Was it a horrific accident or something far more disturbing?
I thought this book was an intriguing suspense, but I did not get any vibes that it was of the Christian genre so much.
I found the plot to move along for the most part relatively quickly, although I felt there were a few spots that were slower. I did enjoy the humor, with a touch of romance included. I would recommend this book to anyone who would enjoy a clean suspense novel. Tom Threadgill is a first-time author for me, and I have to say I would continue to read more by him in the future.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
I didn’t want to put this book down… couldn’t put it down. I absolutely adore Amara Alvarez and her relationships with her coworkers, friends, and her iguana! Now I want one. She is a heroine who made me laugh and one I could really relate to. I can think of a few words to describe this book: amazing, intriguing, mesmerizing. I want to buy up the entire backlist of my new favorite author.
Wow, a mystery thriller that pulled me in from page one. I had a hard time putting the book down and kept me up late turning the pages to find out what happened.
Three years ago, a collision between a fast-moving freight train and a school bus full of kids led to a devastation and grief on an unimaginable scale. Seventeen kids and three adults were killed, or were they? Detective Amara Alvarez was out enjoying her Saturday breakfast when it was disrupted by a husband and wife arguing over a text that she received from their son. One thing leads to another that leaves Amara wondering if the children may still be alive. With time running out, Amara has to convince herself and her co-workers that yes, the boy is alive and that she will do everything in her power to bring him and the other children home.
A clean mystery that was emotional, intense, mesmerizing, leaving you wondering what happened to the children. “Collision of Lies” was the first book that I read from the author Tom Threadgill and am looking forward to the next book in the Detective Amara Alvarez series.
I received a copy of the book from Revell Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions are my own.
Thrilling page turner, the first I’ve read of Mr. Threadgill’s and this author knows how to keep you turning pages well into the night–not to mention leave you carrying this story around with you even when you HAVE to put the book down.
The gripping plot yanked me into a twisting story that had me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed the female lead character and found her development authentic. Secondary characters enhanced the storyline with their unique personalities. The story was riveting and well written, like something ripped from a headline. The pacing is so quick that at about the 3/4 mark, the story got a little bogged down with the description/reasoning/explanation behind the action of the plot. It was like going 95mph to 35mph and I have to admit that I might’ve skimmed over some of the details that I didn’t care about to get to what I did care about–the battle, revelation of truth, and conclusion. Even with that jarring speed bump the story was really good and I’m looking forward to reading more books by Mr. Threadgill.
***I received a copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to give a positive review and all opinions expressed are my own. ***
Intense. Riveting. Emotional. Suspenseful. Addictive. Dark. Complex. This story has one shocking surprise after another. Truly a MUST for your TBR list!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
My first of Tom Threadgill’s books but not my last. He writes without vulgarity, gore, sex….and it’s still a great police solving crime drama. You don’t miss it.
Detective Alvarez is in property crimes and solves her cases but gets sucked into another case by being a good person wanting to help a grieving family. It’s exciting with twists and turns that you won’t see coming. Plenty of danger, suspense and intrigue.
I received an ARC but this is my honest review.
I am such a fan of Tom Threadgill. This book is amazing from page one. He has such a way of pulling you in with not only the suspense but with the love of his characters. He sure did have me on the edge of my seat with this one!! He is the kind of writer who gets you so involved with his characters that when the book ends you just want more!!!! A definite must read!!!
“‘Help me, Mom’. That’s all it said.”
Three words. From the woman’s dead son. Even a property crimes detective couldn’t completely ignore the feeling that there was more to the message than a simple coincidence. But what? And why?
Assuring the frantic parents that she would have “one of our tech guys take a look” at the phone, detective Amara Alvarez tried to put the bizarre incident out of her mind. End of story, except that it wasn’t. And the story that followed would take Amara and many of her co-workers deep into a world that they never knew existed. . . . all because of a tragic train wreck in Cotulla, Texas that killed seventeen children on a school bus.
This book is a journey, drawing its readers and characters onto a path that is both curious and intelligent; all while knowing that there is a last page, but definitely not knowing what will be written there.
I received this book from Baker Publishing through Interviews and Reviews.
Characters were real and also humorous
It was intriguing and fascinating. She’s a detective whose curiosity helps solve a closed case and her determination as well as bravery saves lives.
Great plot! Couldn’t put it down!
Great read!
A very different plot. Dedication to one’s beliefs and theories was a strong element of this book.
Great book! Story was interesting and climax unexpected!
It was something that could so easily happen – or even be happening – today, which made it so scary. Thankfully we have policemen and women who care enough to be alert and caring enough to look out for us and our children. I couldn’t put this book down until the end.
I loved this mystery set in my hometown of San Antonio. Wonderful San Antonio atmosphere, right down to the Mexican food! Relatable characters, and a ripping good mystery to boot. Tom Threadgill is now on my favorite authors list!
Excellent
This was a unique story that had me intrigued and kept my attention.
I’ve never read anything by Tom Threadgill, but now I’m his biggest fan. Collision of Lies is the novel we die hard suspense fans have been waiting for.
San Antonio police detective Amara Alvarez breaks up an arguing couple, only to find herself pulled into a three year old closed case, with nothing but a gut feeling and a random text message to fuel the investigation.
The cold case itself is twisted and complex. The suspense and mystery definitely kept me hooked and there was no lull in the action. The reader gets to tag along with Amara’s investigation and there are plenty of plot twist to keep readers guessing until the very end.
The characters are beyond quirky but it made them likable. Amara talks to her pet lizard, Larry, and works in property crimes, hoping for a chance on the homicide squad. Readers can really get behind her as she refuses to quit digging into a case that was deemed solved three years ago. Dr. Prichard, the ME, tells people the proper way to eat Tic-Tacs and always has a long-winded story to share. I still don’t know why they call Starsky “Starsky.”
The only downside to this book is that it ended with me wanting more. I can only hope for a sequel!
Overall Rating:
5 stars (I loved it, couldn’t put it down)
Suspense Rating:
5 stars (Non-stop edge-of-your-seat suspense from start to finish)

Amara Alvarez is a police detective in the burglary division of the San Antonio Property Crimes Division. She would like nothing better than to be moved over to homicide. She gets her chance when someone tells her their son did not die in a school bus accident that happened three years ago.
At first she has trouble believing it, then as she starts digging deeper odd things start showing up.
This is a suspenseful book. I am more used to reading high action type books. This book was more procedural. Even without the high action I didn’t want to put it down. I have never read any books by Tom Threadgill before. I will look for his books from now on. This book was sold by a Christian publisher. There were no religious talk in this book. There were no foul words or sex scenes at all. Very clean. I recommend this book to all mystery readers.
I was given this book by Revell Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
