Elzira also known as the Cold Queen and the cruel one. She lives up to her name. She was strong, stubborn and was willing to fight to her last breath. She was fierce and also could be very scary at times.
Ryke, I instantly liked him. He was kind of an asshole but I loved it he was also hilarious as well as arrogant and he was very demanding. But he had that quality of you just want know more. I love that one of his names is The Truth Seeker. It suits him and he definitely was The Truth Seeker throughout. He could see what many couldn’t and he saw the harm that was coming to Elzira before she even knew she was already being harmed. Protective Ryke is also the best Ryke.
So I have to say this book managed to deceive me with two characters. I won’t say which two because of spoilers (if you scroll down right to the end I’ll post the spoilers there. With loads of warning of course).
I could not figure out why she was dying and so weak, that took me by complete surprise and I did not expect it at all. (I will be going further into this in my spoiler section below.) I did like that Ryke was so interested and intrigued to find out what was wrong with the Queen and he instantly knew who was harming her. From the moment he laid eyes on Elzira he was protective over her.
Oooo I love the sexual tension between Ryke and Elzzira, it was tense and hot as hell between them. Ryke did a lot of teaching when it came to Elzira because bless her she had no idea what sex was. Her father had just told her that she’d bleed from there and one day it was where a baby would come from. So that’s all she knew at least until Ryke came along and told her exactly what it was. Ryke and Elzira certainly had fun with the sex they had. How Ryke teases her and worships over her, the sex scenes were written really well!
Elzira is powerful and scary as shit, there is a scene where she literally slices off someone’s hand with her ice blade and makes him throw it into the fire. I thought she was scary but damn when Ryke sees the man who she made handless who betrayed him. He became scary as shit as well burning him from the inside out. Both Elzira and Ryke belong together, fire and ice together as one. They were amazing together and they brought out the powerfulness in each other and especially for Ryke he did bring Elzira’s power out of her. She was powerful as hell as she went into battle with Ryke.
Wow the story of Ryke’s mum and Danser, I feel so bad for Danser and I love that he got his relief when Ryke killed his dad. His dad deserved it and I loved the bond that Danser and Ryke then built.
I loved this story, it was perfect. I was hooked from the beginning and fell in love with Ryke and Elzira’s story. The plot was amazing and kept me hooked I really cannot wait for the next one out of this collection.
Elzira & Ryke… Sigh…
“Allow me to ravish you, Cold Queen. It’s what I’m good at.”
I finished Cold Queen last month (I’m behind on my reviews) and haven’t stopped thinking about it since. That’s the sign of an amazing story–one that doesn’t leave you no matter the passing of time.
What I really loved about Cold Queen was the pacing and how much story is covered and exposed through the pages. It read like an epic tale, yet it didn’t take me a week to devour it. I’m truly in awe of the author’s ability to say so much in a single novel. The world-building was vast, the action lined the pages, and the chemistry between Elzira and Ryke was off the charts hot (and not just because of his King Bloodsun title).
I absolutely loved this story and can’t recommend it enough.
Once again K.Webster surprised me, Cold Queen is a fantasy story mixed with a dark romance. I can only say that I loved this fantasy story, as I had never read anything before I was surprised even though the plot was quickly revealed to readers I could understand where it was going so quickly. Even being a fantasy story I found it very hot. What I can say is that I really enjoyed it. I liked the characters and how they fit together. I wanted many more … but it was an anthology and the first story of the author thought it was all incredibly wonderful.
“So close to death, my queen.
You simply needed a dark king to bring you back to life. ”
Brings out the fangirl
I suppose my 1st and only moment this felt odd was the names of the characters but as I submerged into the story, everything came to drown me into this fantastical kingdom full of betrayal and the ultimate HEA.
Definitely LOVED this twisted retelling thou it did hold many personal touches from the author making me enjoy the excusion of actions much more as you feel where she poured her vision into the story.
K Webster smashes it again, this time with a dark retelling! I didn’t really know what to expect with this, but I knew it would be great. OK, so it doesn’t have the depth of a big fantasy novel or the slow burn… BUT, if you take it for what it is – a quick and steamy fantasy romance with an alpha, protective, dirty king and a queen who needs her man to help uncover her own strength – then it’s a winner for me!! Loved it!
When I heard sinister fairy tale, I was all in. I love retelling especially of the fairy tale variety and this book gave me what I wanted.
I mean who doesn’t want a smoking hot, strong and powerful man to ride in on his high horse and turn your world upside down?? I do!! But let’s not forget about the queen she is of the upmost bad a$$ery, she was so strong and definitely gave him a run for his money!
This book was a quick but deliciously wicked read that is a great addition to this collection!
I literally read this book in less than a day! I started it and couldn’t put it down. Another HOT HOT HOT read written by K Webster the Taboo Queen in my eyes! Ryke and Elzira are literally fire and ice brought together! Many secrets come out and things unfold thanks to Ryke and things in Elzira’s life begin to improve. The twists and turns in this book keep you on the edge and you literally have no idea what will happen next or what you will find out next. I highly recommend reading this book if you enjoy K Webster’s other taboo books.
