Want to play a game? When research chemist Kiera Underwood receives a cryptic phone call about her twin brother, she tries to contact him to no avail. Her twin sense tingles, warning her that something is wrong. When he doesn’t return her call and his supervisor at Oceanic Labs claims he didn’t come into work, she heads to Cold Harbor. But when she arrives in town to find the door to her brother’s … find the door to her brother’s house ajar, she races to the lab to question his fellow employees.
Solve the puzzle and save your brother…
Kiera’s terrified when an attempt is made on her life. Then Blackwell Tactical operative Cooper Ashcroft delivers her second shock of the day. Someone killed the lab research supervisor and stole a deadly biotoxin. The main suspect? Her brother—and Blackwell Tactical has been hired to bring him in. If that wasn’t distressing enough, she’s suspected of colluding with him. She had nothing to do with the theft or murder, and despite the evidence staring her in the face, she knows that her brother is innocent of all charges. She sets out to prove it, putting her in the crosshairs of the killer. As Coop tries to protect her as well as solve the crime, he grapples with the possibility she’s telling the truth and someone has likely abducted her brother—perhaps killed him—and now Kiera’s life is in serious danger.

I enjoyed this story. The main character was a bit over-the-top with her “don’t tell me what to do” attitude, but otherwise, she was likable. All the characters were interesting, and the story was enjoyable.
I plan to read more books by Susan Sleeman.
This was another super fun read. Admittedly I liked Coop a lot better than Keira, but that may be partly because he was briefly in the first book of the series. Coop wasn’t perfect, but his flaws annoyed me less . Keira seemed a bit whiny and irrational at times, the irrational kind of surprised me with her being a scientist. But overall I really liked the characters and the mystery was great! I’m really looking forward to the next story in the series.
Okay, maybe because I have three siblings, but I have always loved books about siblings and found families. I think that underneath all the suspense and romance the Cold Harbor books showcases the strength and loyalty you can find from relying on your family. In this Cold Harbor book you see all of the characters that you’ve loved in the first book with one new one, Kiera.
Kiera is looking for her brother Kevin who is being accused of stealing a deadly toxin. Kiera does not believe that at all, but unfortunately, Cooper does. I really liked Kiera. She had enough spunk to fight with Cooper which he really needed, but she also complimented him with her gentleness. I didn’t like Cooper at first, but he really grew on me. Cooper was really tough, but he had a good reason. While his inability to trust Kiera was really frustrating, I was able to see his side of things. I honestly just wanted him to just get over himself and trust her, but it always takes forever for the characters to realize that.
I think that the book really kept you guessing which was frustrating and amazing. I really liked how real the characters felt and how quickly you got invested into them. I think that the romance was also super sweet. I loved seeing how Kiera and Cooper made each other better. I think that they both had a lot of issues that they needed to work through, but they both showed how love keeps trying. I would definitely recommend this book, and it was clean without any language or too intense scenes.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Cold Truth by Susan Sleeman
Cold Harbor Series Book Two
Former Army Ranger, Cooper “Coop” Ashcroft goes on facts. Not emotions. So even though the beautiful woman he’s brought back to the Blackwell Tactical compound seems like she really just wants to find her brother…the facts show that her brother—and possibly the woman herself—could be guilty of a theft of a dangerous substance.
Kiera Underwood may have grown up in need of nothing, but she still worked for what she has. Most of all her independence. She is finally out of the stifling protection of her mother and suddenly she’s under the protection of the bossy…but, oh so handsome Coop. Only…he doesn’t do relationships and he doesn’t believe she’s innocent.
The men and woman of Blackwell Tactical are tough, ready to protect, and will do what’s right. They have all been injured and can no longer work in the fields they loved; law enforcement or the military. Thanks to Gage Blackwell, they once again have jobs they love. Loving the series, the characters, and the secondary characters.
