Another fast-paced, intense entry in the Colton 911: Grand Rapids series. Pippa Colton is an attorney who was hired to prove that her friend’s mother was wrongly convicted of murder. It isn’t a popular position as the woman is rude, mean-spirited, and just plain nasty to those around her. Because of Pippa’s work, she has been receiving death threats. One of her brothers, Griffin, asked his friend Emmanuel Iglesias to keep an eye on Pippa. That creates some tension because Emmanuel is one of the detectives whose work convicted her client.
Though Pippa and Emmanuel know of each other, they don’t meet until he shows up at her home to investigate a break-in. Pippa doesn’t hide her dislike of him, but Emmanuel has no intention of backing down from doing his job. He also has his promise to Griffin to keep. I enjoyed seeing the two stubborn people butt heads as Pippa tried to get him to leave, and Emmanuel insisted on staying. Neither one expected the feelings that stirred – Emmanuel feeling protective and Pippa feeling safe while he’s there. There were also sparks of attraction that each tried to ignore.
Both Emmanuel and Pippa have a strong sense of justice. Even though they are on opposite sides of this case, both are determined to find the truth. I liked that they respected each other’s abilities and dedication. As they are thrown together by Emmanuel’s determination to keep Pippa safe, the sparks of attraction grow stronger, and the attraction quickly deepens to something more. I loved watching them get to know each other, from simple things like cooking together and watching television to understanding how the other’s mind works. I loved the ending, especially Emmanuel’s nervousness. Pippa’s reaction was terrific.
The suspense of the story was fantastic and kept me hooked from start to finish. It opens with Pippa’s difficulties being allowed to meet with her client and the revelation to the reader that someone is working against her. There is a mention of the threats she received just before discovering that her home was broken into and vandalized. Emmanuel’s arrival and assistance starts the dialogue between them about the case she is working on. Though Emmanuel is confident in his investigation, the points she makes raise some questions in his mind. As he and Pippa join forces in their quest, the person behind the attacks ramps up the efforts to stop her. Though the identity is revealed to the reader early on, it takes more work by Emmanuel and Pippa to suspect the truth. The tension increases the closer they get and the more desperate the killer becomes. The final confrontation had me glued to the pages until it was all over, and Pippa was safe.
There was also some progress made in the series story arc involving a deadly drug, a pyramid scheme, and an unscrupulous loan company. More people suffer serious side effects from the drug, including a couple more deaths, amplifying the need to find those responsible. Pippa joins her siblings at Colton Investigations in setting up a sting against the loan company. There are some intense moments as the trap is sprung and later as they bargain for information. I look forward to seeing how they use what they learn in future books.
In this one we get sparing buddies that gives us action from both sides. Detective Emmanuel and Pippa whom is a attorney they have us front row and center. The chemistry is like electricity but one thinks he has got it but events will tell a different story. The danger will come knocking and it has got our attention. Murder seems to be in charge with it will have us looking to see if they can put a stop to it. The mix in this one is superb.
Great story of an attorney who is on the side of right, even if it means overturning a conviction – Pippa and the cop who may have had it wrong, Emmanuel. He is a friend of Pippa’s brother and initially annoyed at even talking to her, so certain he had everything right!! That quickly changes as they get to know each other! The drama is well done with the mystery and the action is fast paced! This is a story that stands alone, but the other stories of the Colton’s certainly round it out!! Loved this story – (who needs sleep anyway??). Characters are strong and the story compelling!!
I received this book from the author for my honest review – and I honestly loved it!!!
High octane suspense! With the third book in the Colton 911: Grand Rapids series Regan Black throws her reader quickly into the heart of a showdown between headstrong lawyer Pippa Colton and the cop working on her high profile new case. The characters are easy to like, the danger around every corner theme keeps a readers attention and the happily ever after is sweetly satisfying. Looking forward to more in the series!
Pippa is strong and capable and not willing to remain quiet against injustice no matter the danger.
Emmanuel is an accomplished detective, but when Pippa begins to find clues that point in a direction he never suspected, he’s more than willing to help find the answers to make sure justice is served.
I recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who enjoys a close knit family each finding their happily ever afters as danger and intrigue flies out from behind every dark corner.
These Colton’s do find themselves in a pickle, don’t they?
Pippa is on the hunt for evidence that could end an innocent women’s incarceration. With her siblings at Colton Investigations, a pyramid scheme has ended in murder. She has the added bonus of looking into a case for her friend, whose mother is the Queen of Mean. Enter Det. Emmanuel Iglesias who’s been asked to keep an eye on Pippa by her brother. The danger isn’t far away and now these very different people need to work together to find the truth and stay alive.
