I had nothing until I had her. Harley. My Muse. I used to remind myself to never let my feelings get too intense or serious. Not over a woman. Never. That’s not the man I am. But she changed everything. It all started with a single stolen glance at my book signing. My gaze never left her that afternoon, and an innocent meeting ignited a spark inside of me that I still haven’t recovered from. The … recovered from.
The words that filled the pages of my novels, words that had ceased to exist, starting pouring from me when I met her.
But the ghosts of my past have crept back into my life unexpectedly, jeopardizing my ability to be with her, and the future I know we can have together. I want to fight for her—for us—and to be the man I know I can be.
I’m a Wordsmith.
Let me tell you our story.

Great characters…a great sequel to Knight. Looking forward to the next book in the series. You will love the story and want to see what happens next with the characters. Especially with the girls that are friends and are attracted to the 3 authors.
I get into this series because it is so relateable thanks to being a book person. I find it challenging in reading when a guy says not gonna especially when it comes to women. This one happens to fall into that category. Actually it is the author whom is the magician but uses Colton to capture us and when he meets Harley we will be lost to this. Their story will be the one that jumps from the pages due to the magic of the words. See the layers peeled we get the real. The type of characters they really are too will come through when the trials begin. This is one ride that is fabulous to experience.
Every author has their own writing style and this author definitely has his own. His hero’s are always cocky, strong, a little dirty, and insecure. I’m not talking about the cocky billionaires who pout when they don’t get their way or have a top level law firm at their beck and call when they get in trouble, but realistic characteristics of men you might know in real life, but possibly way hotter. His heroine’s are usually kickass in their own ways. They aren’t necessarily looking for love or a man to save them, they just happen to find the right guy at the right time in their life. And each story having that wonderful HEA closure.
That being said, this describes Colton and Harley; both dealing with issues from their pasts, but in the end doing the work that needs to be done so their relationship can work. The ground work was laid back in Knight (Wordsmith Chronicles #1) for Harley and Colton’s relationship. Once again, there are real life relationship issues that the average reader can relate to. It’s a step down from the physical intimacy in Knight, but still hot nonetheless. To me, it seemed the repetitiveness of the characters thoughts and dialogue that I’m used to seeing in this author’s work wasn’t as prevalent in this story.
Turns out the world of the Wordsmith’s is happening in the same universe as NYC’s Finest, so get ready to check in with Calem and Cordelia. I wonder who else might make an appearance in the next book. More prep work was done to help lay the foundation for book 3, Gray and Ro’s story.
Colton is the second book in this series. If you read the first book then you know Colton is an MMA fighter and an trying to make it on the indie author world. I didnt think I’d love this more than Knight but Christopher made me feel like I was there right along with Colton. Gave us a peek again into the process of what an indie author faces and does through. Cant wait for the next book.
Freakin loved Colton! This series is by far, IMO, the BEST work of this author to date.
The thing I love most about these books is the fact that I feel like I am there. Standing behind the character, peeking over their shoulders, checking their social media, helping make ganache ( ), wiping tears, filling a glass of wine and facing their demons. This book will definitely suck you into the Wordsmith world, and keep you captive until the end. Trust me, you won’t want to leave, because I sure didn’t!
Sorry but I’m not going to give away any spoilers of any kind because I’m not the type that does that.
Lol which I think probably annoys a lot of people when I do that. 😉
So this is all I’m going to say about this book and that is I thought it was totally freaking amazing.
Christopher Harlan definitely knows how to hook his readers and take them on an exciting ride.
Which is probably why he’s becoming one of my favorite authors!
So yes I most definitely recommend this book to anyone who’s interested in crawling into this story and getting lost within its pages.
The Wordsmith Chronicles continues with Colton Chase’s story. Colton is the MMA writing bad boy who finds himself in a serious predicament at the end of Knight, Wordsmith Chronicles #1. He has a bad temper and uses his fists to solve a problem. He is struggling to rise in the indie book world with his Wordsmith brothers Knight and Grayson.
When he comes face to face with the possibility of prison, Colton is forced to come to terms with situations from his past so he is not doomed to repeat the same mistakes in the future. He recognizes that in order to move forward with his writing and forming a solid relationship with book fan Harley he needs to change his ways. Colton faces many challenges in this story. As we follow Colton on his quest we can see him changing for the better.
As a backdrop for the series, Harlan takes his readers on a journey through the trials and tribulations of the independent author. He invites us to catch a glimpse of what it takes to write, publish and market their books. In his fictional world we see the good and bad in what makes up the indie book world.
Christopher Harlan delivers a steamy read full of laughs, angst and heart!
Book two of The Wordsmiths series definitely did not disappoint. The development of the characters and story line kept me engaged throughout this book.
Following Colton on his path of writing, troubles with the brotherhood and his budding relationship with Harley; is so wonderfully written with the right mix of serious and wit to be perfect.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series Grayson.