WOW!!! Absolutely fantastic!!! Love this!!
I was enchanted the whole time reading this!!! I didn’t stop for one minute!
K Webster is brilliant and this story is absolutely amazing!!
Elzira and Ryke!!
When Ryke goes across the lands to seek a partnership and a bride his plans change unexpectedly when he finally meets Elzira the Cold Queen and realizes too quickly what’s going on in her own kingdom.
Elzira has become a Queen at an early age and lives every day making sure her palace and younger sister is protected at all cost. Feeling her powers weaken every day that goes on, she must portray she is strong and cannot shy away from her name The Cold Queen.
This book is absolutely fantastic what K Webster has done! It will leave you with a huge smile on your face and wanting more!
I just hope K turns this book into a series! It would be incredible!!!
I pre-ordered this book through Amazon because K Webster has become one of my favorite authors after reading Like Dragonflies. Of course, she did not disappoint in this retelling AT ALL, At first, I didn’t know what to think of Ryke and poor Elzira. However, I ended up loving Ryle and Elzira, what can I say but I was rooting for her and she kicked butt!!! What a great story!!!
K Webster gives us her take on a fairy tale and it will give you shivers. When Queen Elzira and King Ryke meet their worlds should hold their breath because they are a match made of fire and ice. Betrayal and lust never felt so good. A story of twists with a hot couple who were born to rule. When you have a King on our side your enemies better look out because there is nothing he wouldn’t do for his Queen.
Cold Queen by K Webster was I wonderful revelation. With characters like Elzira and Yanna, you’ll definitely know that this is an adult spinoff of Frozen. I loved the great world-building of this book; especially how they have taken homage to Frozen but created a whole new thing altogether.
As the second book of the Sinister collection, this definitely did not disappoint. It has all the makings of a great medieval fantasy novel with its court intrigues, ice and fire powers, and zombie-like creatures called the damned.
Elzira and Ryke are one great couple. I usually don’t take much liking to a retelling but this is one great exception. It doesn’t alienate readers who loved the movie, but it can still stand alone on its own. And that’s what makes K Webster’s writing excellent in this novel. There was a perfect balance of steamy romance and fantasy.
I’ve read the first two books of the Sinister Collection and now I can’t wait to read the rest!
For the most part when I think of Fairy Tales I think of Disney. Although I want to I have never actually read the originals. Cold Queen is K Webster’s dark romance take on Frozen. So while I am envisioning Elsa and Anna; K Webster completely blows my mind with Elzira, Yanna, and Ryke.
Elzira is the Cold Queen, who has lost her gift and is dying from an unknown illness that killed her mother. Yanna is her half sister who appears completely devoted to her sister. Ryke is king of the Volcs, with the power of fire. He comes to Elzira’s kingdom with the intention of wedding Yanna so that he may pass through Elzira’s kingdom to a war in the land beyond. Tempers aren’t the only things heating up between Elzira and Ryke during deliberations though.
I loved these characters. The way two powerful people bent and surrendered to each other. Learning that it was okay for one to take charge in some situations and step back behind the other in other situations. With incredible fight scenes and hot bedroom sessions, this is not the Frozen your children know and love, but definitely the Frozen adults will love.
Fantastic fun! The Cold Queen and the Dark King. The Truth Seeker vs. the Punisher. A match to the death or to the bed. If you know this author it’s to the bed and in trademark K. Webster that bed’s on fire! Between the Queen’s powers of ice and the King’s powers of fire there’s a lot of sizzle and steam as they burn up the bed and put out the fires. I loved the contrasting visuals between the two elements when Snowflake and Volc were going at it. There’s evil, treachery, danger, fights galore and lots of fighting between the Queen Whitestone and the King Bloodsun. A little Game of Thronesish (which I loved) with the bloody battles, deadly creatures, and a face off between two powerful rulers with special powers. The relationship between Elzira and Ryke evolves from hate to reluctant respect to fiery passion and it’s so sexy and funny at times. He’s a perfect panty-melting hero for the sick queen in need of help to be restored to her full powers and oh what formidable force she is when at full strength. A heroine to root for as she uses her icy powers to destroy the enemies. The ending was as expected and I didn’t see much room for a sequel but would love more of this fantasy world. There’s still the East and West to overthrow and a badass girl and those cute boys, so maybe. This is a terrific fantasy romance that’s a page turner and a quick, easy read. Loved it! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
You know who is Queen? K is Queen… This retelling of Frozen is the best thing since sliced bread, with a twist I would have never seen coming!
Fire, King Bloodsun, Ryke… He’s a man I’d be melting for. All alpha, domineering, and just real man. He is after the truth, and will burn anyone to ash who gets in his way.
Ice, Queen Whitestone, The Punisher of The Damned, Elzira… She is every inch of the Ice Queen, even when she is dying. Headstrong, loyal, and determined! She will protect what’s her till the end.