This is very much enemies to lovers! Pippa and Emmanuel are very different people but with a similar sense of justice. I’d really recommend reading this series in order as it does help to keep everything in order. Great story, action-packed, and a pair of strong lead characters with great supporting characters.
A wonderful fast-paced story. Pippa Colton, a defense attorney, runs into roadblocks on her current case. The lead detective, Emmanuel Iglesias, turns his protective instincts to help Pippa, even though they are on the opposite side of the case. The two unite working on the case and personally. The characters are realistic and believable. I enjoyed this book and love this author.
Detective On Call is an interestingly paced, action-filled Romantic Suspense that will keep you engaged and on your toes throughout Pippa and Emmanuel’s romance. We’ve met them both earlier in this series but now they get to share the spotlight.
Pippa is an attorney who is passionate about her work, she also is part of the Colton Investigation group – so she’s no stranger to finding answers or intense, even dangerous situations. Right now she is challenging the guilty verdict of her friend’s mother who is a very mean, conceited, entitled woman who was charged and convicted of murdering her former lover. Elizabeth, her daughter, and Pippa are not convinced that Anna, mean as she is was truly capable of murder… a woman who would never, ever do her own dirty work, she would have hired someone to kill David before pulling the trigger herself. In order to overturn that verdict, Pippa must investigate the police’s handling of the case – and that means challenging the integrity of a family friend, her brother’s friend, and a man she finds attractive and intriguing.
Emmanuel firmly believes that the case he and his partner built against Anna is solid, that nothing was left undone, and that she is exactly where she belongs… behind bars in prison. Yet, he’s agreed to keep an eye on Pippa who has been receiving threats recently. He’ll do it for the friendship with her brother at first, but when the threats turn into attacks and the danger ratchets up even more things begin to change between Emmanuel and Pippa – and neither is certain what to do with that change.
I completely enjoyed myself here, the format of this story really worked well in keeping the tensions high yet giving the reader small clues that the main characters are unaware of – and those clues, and that involvement slowly increased chapter by chapter. The suspect became clear rather early on, even if Pippa and Emmanuel hadn’t picked up on the identity just yet. That slowly, meticulously unfolded before our eyes… what wasn’t there was the “why”. And not knowing that piece of information made the conclusion to the danger part of Detective On Call an edge of the seat type of Romantic Suspense for me. I was so caught up in this one that I didn’t want it to end. That doesn’t happen to me often, the story ends when the author says it does… but I did really want just a bit more for I didn’t want to leave that world. So, yeah, I had a blast with this one, no doubt at all.
I loved Emmanuel and Pippa together. Both stubborn beyond belief, yet they blended together so well that their differences only served to show them in a more positive light. Each would continue to fight for what they believed was right – and the other would never tear them down for that, they might not agree but the support and the affection between them were still there loud and clear. I like that type of couple who can agree to disagree without it ruining the relationship – and when one can admit freely that they missed something, that they were wrong without gloating on the other side.
I enjoyed myself in Detective On Call, and since I’m binge-reading to get caught up I know I’ll be diving back into this world again in a few hours. If you love a really good Romantic Suspense then you should be picking up not only this story but the entire series… it’s that good.
I own a Kindle edition of Detective On Call.
This one was my favorite of the series so far. I really liked the heroine a great deal. It is the first time I’ve read this author. After reading this one, I preordered the remaining books in the series.
This was a nice easy read of the continuing story of the Colton family. I liked the strong independent character of Pippa and the supportive nature of Emmanuel without taking away from his take charge persona.
3.5 stars
Regan never writes a bad book so I was excited to get this one. I loved it. Everything about it I loved > the plot, characters, the twists and turns. Highly recommend it. It was perfect to help me escape some from all that is awful going on in our world right now.
I enjoyed reading this book! Love the interacting between Piper and Emmanuel and what is happening between them. This story has a lot going on that kept me reading to find out what is happening and how it turns out. I recommend this book!!!!!
The Colton 911 series follows the Colton family and each book in the series is written by a different author and takes place in Grand Rapids, MI. Detective on Call is book 3 in the series but only the first one I’ve had a chance to read.
Pippa Colton knows her best friend’s mother is many things, but a murderer is not one of them. Anna’s been accused of murdering her lover and Pippa has taken on the case to prove her innocence. Re-investigating the entire case has put Pippa’s life in danger and brought Detective Emmanuel Iglesias to her her doorstep. As the threats intensify so does the attraction between Pippa and Emmanuel.
Detective on Call is an intense romantic suspense novel that brings together an unlikely couple – an attorney and the detective on the case the attorney is trying to bust wide open. They have insta-chemistry but neither want to accept the feelings. They are on opposite sides of the murder case; Pippa wants Anna freed and Emmanuel knows his investigation is rock-solid. The more Pippa digs into the case, the more danger finds its way to her doorstep. Forced together by Emmanuel’s best friend, who also happens to be Pippa’s brother, Pippa and Emmanuel find themselves slowly breaking down their walls.
