From New York Times Bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new standalone set in her Everyday Heroes world. Just how hot will firefighter Grady Malone turn up the heat?Songwriter Dylan McCoy has been burned.By her boyfriend she found in her bed . . . with someone else. By the contract she signed that obligates her to work with him until the songs for his new album are complete.By her agent when … work with him until the songs for his new album are complete.
By her agent when she asked Dylan to keep their breakup on the down-low.
When she finds herself in Sunnyville, she refuses to let her new roommate burn her too. Still . . . a rebound has never looked so good.
That’s her first thought when she sees firefighter Grady Malone.
Sexy. Charismatic. Unapologetic. He’s a man who carries his own scars—the ones on his back, the survivor’s guilt on his soul, and the fear in his heart.
When an unexpected visitor puts their roommate status to the test, will their undeniable attraction burn out, or will they both take a chance and play with fire?

“Something stirs in my belly. The kind of stir full of equal parts giddy, hopeful, and lustful that you feel when you realize you would be more than okay if the man took an interest in you.”
Wow. So, this was an interesting combination: songwriter meets firefighter. Now, I love any story about a fireman, policeman, military officer, and well… you get the idea. I’d never have imagined a songwriter would get thrown into the mix with the likes of such men, but when something works — it just works.
*sigh* These two. Dylan was surprisingly relatable, even though she lives a life I couldn’t even imagine. Some of her struggles, insecurities, and worries are absolutely ones that I’ve dealt with myself. When she has to relocate to deal with some rather unhappy revelations, a little small town living does her well. This is a character that I enjoyed reading, because although she has received many accolades for her success, she kept focused on her talent, rather than what she could receive from it. This heart, I believe, is what really made her a good fit for Grady.
Grady, oh Grady. I fell in love with him SO QUICKLY. I didn’t see it at first, but it quickly became apparent that there was so much more to him than met the eye. I can’t believe how much he kept within himself, only to shower love and happiness on everyone else. There’s so much to his story, so much he has faced, that I couldn’t begin to divulge it in this review. But, trust me, when I tell you that this man deserves love as much as any (fictional) man I’ve met.
When Dylan and Grady (finally!) figure it out, man oh man! If a man ever gave me what Grady gives to Dylan, I’d be a goner.
“I’m not asking to be your whole world, Dylan, I just want to be a part of it. I want to be the part that revolves around you. I want to be the one who grounds you so we’re forced to come home to each other, even when we’re mad. I want to provide the arms that hug you and the hands that hold yours through whatever adventure awaits us. I want you and whatever the two of us decide we want for our future.”
Yep. Totally, completely, absolutely IN LOVE. This was a fantastic read and gave enough angst and uncertainty to keep me satisfied, while never allowing me to lose hope.

I am so in love with Grady an Dylan right now!
Combust is book 2 in the Everday Heroes series, while it’s not necessary to read them in order I highly suggest not missing out on Grant Malone’s story, I mean who doesn’t love a strong, sexy officer of the law?
Grady Malone.
Sexy firefighter, doesn’t believe he’s deserving of a lasting relationship. His past and the scars it left on him have made him a firm believer that he has nothing to offer anyone.
Dylan McCoy.
Gorgeous songwriter staying at her brothers friends home (Grady) while trying to complete an album after her relationship ended with a bang.
Both of these people need someone who loves them as they are, neither of them think that’s truly possible for differing reasons.
Combust is full of feels; adoration, love, lust, complete and utter disgust, attraction, denial and a touch of jealousy.
Fighting, a little making up, acceptance and realizing you are more than you though.
Add in an adorable pig and what more could you want?
This book has a bit of everything.
I’m 28 books in this year an Combust has jumped to the top of the list, it’s my favorite of the year.
Exceptionally moving with all the feels, Combust completely engulfs you with its originality and passionate storyline.
This book is so much more than just a hot cover. It’s beyond emotional, tugging on the reader’s heartstrings, and matches the continuous heat that burns with desire and attraction.
The story captures the reader’s attention from the very beginning. Grady and Dylan’s initial spark of chemistry grows until their connection explodes off the pages, immersing you further into their complex and unique relationship.
Both characters have pasts, pasts that dictate their thoughts and actions that no one can honestly understand except each other. But both pasts prevent each other from truly living the second chance they were given. Their wounds run deep, and to see how Grady and Dylan found their healing in each other shows that real heroes don’t wear capes.
K. Bromberg is a master at exceptionally written stories with a powerhouse of raw and relatable emotional situations. Combust conveys the hardships of choices made, heartbreaking loses, and love that is found in the least likely of circumstances. This book will singe your heart with its compelling, arousing, and touching love story.
5 Scorching Stars!
I’m completely and utterly blown away. This was one of those books you want to devour in one sitting, but savor every single word at the same time. It’s one of those stories that completely suck you in and you can’t catch a breath before you’ve reached The End.
I knew this was going to be an emotional read from the very beginning, but boy, was I prepared for what hit me. There was so much heart and emotions put in this book that I felt every word like it burned itself into the very core of my soul. Everything was so immaculately written there were sentences and paragraphs I read and re-reread several times just to relish each feeling and experience the beauty behind it over and over.
Grady Malone – the youngest of the three Malone brothers we met in Cuffed. He seemed like this hotshot – cocky, sexy and with a good sense of humor. And he was all that. But he had so much more of himself to offer to us. He was a firefighter, but it was the fire inside of him that he was trying to put out – his insecurities, his haunting past and the guilt he lived with every day. Afraid to face his fears, afraid to live to the fullest, afraid to open his heart and let someone in.
But then came Dylan McCoy. She was this determined and defiant woman with a talent for music. She was confident in what she did for a living, but she had doubts about herself on a personal level. I saw so much of myself in her and her story hit so close to home for me on so many levels. I felt really connected with her character and loved her instantly. And although Grady and Dylan seemed like they had nothing in common, their connection was undeniable. Their love story started as a slow burning fire that was truly heartwarming but then some sparks ignited and everything exploded in one scorching hot mix of passion, lust and need.
Their chemistry was indeed COMBUSTIBLE. Their attraction off the charts hot and soon with some fuel thrown into the mix their smoldering feelings grew into an inferno of desire and heart-melting love.
And although this couple certainly turned up the heat in the bedroom, there was so much more to this story than that. There were moments which were excruciatingly painful to read and shattered my heart into a million pieces, but then it was sealed back together with the sincerity of their feelings and their openness to each other.
Little by little they started to revealed layer after layer of themselves in front of each other. The question was whether this would be enough to push them to face their fears and rise? Or would they run away again?
This was one truly poignant and beautiful book and I loved every single minute of it. The love story was front and center, but I enjoyed all the other little touches that made this the perfect package. The interactions between the whole Malone family. The connection and the relationship between the brothers, their closeness and support for each other, even when they were giving each other sh*it. The song lyrics – such a beautiful part of this story. The ending that was so intense and so action packed, I thought my heart was going to come out of my chest and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what was happening. I was a sobbing mess at some point, there was some serious nail-biting and cussing involved, but it was so worth it. And as in every other book by Kristy Bromberg there was a loud and clear message behind this story that seared itself into my mind and heart and would stay with me for a long time to come.
Think you could handle all that heat? Get ready to have your panties and hearts on fire. At least we know we could count on one Grady Malone to put this fire out. Or maybe he will ignite a new one. Find out for yourself.

