Every book I’ve read by Toni Anderson has grabbed my attention and didn’t let go until the end. Her Cold Justice series is addictive. This is an intense, action-packed story that is filled with suspense, danger, a steamy romance, and gifts the reader with a gratifying ending! Anderson continues to be an auto-buy author for me.
Toni Anderson’s Cold Justice books are my gold standard for romantic suspense, and her Crossfire spinoffs take the series to the next level. This book is gut-wrenching and intense, with breakneck action and swoon-worthy romance. I loved every page.
Emotions and character powers from each page. Theoretically a page turner, but I had to put the book down occasionally because Darby’s story unsettled me, despite being not graphic.
Such a great story!
One of my favorite authors. She always delivers a great plot and unforgettable characters. Highly recommend it.
This was indeed an epic story. Not what I expected – I don’t mean the epic part, that one’s almost a given with Toni’s books – but the story itself. I was blown away. I love Robinson Crusoe and The Mysterious Island, the struggle of survival in a seemingly impossible situation, on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere nonetheless. And this book kind of reminded me of that feeling. After all they’ve been through, the constant danger of the terrorists finding them on that island, hanging above their heads like a Damocles’ sword. No means to escape or protect themselves. Barely time to catch a breath. Again so incredibly well written!! I can’t imagine how much work, how much research is put into one of Toni’s books. Quentin and Haley are wonderful characters. Their backgrounds are just heart breaking. Even if it is difficult to read, I am glad that Toni does not shy away from hard topics. It makes her characters more human and relatable and the stories so much richer. Both are so strong regardless of their pasts. They are not just survivors, they are fighters. I loved their passion, honesty and straight forwardness. I enjoyed learning about negotiation tactics and found it very funny that they seem to be very similar to the ones recommended when reasoning with toddlers – which I’m currently trying to master. 😛 That aside I also fell for Darby and Eban and secretly hope their story is next.
Colder Than Sin is a captivating read and is an adrenaline rush until the end.
The first part of the book brings to mind attacks like the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel attack in Mumbai in 2008. The book touches on delicate topics and highlights harsh realities when violence sweeps across the page. Toni Anderson handles the subject matter with wonderful sensitivity and compassion.
It’s a reminder that we can never take life for granted and that fate can help or hinder our path towards safety and happiness.
Common sense, decency, fighting spirits, and empathy are all building blocks for the protagonists. They are proactive, with an excellent aptitude for self-analysis—the hero and heroine are incredibly likable characters. I felt an emotional attachment to the characters in the novel and gobbled up this addictive story.
Colder Than Sin provides a wild, steamy, and tactile ride into the tangled unknown. Buckle up and enjoy the action and suspense!
If you’re looking for a book so full of suspense that you are kept on the edge of your chair, look no further. There is also plenty of romance.
Haley is a very independent woman who works in a male-dominated field but knows how to hold her own when dealing with those men. However, she gets shaken to her core by the events that happen at the end of the security conference – her encounter with Cecil Wenck, terrorists attacking the hotel, and then being kidnapped.
Quentin is a negotiator with the FBI and when terrorists attack the hotel, his first concern is to get Haley and him out of the hotel, then to try and save as many people as possible. But those skills are put to the test when they get taken by the terrorists. Plus he has to deal with his growing attraction to Haley.
All the while, Quentin is trying to figure out who is behind the terrorist attack, why was he targeted to be kept alive, and what was the reason behind the terrorist attack? There are several suspects that could be behind this and it was a journey getting to the answers. It was great to see Alex Parker involved in the book also. Highly recommend reading it.
I am fan of Toni Anderson and I believe I have every book she has had published. Book 2 in Crossfire can be read as a stand a lone, but its so well written you want to make sure you have all the little bits and pieces that start in book 1. Heads up for those who have triggers, this has violent scenes, sexual assault, murder. That being said, it is not over the top barring every detail, but it is succinct enough to cause disturbance for some individuals. I am in love with Quentin, his intelligence, his compassion, his humor, his strength, OMG give me this man! I like the strength in Haley as she deals with the arrogance, and asshat of men in a male dominant world. This was a wild action pact ride with terrorist, bombing, gunfire, hostage, escape, and steamy sex. There is depth, there is pain, there is love it is a truly a colossal mind numbing ride. Some awesome secondary characters and twist and turns. Batten down the hatches, find a corner and indulge. Thank you Toni Anderson for the arc! All thoughts and opinions are my own and were unsolicited.
