CIA Agent Patrick Killion is on a secret mission to hunt down the ruthless female assassin hired to kill the Vice President of the United States. The trail leads him to the Colombian rainforest and an earnest biologist, Audrey Lockhart, whose work on poison dart frogs gives her access to one of the deadliest substances on earth—the same substance used to murder the VP.
When Audrey is attacked by … attacked by the local drug cartel, Killion steps in and hustles her out of harm’s way, determined to find out what she knows. His interrogation skills falter somewhere between saving her life and nursing her back to health as he realizes she’s innocent, and he ends up falling for her. Audrey has a hard time overlooking the fact that Killion kidnapped her, but if she wants to get her life back and track down the bad guys, she has to trust him. Then someone changes the rules of their cat and mouse game and now they’re the ones being hunted—by a cold-blooded killer who is much closer than they think.

I enjoyed this book tremendously. The storyline was really spellbinding. Never one dull moment. The heroes were awesome. The action and drama had me guessing till the end. Thank you
My favorite in the series
I read book 1 and really liked it. I decided I should save the rest of the series and only read one occasionally. That was dumb. Life’s too short to save good books when you can read them now. So I binged, reading 9 books in 16 days. It was glorious. I especially enjoy how the main characters from book 1 become supporting characters in book 2, etc. It’s a great way to have some of the continuity of a sequel without the boredom of typical sequels.
Life interfered once or twice, but other than that, I never put one of these down until I finished it.
I am devouring this series like a fat kid on cake. Since the introduction of “the spook” I’ve been waiting for his book to pop up in the series and I really enjoyed the way this one played out. I loved that the heroine was a super smart biologist (we need more STEM rep for females in romance) and I loved that she pushed Killian at every turn. The twists were good and kept me turning pages. The sexy stuff was super steamy. My only complaint is the ending. No spoilers but I felt like they could’ve had a more satisfying HEA than what we got. Either way it’s a solid read and I’m moving on to the next in the series.
Couldn’t put it down! Another great book from Toni Anderson. Look forward to ready more!
Fifth in this series, just finished the audiobook narrated by Eric Dove. So far this whole series has been nail biting action and mayhem. The steam and romance between the main characters along with mystery makes this an excellent listen. Add this to you read and listen list, no disappointment here.
Always a good read from Toni.
It’s starts off so much different than where it ends up. The two main characters are forced together from the beginning and the relationship is always tense. Even when they let go and enjoy each others company tension is never far behind.
Great suspense and action packed!
I’ve read basically all the books in the “Cold in” series. Character’s are well written. Story’s are all basically stand alone, but there are characters that over lap. I didn’t start with the first book, but have since read them in order. They are all separate stories but there are some characters that overlap.
Enjoyed all of them so far.
The beginning was slow for me but once it got going it was a page-turner and I didn’t want to put it down. Loved the main characters and I would definitely recommend this book!
I love the romance and suspense together.
Very unexpected plot twists and character development
*Five Stars*
“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.” ― Pablo Neruda, 100 Love Sonnets
With each book I fall in love with this series more and more. When I think the book I’ve just read can’t top the next one it somehow just does. I adore and love Toni’s writing and characters. And, man her ideas and imagination… I’m speechless. I love that her characters are so real and have everyday problems which makes it easy to connect with them / to understand what they are going through.
So glad to discover that the fifth book in Cold Justice series, Cold In The Shadows , is Patrick Killion’s book. Since the moment I was introduced to him I wanted to know more about him and his background and why he is thinking the worst of himself.
Patrick Killion is CIA agent. He works mostly undercover missions. He is an interrogator and really good at his job. His whole world is his job and he never allows anyone to get close to him. Until he meets gorgeous scientist and biologist Audrey. She’s a rel game changer for him. He’s smart, intelligent, strategist, he can take on whichever persona is required of him, a survivor but he’s also vulnerable, has trust issues because of his job and he’s an alpha male.
Audrey Lockhart is a nerdy scientist and frog biologist. She is a survivor and a fighter. Her life hasn’t been easy. She suffered a lot and got some traumatic experiences. She has a sister who is a drug addict and she is constantly trying to help her. She is also smart, feisty and sassy. She holds her own and in my opinion she is a true match for Killion.
Killion and Audrey met in the less than perfect circumstances and situation. Their connection and chemistry exist from the moment they met. Also Killion is being so naturally protective of her from the start even though he didn’t want to admit it. CIA intelligence officer Patrick Killion has trailed down the suspects of VP’s murder to Audrey but she was wrongly accused and the battle for their lives begins. Killion is started to question everything He saved her life a couple of times which she is grateful for but the more they spend time together the more they develop feelings. There lies the problem. Killion believes he can’t let somebody into his heart because of his job. He believes Audrey is better off without him. I love his internal struggle. Can he be with her or will she let her go? On the other hand Audrey thinks someone like Killion could never love her or fall for her.
I loved their flirty banter and interaction. I loved how Audrey trusted Killion and how slowly they were falling for each other. Audrey makes Killion human and more in touch with his feelings and heart. Their relationship is tumultuous, passionate with a roller coaster of emotions and twists and turns.
I loved the elements of humor, quirkiness and Killion’s bad frog jokes. I loved how he just wanted to make Audrey laugh and how her laugh was his favorite music. Both Audrey and Killion are great characters with an amazing development.
Loved the ending. Wish I could have more of them. Such a special couple to me.
Thank you for another amazing story.
I know when I pick up a Justice Series it will be a page turner. All of Anderson’s characters have connections with her other books. It makes the reading of each book more enjoyable knowing when the hero needs info and help to survive they turn to them.
I am never disappointed in Toni Anderson
A very enjoyable thriller. I will be looking for more of Toni Anderson’s books.
Loved this book, exciting but not too violent
Couldn’t put it down…liked personalities of Audrey and Patrick.
Definitely a “Page Turner”! Full of action and twists.
