I really enjoyed this book. The way the author wove this story and characters together had me reading way too long into the night.
Callum Colton, a former Navy SEAL, works as a bodyguard for Executive Protection Services. Callum doesn’t like working with families but can’t refuse to take on little Evie Hart and her mother. After witnessing a crime, Evie was in danger. Moving in with them was the best way to protect them. But could he protect his heart from them?
Hazel and Callum had issues in their pasts preventing them from wanting to get into relationships. But fighting their attraction didn’t do them any good.
A great suspenseful book full of intrigue, romance and great characters. Loved the chemistry between Callum and Hazel.
Hazel Hart is an accomplished chef. Everyone at the upscale restaurant where she used to work raved about the dishes she prepared, but she wanted to be her own boss so she left the restaurant and started a meal service business. This gives her more time with her precious five-year-old daughter, Evie. Evie’s father left before Evie was born and never had anything to do with Evie. Hazel and Evie have just delivered meals to one of Hazel’s favorite customers and were about to enter Hazel’s car when Evie mentions she just saw a man hit another man on the head and dump him in the trunk. Before Hazel could process this announcement from Evie the car started racing towards them. Hazel wasn’t sure she could get them to safety before the car hit them. Fortunately well-respected bodyguard Callum Colton was outside his office and grabbed Hazel and Evie back and onto the sidewalk.
Callum Colton is a much-sought-after bodyguard whose one rule was that he never took mother-child cases. He had noticed Hazel and Evie from his office window and watched them. He also noted a car parked down the street that put him on alert for some reason. He had stepped outside his office so he saw the suspicious car start racing toward Hazel and Evie when they returned to their car and prepared to enter it. Calllum’s instincts kicked in and he janked them back out of harm’s way just in time.
The suspicious car raced away. The police are called and somehow Callum is at the police station agreeing to protect Hazel and Evie. He doesn’t do woman and child protection but somehow he finds Evie totally adorable and her mother much more than adorable. He is attracted to Hazel.
Colton Family Bodyguard by Jennifer Morey is the third book in the Coltons of Mustang Valley series, a Harlequin Intrigue series written by various authors. The series has an overall arc of a Colton family mystery of a baby switched at birth and the family patriarch shot and in a coma. This book moves the arc along as Callum and Hazel do some investigating and follow clues to help find some answers to the mystery. I am really enjoying this storyline and look forward to the next book in the
Lots of danger mixed with a touch of sweet, a smidge of sass and a whole lot of steam! With book three in the exciting Colton spin-off series The Coltons of Mustang Valley, Jennifer Morey takes us on an adventure filled emotional journey in COLTON FAMILY BODYGUARD. The intrigue had my attention right off the bat and the fast paced plot kept me riveted.
Callum Colton is a bit of a mystery to us so far in the series, so to learn his background story is very satisfying. The second he stepped in and helped a stranger and her little girl he endeared himself to me, and seeing him interact with that adorable little girl was super sweet.
Hazel Hart is easy enough to like. She’s working hard to make a satisfying life for her daughter and herself, so isn’t sure what to make of being thrown into a whirlwind of luxury amid the Coltons.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series so far to anyone who enjoys a fast paced story filled with intrigue and happily ever afters but who also likes the slow build of an on-going mystery that will fester throughout the entire series until the last book gives us answers.