Enjoyed Colten very much. Great addition to the series and I can’t wait to get the next one in my hands!
I love the way Christopher writes and have enjoyed everything he’s written. I’d definitely recommend not just this series but all of his books.
Colton is a great, well defined character. I fell like this book is simply a continuation of the underlying story of The Wordsmiths. I kinda feel cheated in regards to The development between Harley and Colton. I loved the fact that Colton is getting in touch with his inner demons of his past and working to improve himself. I just wanted more between him and Har.
Grayson…. Christopher Harlan definitely teased us with a brief insight into Grayson & Rowan’s points of views, which then left me hanging. I don’t mind cliff hangers at all and I really enjoyed the way he transitioned from one story line to the next in preparation for Grayson. However, I think the story could have gone just a little deeper with Harley before the transition was made. Hopefully we will see Knight & Ev marry, Harley & Colt engage and see what lies in Grayson’s future and the future of The Wordsmiths.
Anger: A strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure, hostility and antagonism. Full of rage.
Muse: A source of inspiration, a guiding genius.
“ I’m not in control of my muse, my muse does all the work.”
Ray Bradbury
Colton realized that if he didn’t take control of his anger it would engulf him and bring him nothing but heartache. He understood that talking about his past would pave the way to a more productive future, which is what he desperately wanted. Your life becomes clearer when you can bury the demons of your past. He needed to channel his anger so he could relax his mind and body, and once that was achieved, he knew that the words would begin to flow and the conclusion would be in his sights.
Finding that special someone who you truly connect with will be the bright spot to any bad day. Colton knew immediately, after just one glimpse of her, that he would do anything for Harley, and that she held his future in the palm of her hand. She was the key that unlocked the voices in his head so that he could write once again. Harley captivated Colton into creating words that he thought were lost. She served as his inspiration, as well as helping him to overcome his sins.
Harley was his angel, his savior, his one true love.
Once again I am in awe of the brilliance of Christopher Harlan’s writing, but I am not surprised. You feel for the characters and you can understand exactly what they are going through. You become part of the story and you are so eager to find out what happens next, that it is impossible to put the book down. I love the Wordsmith Series, the concept, the characters and its accurate portrayal of the Indie writing community. I am looking forward to Grayson’s story, as well as the rest of the tales in the Wordsmith Universe.
“We all have demons, Harley. All of us. Some are worse than others, and some visit a little more often, but we’re all haunted by them.”
I. Absolutely. Love. Colton! He’s my favorite kind of hero – he’s broken and self-tortured, putting on a good face for everyone while struggling on the inside. The one who has the walls up, only to have the bricks toppled by the right woman. And the fact that he’s tall, dark, and handsome doesn’t hurt either!
Colton Chase has answered for his actions and is now faced with community service and anger management therapy. Better than jail time. He’s on a path of self-discovery, of facing the demons of his past, and who better to do that with than her. She’s beautiful, smart, and sassy, and she can see right through him. While the attraction was instant, she has wiggled her way in to his heart and he knows he’ll never be the same. The feud between the Wordsmiths and the Brotherhood is still going strong, but when it starts to involve Harley, will he be able to fix things with his words and his heart instead of his fists this time? He can’t let anything take her from him, no matter what the cost.
Harley knew she wanted Colton from the start. Sure, it was a phyiscal attraction at first, and maybe just a touch of fan-girl love, but it’s grown to so much more. She sees him – the real Colton. The one behind all the jokes and antics. They’re kindred spirits in a way – both broken by their past, both holding on to secrets. Both unable to keep their hands off each other. But, when the Brotherhood throws her past as a wedge between she and Colton, will it be enough to destroy them? She won’t let him go. Not now. Not ever. Are they strong enough to handle the truth?
Christopher Harlan is one of my favorite authors. I love his writing style. It’s eloquent. It’s real. It’s engaging and captivating. I love that we see characters from his NYC Finest series as well smattered in the pages of this series. I loved reading about Colton and Harley and watching them defeat their demons through the screen of my Kindle. This was another stellar read from Mr. Harlan and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
Colton is the second book in the Wordsmith series by Christopher Harlan.
I love this trio of male romance writers!
In addition to these memorable characters this book continues to give us insight into the in and outs and challenges of the indie author world.
Colton definitely has grown and matured as a character in this book. He is no longer the jokester and hot head that he was before and has found Harley who helps calm and ground him when he feels his demons approaching again.
A copy of this book was gifted to me from the author and I freely give my honest review*
I liked this story
* Good storyline with nice progression
* Characters are well described
* No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
* Enough dialogues to make the story interesting and going forward in a good pace.
* Sweet love scene
This was a solid 4 star read.
Another great book from Christopher Harlan. I loved Harley and Colton. They complimented each other perfectly. They both had demons from their past that they needed to over come. Definitely a must read for any indie book reader!!
