet someone that sets your world on fire!
Come Alive is number two of the Cityscape Affair Series and I don’t know why I didn’t pick this up sooner, I read number one ages ago and then life got in the way, picking this up was like picking up an old love affair, it warmed me and made me feel amazing. When we follow Olivia in her journey, she will show you her strength, but also her vulnerability as we all have that one who we can never move past. This makes you question things you have thought in the past, question how you would face the grief and loss, put yourself in Olivia’s shoes and understand her and what makes her tick. What a compelling second story, where some may loss their way a little, Jessica Hawkins shows us her talent in making the story flow and just make you so eager for number three, this just feels like an extension of the first story rather than a second instalment.
She has me hooked! onto book 3
** spoiler alert ** Let me start by saying that Jessica Hawkins is a gifted writer. She does an amazing job of character development and her writing style is effortless and all consuming. So natural and free. I loved this #2 book in this series because the writing was so in point. However, I will say, Olivia gets on my every last nerve! I hated her in this book. The yes, no, yes, no, yes, no back a forth pissed me off to be honest. She didn’t want to commit to David, but she didn’t want him to have anyone else. The fact that David was so patient is crazy. That being said, the real, raw emotions experienced by the characters is intense. I’m sure these are the feelings that arise under these circumstances. Guilt, shame, love, hate, lust, love. Gahhhhh!!! I’m addicted. What will boom #3 bring?