I loved Detective on Call and the location. I live in Central Michigan so any book set in Michigan makes me happy. This books is well-written, has awesome characters, and a mystery that kept me on my toes. I enjoy the author’s writing style so everything I’ve read by Regan Black has been a hit with me.
Pippa is a strong, but stubborn character. She puts herself in danger for what she feels is the greater good. She’s a good person who wants nothing but justice for Anna, regardless of the cost and her sacrifices are noble. Emmanuel is a great detective, follows the law to the letter, and knows the case against Anna was solid. He is, however, open to discussion when Pippa brings forth insight and knowledge needing review.
I was provided a paperback of this book to read.
This is the 3th book in the Colton 911 Grand rapids series. Pippa is part of Colton Investigations together with her family. Pippa is defending her best friends mother and while investigating this case the danger begins. Detective Emmanuel Iglesias gets involved and tries to keep Pippa save. I really liked the plot and the suspense. The romance is great and this is another solid read from author Regan Black . I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion
An enjoyable, dynamic, and intense tale of riveting suspense and secret, ardent, sweep-you-off-your-feet-kind of romance.
The friction, chemistry, connection, attraction – whatever you want to call the sizzling – between Detective Emmanuel Iglesias and Pippa Colton is so well done; the secrecy, the escalation of emotions, the development of the suspense and how it mirrored into their relationship, I treasured every moment as I devoured the book.
I have not read the other books in the Colton 911 series yet that didn’t hinder the pleasure of my reading experience. The suspense is intriguing, bringing constant accelerating tension and potentially deadly moments to the pages. I liked how it was nearly the backdrop of the platform for Pippa and Emmanuel’s destinies to entwine, as in the middle of all the danger and mayhem their relationship was still the main focus. Thus the fact that the conclusion to the attacks towards Pippa was – what felt like – a bit an easy solution wasn’t a big deal to me.
A potent, compelling tale of love and family, law and order, justice and objectivity, that I read at one sitting cause I couldn’t put it down.
~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Detective On Call . This is a fantastic story . Pippa Colton is a stubborn Attorney . She is positive Anna Wentworth her rich nasty client is innocent . Anna was found guilty of is accused of murdering her ex boyfriend David Hicks . Detective Emmanuel Iglesias promised Pippas brother he will check up on her . Pippa has been getting threats and someone broke into her condo . Emmanuel steps in to help and investigate . Threats and attempts escalates so Emmanuel won’t leave her alone . Their attraction and feelings grow closer as they investigate whether Anna was set up and he did it .

Emmanuel and Pippa were wonderful together. I loved this story and had a very difficult time putting it down. This author knows how to put out the great reads. I can not wait for more.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Someone is trying to stop Pippa from investigating a murder, and possibly saving an innocent woman from jail. Can Emmanuel, the person who made the original arrest, protect her from harm as Pippa delves deeper into the mystery? You’ll be on the edge of your seat, waiting to find out.
Excellent Romantic Suspense. The mystery, the storyline, and the characters mix together well, and make this book well worth reading.
Colton 911: Detective on Call was another short trip to Grand Rapids, Michigan. This was one of the the Colton family that was full of action, romance and suspense.
Pippa Colton Attorney and Also part of Colton Investigation
Detective Emmanuel Iglesias on the GRPD in Michigan and loved his job proud of his job.
Anna Wentworth charged for a crime she didn’t commit.
Elisabeth Wentworth Anna’s daughter .
Pippa is hired to prove that Anna Wentworth isn’t a murder. Her daughter believes she didn’t do it and she was framed. Pippa was going to find out who did. Pippa is at the prison one day trying to see Anna and they wouldn’t allow her to be seen. So after spending all day at the prison she leave and heads home to find that she has a message written on her wall.
Detective Iglesias has made a promise to Griffin her older brother to keep an eye on her and be like a body guard so when she calls 911 he hears the call and goes to check in on her like her brother asks her to do. He checks the area around her house and lets the two officers who arrived on scene take over the call. He calls to have the locks changed and wants to make sure she is safe before he leaves and helps clean up the the mess. Then she gets attached the next night after the Emmanuel gives her a panic button to have. Elisabeth checks in with Pippa night and day everyday.
Things between them just get more interesting and suspenseful. This is one book that I had a hard time putting down but had to. This is one that Regan showed emotion and suspense in every turn of the page. She brought tears to my eyes and with book and Regan showed every character worked together and showed the true self and how they belonged in the book. I recommend this book because the suspense and the romance was shown if different ways.
