Absolutely 5’s I wish I could give it more. I loved this spinoff of Frozen in adult form so much. Kristy is one of my favorite authors and one that I don’t have to know what it’s about to one click it.
Elzira is the young cold queen who’s dying when Ryke shows up wanting peace or blood and sees what’s going on because they don’t call him the Truth Seeker for nothing he sets a plan in motion. What is that plan, you’ll just have to one click it to find out and you won’t be disappointed.
This is only book 2 in the Sinister Collection and both book’s were amazing stories I can’t wait to read the next in line because their only getting started.
Cold Queen
Wow holy hell yes and then sum!
This book was greatly written well.
Every page was a masterpiece.
I was so involved with Elzira & Ryke
I wanted to know how these two will end up. This Author has the ability to draw you in and take u on a wild ride another great book.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy and my opinion are my own.
Cold Queen was bloody brilliant!! I’m a huge fan of retellings and this story satisfied every craving I had. I think my daughters have made me watch Frozen more than a dozen times and from my first viewing, I always wanted it to be Elsa who found true love. I found Anna to be lame. Boring. Elsa was the ruler, the one with magic, the one who claimed my interest. She has the ability to manipulate ice and snow! K Webster gave me the story that I always wanted and I’m so in love with Elzira and Ryke!
What have you done to me, you wickedly handsome Volc?
When Ryke made his way to Elzira’s castle with his twenty thousand men, to negotiate an agreement to further his plan, he expected some kind of fight. He ended up waltzing in and finding a hot mess of lies. Inside the castle was a cold, vulnerable queen willing to do anything to protect her sister.
Her diamondblade crown sits proudly on her head and her black cape flaps behind her. She’s powerful and stronger than any other person I’ve met.
Meeting the cold queen should have been a piece of cake and turned into so much more. While he ran hot and she ran cold, they were a perfect mesh of elements. She may have been dying, but Ryke wasn’t going to make a thing like death stand in the way of what (or who) he wanted.
How he reduces me to a begging, trembling, aching mess is beyond me. If it were anyone else, I’d kill them. Not Ryke Bloodsun, King of the Volcs, Truth Seeker and fire maker. Bossy. Infuriating man. Breathtakingly beautiful.
Honestly, Cold Queen has become one of my favorite retellings yet. It was hot, evocative, the world building was stellar, the plot was engaging, and I can only hope that the author will do something like this again!
Cold Queen was absolutely kick ass and my first fairy tale EVER including childhood. And I couldn’t be happier losing my FT V card to this book and to K. Webster. The world she created was fantastical and eerie and felt like a fairy tale, a delicious taste of dark, sexy and wicked. I felt like I was reading a cross between Frozen and Game of Thrones and I loved every single word of it!
The Cold Queen is Elzira, Queen Whitestone, Ruler of the North Icelands, Commander of the Eyes of the White and The Punisher of the Damned. She is crowned at age 15, after the death of her father – the King and his wife. From there she must learn how to rule all by herself. The one thing Elzira has is her younger sister, Yanna, whom she practically raises and loves beyond anything.
Elzira is the queen of ice with her supernatural powers able to ever bring a chill and turn ice into a deadly weapon. She is the controller of cold. But 10 years later, while she has gained a reputation worthy of her titles and been dubbed the Cold or Cruel Queen, she now spends her days in her tower dying of a mysterious ailment. Her powers allude her now due to her weakness. Only Yanna looks after her while she slowly dies a little more each day.
Enter King Ryke Bloodsun, ruler of the Souta Volcanoes and the Truthseeker. He is her complete opposite. Where Elzira is ice, he literally is fire. Able to burn a man alive with his finger or heat up an entire castle. The Bloodsuns and the Whitestones have never been allies and the arrival of Ryke is not welcome. But Ryke has come with single minded purpose. He intends to marry the princess – Yanna, thereby making an allegiance between the two houses and forcing the cold queen into giving him access to the Hidden Lands past the Norta Layke. He longs to go and fight the fabled Moral War and he will do what he must to get what he wants including holding the queen and her sister hostage in their own castle. Ryke is one dominating, arrogant, sexy SOB but he’s up against a take no prisoner’s queen.
