Engaging and heartwarming! The secrets, family drama with a wicked stepmother, suspense and slow-burn romance between well-drawn characters will keep you reading. I loved that Mia was strong and capable, but still recognized that she needed help. Jarvis comes along at just the right time and discovers he needs Mia as much as she needs him. Regan Black also delivers on an antagonist you will love to hate. This was a great read.
An intriguing family saga continues with a story of sweet yet emotion-filled romance where danger is a tangible force dictating life decisions, where malice is coming from those who should love and protect you, where tender affection and deep-rooted passion gives love a chance to win… Ms. Black writes stories with strong characters with vulnerable hearts and family values, who face the challenges and peril life throughs in their way while protecting their own.
A delightfully enjoyable tale of romance mixed with suspense.
Jarvis Colton was all the way through the was working on the ranch one day where nobody should be. He had been working on fixing the fence when he was done his normal to do list. So he was working on find something that had a family tree in or proof of who own the Triple R. Well he did this for days. Mia Graves had picked up her son from child care and kept getting threatening texts and phones from her step mom so she packed her son up and went into hiding. She didn’t know where she was she just was hiding out in this hut and the baby was fussy crying couldn’t get him to stop. This is when Jarvis heard the crying covered his hole and went looking for what was making the noice. He came upon the hut and hollered and nobody answered so he went in. Mia almost hit him in the head with a stick. He finally got things to where she talk to him and got the baby to stop crying. He talked her the next day to move to the bunkhouse which was safer and better for her and the baby. Also where nobody would find her. Threats kept coming in and with Jarvis around and closer she felt safer. The stepmother was a horrible person to her day and to her. She caught her cheating on her father and had it recorded. Jarvis finally told her to let him take this to the police which was his brother.this kept me on the edge of my chair. Regan you hit another home run. It was emotional and heartbreaking romantic suspense. The family part was tear jerking.
This is a true romance filled with suspenseful danger, a family mystery and a slow build to an unexpected but everlasting love. Mia is trying to find a safe haven for her and her baby boy when Jarvis drops into her life while looking for answers to his family’s roots. Although he’s not looking for anything more permanent then he already has, Mia and Silas just may be the answer he didn’t know he was looking for.
There’s plenty in this story to keep your interest from start to finish. The characters are well-drawn and engaging, and the storyline is fast-paced and entertaining. You get enough of the back story to make this a very captivating read without having read any of the previous books in the series. I highly recommend this intriguing and heartwarming romantic suspense.
Danger is right around the corner! With book eight in the Coltons of Mustang Valley series, Regan Black brings Jarvis’s story to life in COLTON COWBOY JEOPARDY.
Jarvis Colton is easy to like. He’s laid back and loyal to family and even though he’s on Rattlesnake Ridge Ranch for another reason than he states, he’s still working hard to better the ranch at the same time.
Mia Graves is attention grabbing. We quickly see the danger she perceives and watch her do anything in her power to protect her son. Stumbling upon Jarvis turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to her.
I recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys lots of intrigue with their romance. I’m looking forward to getting answers in the shooting mystery as the series plays out.
This book continues the Colton’s of Mustang Valley miniseries. I like Regan Black and have read several of her books but I had a hard time getting into the premise of this story. The characters are solid and the second half of the book definitely picked up.
Excellent book! The characters were interesting and engaging, and the storyline was intriguing. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. I’m looking forward to reading the next book from this author.
A story full of intrigue, suspense, and romance. Mia Graves has to protect her son at all costs. Jarvis Colton is looking for his family history. Unexpected, they team up, but is a happy ending in their cards? A story where sometimes the sayings “love is blind” and “beauty is only skin deep” are predominantly displayed. Mia is seen as a jealous daughter and Jarvis is seen as a crazy man for following the ramblings of an old man. Jarvis doesn’t think he has the ability to love and Mia needs that for her son. I loved the story and want to catch up on the rest of the series.
(4.5) Regan did a fantastic job making this an enjoyable read as a standalone. If you have not read books 1-7 you are not lost. Mia is divorced, wealthy and mom of a newborn. She is forced to leave her home due to the her step mother, who truly is evil and I say unhinged! Jarvis is a Colton, a triplet, cousin to the wealthy Coltons. In trying to uncover a mystery from his past he is working on the Coltons ranch and runs across Mia and her baby in a dilapidated shack. There is suspense, intrigue, romance, and I have to say I absolutely loved the way Regan wrote Jarvis when he is sent to take care of Ash Coltons rich ex stepmother. I was afraid it would be the trite “misunderstanding” and it wasn’t. He handled everything with class and wit. Well done. Did I lose you? Read the book I promise you will be happy you did. Thank you for the opportunity to receive this arc . I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.
Mia Graves and her stepmother Regina did not get along. From the time when Regina first entered Mia’s life they never got along. Things have deteriorated sharply. Fear is running rampant through Regina, putting her on the run. Regina has threatened her son and her father. Mia hadn’t known that Regina was using the Graves family country house for her extramarital affairs. She was starting a new career as a real estate agent after her divorce and the birth of her son Silas and her father was her first client asking her to sell the country house. When Mia shows up to video the country house for the listing she finds Regina and her lover and got them on video. Thus the threats by Regina for Mia to turn over the video or else. What else can she do but run with her infant son and hide? Her father always believes Regina over her. Mia is desperate. That’s how she ends up in the warming hut on the Colton family’s Triple R Ranch and that’s where Jarvis Colton finds her.