Wow, this book really surprised me. This book took a turn so different from what I imagined reading the synopsis. But this book is simply amazing and just what I wanted. The writing is fluid and simply brilliant, sometimes it felt like I was there with those characters living in those situations.I loved that the book was written in double point of view, so I could understand what Dylan and Grady were feeling.
a place to forget your ex-boyfriend’s and musical partner betrayal , that’s what Grady and Sunnyville were to mean for Dylan. But sometimes life shows that we’ve been waiting for your whole life just coming from the most unexpected places.
Dylan and Grady, both are complex characters, with their insecurities and fears to overcome and maybe that’s what made them so human and real to me.See them learning to trust each other, forming a friendship that soon becomes something more it was delicious to watch.Every interaction between them I was anxious waiting and hoping for these characters, not to mention their chemistry’s alight.
Combust is another great book by k. Bromberg, one of those books that you’re sad because it’s over.It is a book that made me laugh, cry, cheer to each page. Not absolutely nothing in this book that I don’t love.A book that is very worthwhile to read if you like a beautiful novel, a story well written and a captivating storyline.
This book was everything!!! It had me cracking up at some parts, and sobbing in others. K. Bromberg has a way of putting you right in the story, making you feel the triumphs and heartbreak each character feels in this book.
Both Dylan and Grady have demons they are trying to overcome, and with each other they begin to do that. Dylan didn’t start off as a heroine I would normally like. She was just a little too insecure for me, but over time she grew on me. Grady is one of my favorite heroes. He’s got this vulnerable side that makes you want to just cuddle him, but keeps it pretty locked up, so only those closest to him truly know his pain. Seeing these two start to heal and find their happily ever after was a fun ride, and I can’t wait to get the next story in this series.
This is definitely a must read!!!
Okay, I knew Grady Malone’s story was going to be amazing, sexy and fun, but I didn’t count on Combust being a bit heart breaking, heart wrenching, and heart warming. Yep, I meant to type all three of those descriptive terms. Let me break it down for you.
Heart breaking: We have Dylan McCoy dealing with the discovery of her long term boyfriend cheating on her in her own bed. Ewww, on top of “what a jerk” and healthy dose of “how could he?” Poor Dylan is stuck dealing with all that and her contractual obligation to complete the songs she’s actually co-writing with that jerk. I adored her and her coping mechanisms and her attempts to keep looking forward. Even when she’s feeling vulnerable, she keeps trying.
“Fear has two meanings, son. Forget everything and run. Or face everything and rise.”
Heart wrenching: God, Grady about killed me with his survivor’s guilt. And his need to try to make up for the loss and to apologize for living and to continue working in a job he loves despite all that happened. I wanted to reach out and give the man hugs constantly, to just be there for him, even though he wasn’t ready or wanting to talk.
“Mm, I don’t think you can put this fire out, Malone.” “You bet your ass I’m going to try.”
Heart warming: Grady and Dylan together was something to behold. They tried so hard *cough* err, that’s not all that was hard *cough* to fight off their feelings, tried to deny that there was a bit something more than mere “roommate” status. But their chemistry was Combust-able, and so damn sexy. I loved how they loved . . . even when in complete and total denial.
And let’s talk about Grady’s family—his brothers Grayson and Grant. I loved how they interacted, how they fought for and with each other. Wanting the best for each other; wanting Grady to work through his shroud of sadness and guilt. And of course there’s their parents who just want their sons to be happy.
And that’s just how Combust ended for me. With a full and happy heart—a heart that went through quite a battering but came out whole in the end. ~ Missy, 5 stars