Elzira may be fading out and slowly dying but she will not give into Ryke or grant a union with Yanna. Their opinions of each other are initially set – she blames him and his army of Volcs for driving the Damned into her kingdom and he knows only of her reputation as the Cold Queen and a cruel woman. The battlefield has been set but in doing so they will discover a lot about each that changes perceptions.
Of course, everything is not what it seems. There is sabotage and secrets contained in the castle, enemies to the queen who go hidden and Ryke as a truth seeker finds himself drawn to the enigma of Elzira and how she contrasts from the picture he had in his mind. He also looks for the truth as to how such a strong queen is almost less then a wisp of a woman now, slipping away. And as said truth seeker, he will not stop until he has both the answers he seeks and his way with what he came for.
This was a fabulously constructed world! If fairy tales had been written like this when I was little then I probably would’ve been into them big time. K. Webster proves her versatility 100% and I wonder if there’s a story she couldn’t write. Cold Queen was my idea of a good time and for someone that hates fantasy, I absolutely ate this up and was an addict for each little morsel.
Ryke and Elzira make for not only one very steamy hot coupling, but man, combine the two forces and they are an unstoppable duo – a King and Queen made a thousand times stronger through their connection with one another and the combining of their powers.
Even though it’s based on fairy tales, I don’t want to give away any of the fun. So that’s it for me. It’s a relatively quick read with castle intrigue, battles and a war. Whether inside or on the battlefield it was all absolutely yummy and I could not have enjoyed it more!
My only regret is that I couldn’t stay in their kingdoms longer!!
Love reading the Cold Queen. Love how you can see another version of a fairy tale you have read or seen in the movies. It was an amazing and fantastic read since I love reading dark tales this one was perfect for me as was Ryke and Elzira too.
The fairy tale of the Snow Queen is already kinda dark, and then K Webster gets a hold on it, and boom, you get something really dark, intense, and freaking sexy.
Elzira, the queen of ice, is dying. Each day she’s getting worse and worse. Her sister is trying to heal her, but it isn’t working. Then comes Ryke, the king of fire, chasing a war. He wants to marry Elzira’s sister, but things don’t work out that way.
Wow. I mean, just wow. Elzira is fierce and cruel, when necessary. She’s protective and loyal to those she considers hers, which is basically her sister. Even as she’s dying, she does everything she can to protect her sister from Ryke. She’s stubborn AF, and got a lot of strength, even as she’s dying. I mean, I’m seriously impressed by her. She’s diamonds all the way down.
Ryke is determined. He knows what he wants, he’s going to get what he wants, no matter what he has to do. If that means keeping Elzira prisoner until he can marry her sister, then that’s what he’ll do. If that means taking over Elzira’s castle, then so be it. He’s also going to find out the truth of everything he can.
This book left me gasping and waiting to see what was going to happen next. I would really love to see more of these two characters. (less)
* Part of The Sinister Fairy Tales Collection
K. Webster brings a tale of a frozen queen to life. Elzira has been alone all her life except for a select few people she has trusted. When she finds a group of men coming to her castle, she finds herself letting them in. Ryke is the king of truth and fire. He is what Elzira has been waiting for but didn’t know it. Now that Elzira and Ryke are together, they can fight an enemy that has been lurking in the dark for far too long.
As always, K brings us a steamy fairytale that you can not put down. I love this story and how it flows. A must-read and five stars!
Helloooo…I didn’t even know what this book was about..but y’all…this cover alone had me intrigued!!!
I had to have it..begged for it!! Plus I’m a huge K. Webster stalker so gimmie Gimmie..lol
Such a beautiful cover K. Webster!!
Hmm. My advice is to go in blind…I swear while reading Cold Queen I could feel some GOT, Snow White and some other movie vibes in it..it was sooo freaking good…AND of course it was full of K. Webster’s brilliant, crazy ass..dirty mind all through the book which made me devour it whole!! Yes it was delicious! lol
Another 5 fan-damn-tastic stars my dear!!
What an amazing read! What a page turner! I read it in a one sitting, completely wrapped up in it right from the very start. Part of the #sinisterfairytalecollection but truly could be made into a series of books all it’s own. I would so be there for that, in a heartbeat! This world that K. Webster has created is so intriguing. Elzira is a powerful force and so captivating as a Queen. Ryke is so alpha and a force not to be messed with, a true King. The steam is on a level all it’s own and so intoxicating! I’m just in awe! Put this book at the top of your must read list!