Jarvis Colton had a good job as a management consultant but gave that job up to become a cowboy. He got a job on the Triple R Ranch. (Jarvis’ branch of the family is not acknowledged by the Oil Coltons who own the ranch.) Jarvis found it was just right for him. Yes, he enjoys the job but it also gives him access to his quest location. His deceased grandfather, Isaiah Colton, always insisted that the Colton patriarch, Payne Colton’s ancestor stole the ranch from Jarvis’ ancestor. Isaiah told Jarvis there was a metal box buried on the property that could prove the claim. On his own time Jarvis is searching for the box. That’s how he discovers Mia and Silas at the warming hut. Jarvis isn’t one for falling in love and having his own wife and family. He always loses the ones he loves and doesn’t want to face that loss again, but he couldn’t not help Mia and baby Silas. He got them to a safer location and couldn’t stop going back.
Colton Cowboy Jeopardy by Regan Black is the eighth book in Harlequin’s The Coltons of Mustang Valley series. Regan Black does an phenomenal job of moving the storyline along at a perfect pace. Her characters are three-dimensional and quite interesting. She writes a mean antagonist. The plot will keep readers turning the pages. This story continues the overall arc of the mystery of Payne Colton’s shooting and the mysterious baby switch. This book easily can be read as a standalone but I believe readers will get more enjoyment out of reading the series from the beginning.
If you want to read a fantastic, ranch-style cowboy book…Colton Cowboy Jeopardy is the one!
In this Coltons of Mustang Valley series book, wealthy Mia Graves is hiding with her baby, from her awful step mother, and happens to be found by rancher Jarvis Colton, who is on a mysterious search of his own.
Author Regan Black writes such a great romantic storyline with a few twists and turns. There is mystery, heat, cowboys, and you can literally have all the feels! I love this series, and completely recommend this book! 5 shooting stars!
I have read several of her books but this is the first one in this series. We have MIa and Jarvis in this one about to give us a excellent suspense. With the danger in the horizon and growing we will see how Jarvis plans to keep them safe. That is not all he also has to solve a mystery that will have us close to him to help pick up the clues. The mystery will have you get caught up in it because you too want to know the answers. Mia is also the kind of woman that you like to follow. Of course the ending is the crescendo that gives you the satisfaction.
Jarvis is searching for answers about his family when he stumbles upon Mia and her son. I enjoyed reading this. I received an ARC of this and volunteered to review it.

Thank you Regan.
This was such a good book. Regan Black knows how to weave a story of suspense, danger, intrigue, and romance.
Mia Graves is on the run from danger with her tiny baby, Silas. Jarvis Colton is searching for proof that he is truly a part of the Colton family. Jarvis finds Mia hiding out and quickly develops more than protective feelings for her and her little boy.
What will Jarvis discover about his family’s history? Will he be able to live with the results? To what lengths will Mia’s stepmother go to to destroy Mia and her relationship with her father?
I couldn’t put this book down! It’s definitely one you will want to read!
This is such a great read! Romance, danger, suspense, mystery, and excitement all the way to the end; there is plenty to keep you reading and hold your interest. I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline. It is fast-paced, engaging, and heartwarming and I loved the slow build attraction, romance, and forever kind of love that Mia and Jarvis shared. Though this book is part of a larger series, enough information is provided so you do not feel lost and can easily be swept away in the adventure.
*I received an advanced copy from the author and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Jarvis is from a branch of the Colton family which did not have all the advantages of the main family line. Now working for his unknowing cousins, Jarvis is determined to find the documents that prove his family was ousted from their land.
Out riding the ranges he finds Mia hiding out with her baby son. She may clearly be at wits end, but she a is a true mama bear and will kill anyone who tries to harm her son. Reluctantly relying on this strangers help, she allows him to give her sanctuary in an off-grid cabin whilst she tries to come up with a plan to evict her evil step-mother from her family. Not easy when her father has essentially absented himself from her life and said wicked witch has threatened her BABY!
Oh I do love a baddie you can just unabashedly hate. Regina is the queen of wicked step-mothers! Mia is a great heroine, strong and feisty with a tiny touch of naivety. But don’t let that fool you, she is more than capable of looking after herself and her baby, she just needs a little assistance. Jarvis may not think he wants a family but he may just have had a ready made one drop into his lap!
Great characters, enticing storyline and great chemistry between the leads!
I enjoyed reading this story! Mia and her baby go into hiding from her stepmother because of what she saw and filmed. Jarvis is out looking for something that his Grandfather told him before he died and he hears a baby crying and that is how he finds Mia. Both of them have secrets and I love reading what happens and how it turns out!
Colton Cowboy Jeopardy
Regan Black
So many secrets can interfere with peoples’ lives. Mia and Jarvis unexpectedly find each other which starts new secrets added to the old ones. Can Jarvis keep Mia and Silas safe from her evil stepmother while still looking for his family’s hidden treasure?
I loved the growth that Jarvis made throughout the book in finding out how love played into his life.
Looking forward to seeing how the Selina problem is handled.
Once again a great read late into the night to see how it would end. Didn’t disappoint!