What I couldn’t get enough of with these two, is that both got to be the strong person without giving up who they were for the other. He was still the strong alpha, even while bringing her back, and she got to be the force to be reckoned with while still letting him take control at times. These opposites within each character balances out beautifully. Add in the intensity of the world that K has created around these characters, and you can’t help but to become transported to the land of Norta Iceland.
I bow to the Queen… Queen K. She has done it again. I love how I become so absorbed in each book she writes, that I look forward to when I can go back to it. If there was a magic where I could re-read books as if new to me, she would be on the top of my list.
You definitely won’t want to miss, the Cold Queen!
Oh wow, such a great story. I devoured this book, I just couldn’t put this down. I don’t normally read stories like this. I tend to stick to the same themes, but I always feel super comfortable when K Webster takes me out my comfort zone. She never disappoints, if anything she sparks an intrigue that opens me up for new things. This is why she is my go to author. She has proved over and over again that she is an amazing writer. She can literally write any type of story and knock it out the park. They are ALWAYS good!
This story was so different for me, but I enjoyed every single moment. I really wasn’t on planning to read this whole series, but now I’m hooked and want more of this dark twisted stories!
Cold Queen is about just that. A dark fairytale romance filled with twists. It gave me Frozen feels but an adult version.
We meet Elvira and Yanna, princesses o King Davven Whitestone. Davven and Plyrienne, the girls stepmother go to visit the Easta Waterways, Plyrienne’s hometown. Unfortunately, the King and his wife never return home having been killed by nomads.
Elvira becomes Queen and the Punisher of the Damned. She sets out to avenge her parents death by murdering everyone within her reach. King Bloodsun comes to Queen Elivira with a proposition.. He wants to marry Yanna to get access to Norta Layke where the Moral War awaits..
This book was so twisty and amazing. It had a Game of Thrones twisty feel which I loved. I highly recommend this book. I give it 5
5+ Diamonds to K Webster!
I’m convinced that K Webster can write ANYTHING and Cold Queen confirms it. This dark fantasy is the 2nd book in the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection and this series is 2 for 2 for me! Each of the books can be read as complete standalone.
I loved book 1, Venom, and now K Webster has followed it up with an equally vivid and splendid fantasy land story of a queen that is as hard and cold as the diamondblades she once easily shot from her hands. When King Ryke Bloodsun comes seeking passage to conquer unknown bordering lands, Queen Elzira soon finds that the King of Fire is going to stop at nothing to melt her Ice Cold heart!
This was such a great book!!! Elzira and Ryke whooooo were they insanely hot together!! I kinda figured out the plot before the ending but it still didn’t take away from the story. I love a story where both the H and h are strong characters. Elzira kicked some major butt with the help of Ryke basically bringing her back to life. Held my attention to the very end!!! Loved it!!!

The Cold Queen by K Webster
5 stars
The retelling of fairy tales has been hot for the last year but don’t think you’re going to get hearts and flowers from K Webster. This retelling seems loosely based on Frozen, loosely being the key word. This story of Queen Elzira the Ice Queen and King Ryke. Their story is dark, twisted and all things K. Webster, you’ll never look at Fairy Tales the same way again. Pick up this fast fun, twisted book you’ll not regret it.-Carolyn- Book Haven Book
Cold Queen is the second book in this Sinister Fairy Tale Collection by the author. Although a part of the collection of stories and I haven’t read the first book, this can be read as a standalone. As the name of the collection says, this is a dark, twisted re-telling of Frozen and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. It is no secret that I love everything this author writes since I started reading her other works and I wasn’t disappointed in this newest book.
I admit, at first I thought this will be a retelling of Snow White, you know with the references of snow in this book or Cinderella since there is the a matter of stepmother and sister, Yanna but as a I read on, I was like, nope, this is Frozen. So, the story follows when Elzira and Yanna was orphaned at a young age when their parents died on the way to their travels. As the oldest, she was crowned Queen immediately and given the vast responsibilities of being one for Norta Icelands and taking care of her sister. Through all the early years of her reign, she was a force to be reckoned with as she was able to use her gift as the weather maker but a few years later, her strength and power was waning.
When King Ryke Bloodsun of Souta Volcanoes came to her land to strike a deal by marrying Princess Yanna and therefore merging their powerful kingdom so he could go on a mission to Hidden Lands, Queen Elzira refuses. She felt that she will die soon and she wanted someone who will love her sister as she did, and she just knew that King Ryke will just use her sister. King Ryke couldn’t help but be intrigued by the fierce spirit of the almost-dying Cold Queen and continued to seek her attention. During this course, he began to be suspicious of the people around the queen and vowed to find the truth and as a result, helped her gain her powers and strength.
The story has the element of enemies-to-lovers, action packed with zombie-like nemesis, betrayals (this one really hurts! Ugh!) and a lot of steamy scenes and romance (whew!). The buildup of suspense was just right and I was sure of the culprit’s identity only to be proved wrong. Ugh! I wasn’t expecting that reveal. King Ryke is one intense alpha male but has a tender spot for his queen, and that my friend made him such as hot book boyfriend! This was an intense, suspenseful, steamy read and definitely recommends it to every romance lover out there. Can’t wait for another book from this collection!