A retelling of those fairytales we grew up with. The wicked Queen, the ruthless King. Two kingdoms.
And a tale that forges them together to become a formidable royal line.
It’s freaking awesome!

“I give myself to him in every way. My mouth, my body, my heart. I may regret this in the morning, but in this moment, I regret nothing.“
I really enjoyed this book. It was different. Lots of fire and ice!
Elizira is known as the the punisher. The cold queen & the weather maker. She has these great powers to protect her kingdom. But people she should have trusted were out to do her some harm. She let her guard down to the wrong people. And that was her mistake.
Ryke The fire king, the truth seeker knew. He knew right away something wasn’t right. He made it his mission to find out what was happening to the queen.
I loved how Ryke knew how to get under Elizira skin. He egged her on and brought her back to life. The spark was slowly coming back to her.
And Ryke loved how Elizira kept him on his toes. They were evenly match power wise. They both got off on telling each other how they would kill other people if they were to die.
Ryke was able to warm the cold queen and show her another side of herself she never thought she would experience.
“Our love is destructive.”
“Only for those who attempt to step between it.”
This was a good read. I’m glad I took a chance on it!

This was a quick read . A fairy tale of fire and ice . An enemies to lovers tale of a queen who was dying being saved by a strong king who was also a truth seeker.
I felt the story was shallow , for lack of a better word . That characters lacked depth and the story was predictable to me
Honestly I was done at about 80% but I kept reading just to see what else could be added . I think the story had a lot of potential but just missed the mark
For me .
This is not your kids’ animated movie!
I’ve read and loved a couple of K. Websters contemporary novels this year, and while I couldn’t make as strong a connection with the characters in this (very adult) fairy tale, it was a fast-paced and entertaining read. Recommended.
I had my fingers crossed that this would be an amazing story, and I’m so glad it exceeded my expectations! The twist on the classic was perfect! Ryke was the Truth Seeker and he supported Elzira and made her stronger for it. I love a strong alpha hero that makes his queen even stronger. Fantastic read!
First off, there is plenty of blood and gore in this book. Just a heads up. Second of all, while the wicked King is trying to take over the Queens Kingdom, he discovers her weakness and yet he doesn’t use it against her, showing us he may not be quite the villain he is made out to be. But don’t take his kindness for weakness. He will cut you without blinking an eye. This is a sorta enemies to lovers romance. He sets out to marry the Princess and kill the Queen in order to gain more control and power over some uncharted territories, but when he finally meets the Queen, he realizes his plans are about to change. They have a banter from the beginning. First it is with a fiery angry passion, but then it turns into more of a snarky banter, until it finally reaches the fun and flirty kind. This is a dark and sinister story (as you may have guessed.) There is loyalty and sacrifice. Of course there is betrayal as well. This is a quick and easy read. There is sexual content and plenty of violence, and due to this, this is suitable for mature readers (as is the majority of the books by this author, so that shouldn’t be a surprise.)

Absolutely loved this dark retelling of Frozen! There were some things that others might deem as triggers, but it was perfect for me. Characters were well developed, storyline moved at a good pace. I couldn’t put it down. I’m beginning to think this author could do a retelling of a dictionary or a menu and I would love it, I have yet to dislike any of her books. Another great addition to the Sinister Fairy Tales collection, can’t wait for the rest.
K. Webster always delivers. Always! Cold Queen is no different! I absolutely loved the dark spin on this beloved fairytale. Webster twists and turns the story making it something unique and spectacular.
We follow Elzira, a dying queen, who desperately wants to protect her sister from Ryke, the dark King, who is intent on marrying the younger of the two. Our heroine has no idea just how much power this king would be able to wield over her though. And our hero came searching for one thing only to find something infinitely better.
Wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, but I enjoyed it. Although the King was a bit of a how can I put this without it being flagged well he was a toss pot.
Great read, fast paced would recommend this book.
Fire and ice
I enjoyed this although it was a really quick read. It wasn’t quite as dark as I was expecting, however I did love Ryke and Elzira together. They were definitely fire and ice. An interesting retelling of Elsa and Anna and definitely recommended to those who enjoy a little bit of fantasy.
Words can’t quite explain this book without giving a lot of spoilers but this story had me hooked from page one and I was amazed with every turn of the page! One of my favorite K books!