Wow, this is a romantic suspense masterpiece. I love this series and this is one of its very best worth more than 5 stars, such quality writing and intense plot. I think anything with Alex involved will be outstanding but this takes the cake for me. Very well written as usual, the author had me so wrapped up in the terrorist attack that I forgot about a very important clue until it presented itself again, full circle. Quentin is one smart, sexy, compassionate, charismatic and protective agent. He takes his job very seriously and personally. I remember Haley from a previous book and she really should be an agent, wow she is a survivor, very independent, smart and pragmatic. Their common ground is not only the terrorist attack but they have some emotional baggage, her issue is very sensitive (please read author’s content advisory) both of their hearts are shielded in armor for realistically sad reasons. Two very strong-willed characters find themselves in a very dangerous situation, being desperate making them think, feel and chips at their armored hearts but what do they about it and how do they figure out that and survive for another day to work on it? I really love that this is another very detailed and well thought out story just when I thought it was over, I got another round. One of the best romantic suspense books I’ve read this year!!! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.
Quinten, an FBI Negotiator at a conference overseas, targeted. Hayley, a CEO of a security company are put together unexpectedly and they take advantage of their time, but it’s cut short and by what is so dark and very deadly. Jumping across a balcony was the first and least daring action that Hayley did over her time overseas. The action started non-stop after that. The plot was very intricate, and suspenseful and definitely a page turner. There was no softness in the characters to what they encountered. Add in Hayley and Eban and the other supporting cast of characters and you have one awesome story. I loved it. The ending I was not expecting whatsoever, totally threw me. I highly recommend Ms. Anderson’s books and this series. Can’t wait to read the next.
I received this advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is a deeply engrossing and suspenseful tale filled with heart-stopping acts of violence, some which may be triggering, plenty of drama, a traitorous act you won’t see coming, and passion so intense it’ll keep your pulse pounding. From the very beginning Quentin Savage and Haley Cramer are drawn together, and what starts out as a casual connection explodes into a fight for their lives. The characters, both good and bad, are so well depicted that you are drawn into their world from the very beginning and held captive (no pun intended) until the end. The storyline is intense and so gripping that it will take you on a journey you won’t soon forget. I highly recommend this very exciting and, at times, heart-wrenching love story.
This is the second book I’ve read in this series and they just keep getting better. I love the characters and the stories are entertaining and action-packed. I’m looking forward to reading more of her books. Very impressed with Toni Anderson and her skills.
Love this Author.
Excellent book!
Always like Toni Anderson’s books. Realistic characters, action, suspense, and a little love. All her books keep me glued to the story anxious for the outcome.
As with any romantic suspense, don’t expect a light fluffy read. This story included some scenes that may be difficult for some readers.
Colder Than Sin was a fast-paced, action-packed story, and I thought Quentin and Haley were a great team. My only problem with the story was that Haley didn’t seem like a co-owner of a private security firm. I realize she was thrust into some very difficult and terrifying situations, but I still would have expected her to be a little more badass. Don’t get me wrong, overall I did like her, she just didn’t seem like someone who would run a security firm. I’m guessing she’s more involved in the business end of the firm rather than the security.
I don’t want to provide any spoilers, so I’ll just say this – I really hope Eban is the focus of the next book!
This is the first book I’ve ever read by Toni Anderson and I LOVE her writing style. The scenes ran so fluidly to make this a fantabulous page-turner. Ms Anderson wields her knowledge about the FBI Negotiators so skilfully that it enhances the story. The characters were very real and I couldn’t rest until I knew they were safe. I definitely recommend reading ‘Colder Than Sin’. I’m off to read Darby O’Roarke’s story next!
This book was the best romantic suspense I think I’ve ever read. With more hang-on-to-your-seat twists and turns than a roller coaster ride, you won’t see the end coming, or multiple twists throughout the rest of the book either.
Chief of the FBI Crisis Negotiation unit, Quentin Savage, is glad his speech at the symposium on the small island in Indonesia is over. But he has no idea how his life, or lives of the other attendees, is about to change. Quentin will find himself using every negotiation strategy and technique he ever learned before the week is over.
Haley Cramer didn’t see the end of this symposium ending so horrifically but thankfully she has FBI agent Quentin Savage to help get them out of this nightmare. Yet, the danger and suspense just keep coming. And when all seems lost Haley and Quentin will find themselves unable to ignore the pull they feel for each other, especially if they have nothing else to live for.
Nail biting, action packed, edge of your seat suspense that will keep you up late guessing to the end.
Toni Anderson knows her stuff. I’ve already read some of her books and this one is just as *OMG*-superb than the other ones. Quentin and Haley get to know each other rather unplanned during their abduction. A powerful match made out of survival instinct. Can they be rescued, will they survive even if or when they get rescued and will Quentin aka FBI negotiator unit Chief be able to figure out, what the everloving-f*** happend at that symposium, that left hundreds of CEO’s dead? Great story that has everything it needs.
Perfectly paced, action packed and steamy! With a few cameos from some of my fave characters in this world (I’m looking at you Alex Parker!). Darby will break your heart and Eban will make you believe in good guys once more – I can’t wait to see more of them.
There are some triggers that you may want to know about: sexual assault, rape, and assault by a family member. As usual the author deals with tricky and emotional storylines with sensitivity and great care.
