Colton’s Secret History is the third title in the multi-author series, Coltons of Kansas and it is an intriguing, dangerous, and suspenseful second chance romance for Bridgette and Luke. Their story advances the ongoing situation woven through all of the stories in this series plus adds more information, and perhaps more intrigue to the connection Colton Construction has to the cancer rate among employees. Both the ongoing suspenseful situation and the current stalker who is after Bridgette and Luke fill this story with enough suspense and edge of the seat moments to satisfy any Romantic Suspense reader.
The reader knows from the beginning precisely who the stalker is that is after first Luke and then Bridgette. We’ll see the situation from both sides, and while that does (for some) take away the discovering the bad guy aspect, it also gives a very detailed view into how the mind of this particular stalker works, how they react to things they’ve done, and how they manage to trick their family into believing all is well. I found it fascinating to see through this character’s eyes, where everything they were doing made perfect sense… to them.
Luke and Bridgette were once young lovers before college. Time apart, career choices, and one secret that Bridgette held close to her heart ended what once was. Now that she’s back home investigating the cancer clusters that seem to center around her father’s business she knew that she’d have to face Luke again, eventually. She just didn’t expect to be living in the same building with him. The past never truly stays in the past, and feelings never really fade away when they were true from the beginning. The same is true for this couple as the love that was once there flares to life once again. It was heartbreaking at times and heartwarming at others to watch their journey back to each other as they faced very real danger almost every day.
I enjoyed myself immensely in Colton’s Secret History as Bridgette and Luke reunite, face dangers and family situations together. Their romance felt very realistic and full of “what’s going to happen next” moments that always keep me glued to my e-reader. If you enjoy suspenseful, engaging Romantic Suspense then you’ll want to check out this story, and this series for yourself.
I own a Kindle edition of Colton’s Secret History.
4 1/2 STARS!
Will their reunion be cut short when a stalker gets too close? With the third book in the intriguing Coltons of Kansas series Jennifer D. Bokal delights readers with a reunion of first loves with some intrigue and stalking mixed in to keep things exciting. The ending was a tad abrupt, but I enjoyed their story a lot and look forward to more secrets being uncovered as the series continues.
Bridgette Colton is a character that nabs your heart easily as a reader. Her chance at forever was short lived and the young widow finds it comforting that her latest case has brought her home to family and Braxville. What she wasn’t expecting at all was to get up close and personal with her first love again.
Luke Walker is kind-hearted and comforting, so it’s easy to see why the town turns to him for companionship and help. He can’t deny the skip of his heart when he sees Bridgette again and is interested to know why she acts like he is the bad guy of the past.
I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who enjoys an extended family who always has each others back mixed with an ongoing mystery to keep us guessing and an interesting plot of it’s own in each book.
